In Parashat Shemini, we learn about kosher animals, fish, and birds—how to identify them and how they are prepared. While animals and birds require shechita and koshering, fish do not. The Rebbe explains that animals come from the earth and are more physical, so they need elevation through proper preparation and blessing. Fish, created from water, are naturally more connected to their source, symbolizing a more spiritual state, and therefore don’t require the same process. The message is clear: the more we connect ourselves to Hashem through Torah, prayer, and mitzvot, the more natural and effortless our spiritual growth becomes.
