I can't believe I can't believe in hillside New Jersey the pioneer my role model in the west can this is a long awaited moment it's a pleasure to be here in your hometown hillside New Jersey it's actually beautiful there 360 it happens to be shu I'm impressed so finally finally Stephan says Give me the history. So it was something new. >> It was. Yeah. Lindon was very new. But eventually at one point at one point Nice. Y community and hillside. You know what? market. Grab it. Wow. Sure. Accepted. And uh the rest is history. Um, wow. You had your eyes on Lyndon. I guess wasn't something available or whatever. And you ended up like I feel like Lynon was like hillside. So Ken and Kim you know the vague paved the way they gave it that's what it seems like for me I hear this a lot lessons they feel like you know move out they're supporting it getting a lot of support from the so how did it go how did it go coming to Lindon And how was life? >> Hillside. >> Hill, sorry. Hillside. Yeah. Okay. >> Um, how it was green is it was uh tell us about it. >> So uh people might think Wow. But I just want to stop for a second. Some people think you're understand I know what it means to be a pioneer and I understand you and I look up to you for it. was is action and if you're not a naira to relate but this is a real that said I will make this work no matter what and no one will stop me and to go and make a decision such a decision it's I'm telling you is you want to choose but this is a pioneer that invested for the future So we obviously Right. No one knew, >> right? survive in I just can't imagine. >> Wow. So all over even to stay behind but at least you know people are status quo whatever that's a different discussion but right away and boom. Oh, bindle right away >> and more to come. >> That's true. We are here in one of the shs in Hillside and I actually got to meet Mendy Jay, famous singer and I didn't know that he's also coming from Brooklyn and he also has a story to share with us and Meny first of all nice to meet youm thank you so much so why don't you tell us how long do you live already in hillside I love the mic beautiful I'm not used to holding such mics but we're going to get used to Um, I moved here 3 years ago from uh from Brooklyn, Crown Heights, from the from the Kakim as they call it the uh you know you know Kronite is a beautiful place >> right but you know I was looking to to move out you know to find something that's more affordable when people asking me what you can't afford a house in Crown it's not about not affording it's about trying to find a place that makes sense. and also being able to afford a house that you could, you know, uh and today everybody knows in the world that we're living in today, properties in New York, in Brooklyn are very high. And for the young Kra that are just starting out in life and, you know, they're building up their their their their businesses, you know, they want to look for more of a uh affordable living and then eventually over time, you know, you go you go you start from small and you go from bigger and bigger and bigger, >> right? So, what would you say? What's the future New York? How do you look at it? What's what's what's going to happen over in New York City? >> I mean, right now, as everyone knows, we have a a mayor that's running for New York City that that's running for mayor in the Big Apple that wants to uh do a lot of uh, you know, I would call it communism. It's not, you know, the Big Apple is not meant for that. You know, I I think if and I and honestly, when I hear things that he says, I take it seriously. you know, it's not something that you just say, uh, pass the ketchup. It's serious stuff. He wants to freeze rent. He wants to tax, you know, he claims he wants to tax the white. But when he says the white, it means uh the Eden because most I think I would say 50% of Manhattan is is more than that. It's mostly Jewish people living there. >> Really? Manhattan there's a lot of nice amounts of living in Manhattan. >> I say 50% 40%. I'm not sure as active as that exact percentage, but I feel uh if people want to save themselves, I'm not telling you to run away for what you have in in New York, but it's something that should be uh a second thought of what taka you should do. I mean, I'm not telling people to run. You shouldn't run because some guy says crazy stuff, >> right? >> But it's something to consider. >> Open up your mind. >> Open up your mind. You know, uh listen, what you get outside Brooklyn is much bigger and and more roomier and you get more for your money when you live in New Jersey. I'm just saying from my perspective, Jersey, you get you get a lot more. You have the the kids can run around. You don't have to run upstate because you have it the summer because you have that space over here. >> But for some people that come from Brooklyn, they need that space and they want to go upstate. So, I have nothing against that, >> right? >> You know, but uh I personally feel that uh people have to live for themselves and not for others and think about what they could afford and what they can't afford. Nobody should, you know, hurt themselves for others to spend 1.9 million. If you could spend that, there's nothing to hate. But you have to really think about when you're buying a house, it's a big deal. It's it's you have a mortgage, you have you have other bills. It's there's a lot. There's a lot. And today, everything cost and and the bills, you know, you have taxes that are going up, you have tuition, you have a lot a lot of stuff. So >> we have to not overdo it to ourselves and keep keep it >> and what could you say just in one one minute the difference in your life your family since you did the move to Hillside. So, so I'll tell you, I I was looking for a year. I was I was looking for a house. I went to Lakewood. I went to Monty. >> I was opening up my uh options. >> I didn't know that. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was I was open my my options. I went to Lakewood when it was during COVID. You know, CO was not the best time, >> right? >> And um I was told, you know, look in Lakewood, the houses were going for very cheap, >> 650 for a massive property. But the problem was is that, you know, people were over bidding. You know, they're advertising say 50, but really they're asking for more money. >> Yeah. It was a bidding war. >> It was a bidding war. So why should I go? You know, I I said to myself, it's not going to happen. It's not going to happen. Let me let me look in the five towns. I look in the five towns. >> Nish nish. It was there was really no option over there. >> Miyard about Stony Point, which was not yet anything. But I said to go to a place where there's no there's no Yish community yet. You don't want to be the guinea pig, you know. >> So me and my wife decided, listen, you know, we have to take a break. It's too much, you know. It takes a lot out of you going to these places. >> So I was singing in a hotel pesak time. Yeah. And uh I was it was in um FF it was FFH. So it was upstate. Yeah. I'm from upstate. And I uh I met a young fellow. He tells me he lives in Hillside, New Jersey. I said, "What's Hillside? Where's Hillside?" He said it's a small stuttle of young kra that are moving in there. It's the houses are affordable, normal prices and over there there's no bidding war. It says it's not the I asked why why is that? Cuz like normally in every place there's a bidding war. He says because over here it's not a hockey. It's not one of those places where it's a hawk. You have two restaurants, one grocery store, one pizza shop. It's a very, you know, small community. But he says that the hillside community is not stomach a community. It's it's a gem of a community. Everyone is is no one's there to, you know, to outdo the other. Everyone's, you know, together. Everyone is, you know, living for them. They're living for themselves themselves. They're not living for others. >> And, you know, no one's trying to, you know, no one, put it this way, no one's trying to live up to the Jones over here. >> Be you and and be happy.
