I am continuing to continue the story of the to Greenland 60 years ago and we come to a shabas and I will share with you a lot of the details that I witnessed about the hisus of the reiton and the Reb actions before and after some of which I heard B and some I witnessed with my own eyes and I'll say the things which I saw myself I will tell you it will be Wen in unfortunately into the story because that's how it fits chronologically on Ed shabas I was phoned up by the editor of the New York Post the uh information we got on Friday afternoon is that you need to get uh permission from the Pentagon constantly non-stop literally the phone in the Amica we were outside 770 was ringing at that time and if I remember correctly RAB khov said the phone in his house was ringing he didn't answer it was ding the meanwhile the this is what I heard she had a stroke it seems she fell out of the bed I think it was about 5:00 in the morning and the carer didn't know what to do they came to 770 and there was a b who was there like all night label Brandel an institution in 770 big genius and he went to 130 for presidency if I remember this is what and rang the bell and informed what happened and then Rabbi Dr zelon became involved and he reported to the before Shak I believe and during the I remember he went over to the and asked what her mother's name was he asked for for and and um they smiled and um the first was about did go he went to the B to learn it's a whole beautiful I just remember clearly that now I think it was in the middle of that it would be about 2:00 2:15 one of the kids outside the kids that 8 n 10 year old kids would be playing out side 770 and maybe Po in here and there to the somebody came in and the is talking the kid came over and he said is here he didn't know where it was and somebody pointed me out I was I was standing near the back in those days I was able to hear much better than I than today anyway so um he said there's a police car here and they want to see you urgent so I said tell them that it's not respectful to walk out while the rabbi is talking I'll come out in 10 about 10 minutes they should wait and when they finished the I went out and the car had had left but they said to the kid to when I do come out they should say I should wait there until they come back in about 20 minutes which and they came back 5 10 minutes later and the policeman said I have an urg Urgent Message from the Pentagon Colonel Ox that's his name he has to speak to you urgently so I said I I'm I'm not allowed to use the phone on the Sabbath officer so he says all right then just write down the number and call them when the Sabbath when the Sabbath ends so I said officer I'm not allowed to write on the Sabbath so he gave me a paper from the car the car was at the curb he said here's the number and he could take it here I wrote it I written it out I said officer I'm not allowed to carry the paper into the building on the Sabbath so he was very he said this is the Pentagon you know what it means they're running after us uh what should I do so I said look I got a good memory I'll memorize the number and I'll call him this evening but po by the way I'm just digressing what happened at that moment uh in the evening I was in the hospital by the reiton and at some stage the came and that's where I got the quarter in order to make the phone call to the Pentagon which was closed already by the time I called anyway that's my m so in that the spoke about it gave a very very big cry people were wondering whether it was connected to anything happening 1418 a very big cry in the middle of one of the the spoke about the G ofen and at some stage he said there is a person or maybe a was fought inite that was me a person's going and I went up to the re and I had not spell mashka and I at that stage this was the clarification to me that it's going to happen till then we didn't know although in the morning when I came to 770 we spoke about the phone calls Rabbi krinsky told me I'm working for the rebba for 15 years this was 15 years into theas and every time we've had like a big block a very great difficulty like this thing has been very big came out of it so you should know big are going to come and so the Assumption was I'm going to go but we didn't know how and when but the never called me up gave me a bottle of maska and the England the S shabas down Eastern Parkway and I was with Island gold we came back an hour later let's say going towards 770 so it must be about 6 7:00 in the evening and suddenly we saw a a Lish Style guy in that those days there were thousands of from yeen in Crown Heights not laich laich was a a group major group but it wasn't by any means the majority so this was a and he's screaming I saw something I'll never see in my life I S getting into a car on chus so I went over to him I said what you crazy he said that went into an ambulance so what what happened was the ambulance came um they wouldn't go without cash they had to pay them I think was $200 which was a in those days and they couldn't take's mother and M Rasin of the fruit store he had a major like it was it was with he got into his store somehow and he pulled out of the cash register they had had to give cash D wasn't discredit card those things those days and the re said that this is all M by all these stories um that Leia Khan Ritson Le Khan fet should go with because she was very close probably because she was very close friends with the Reon and they went to the hospital now Usher and I heard that they went to the hospital and I don't remember how we found that which hospital the hospital was like in bet staris maybe a mile from 770 to cross the stre from a as we arrived there Rabbi Lael Groner was just walking out of the hospital and he says those are the words he said so we walked up to the ninth floor where the re was now what I heard this is again not what we saw is that the they were being Matel they were treating the rabbits and and trying to save her life the doctors and everybody had to go out you're not allowed to be there including the Reb went out and then the do the doctor saw that she has already passed away and they didn't know how to break the doctor came out of that [Music] room and said the words there's nothing more we can do for her and the re mind didn't accept it he so he suggested a number of of treatments for a stroke did you try this did you try that and I heard that the doctor waso that knew about these event God procedures that were really not known by most specialist doctors even yet and U so he said to the Reb it's too late when he they made it clear that you know that it happened but the re said the words G I think I heard this from and there were just a handful of people there at that time and they were saying to him and meanwhile the had does he have to eat the shab I'm not sure if it was a as well he didn't make and he said does he have to eat at at the hospital two older them with there with the which was and they called him and heard the said eat he said so the said is are you a rabbi and he said no so the told Rabbi Groner to go and ask a across the street from the hospital straight across the street was a Sho big sh and he went there to the rabbi and the rabbi said yes he has to eat and RAB gr walked up nine flights and told the the says you have to eat so the says does the also say that so they realized does not want to eat and um they were saying till them now come back to the time that we got in there this was probably shortly after then the room there were people in the room the room was a not a very large room the bed was perpendicular to the entrance that we came in and and the reiton was covered and the Reber was on the other side of the bed and there was a wind that was looking out the window he was in his coat and he turned around while we we we were saying till him and probably he was and his face looked like a like a lion like a red also very very very fiery they looked they took in the situation and then looked back at the window and then by that time little by little more and more people were coming and this little room suddenly became packed and he was like jostling and thing and the said not what's everybody pushing here and at some stage a minute or two later the re said Who is the H and Rabbi Jacobson Rabbi Isel Jacobson sent everybody then and the whole lot M sent everybody out of the hospital well together left the side of the room everyone no one can stay in the hospital just a few people were there I was out of the room but I didn't leave the hospital because I had to D in I had to see Rabbi krinsky I had to um um I was working really with Americans at that time for the from later on I learned in the that whole year that was quo started so I stayed outside in the in the in the lobby outside the the room and the waited until thead came as the Dinn till he hand over and uh at that stage Rabbi kinsky came out of the room and he told me that RAB told him so people say it's a known thing the people say that the said it very possible but I don't know that if it's even probable but RAB khov told Rabbi krinsky the words that he told me is that they should tell me that as far as I'm concerned I should not think of staying for the funeral I have a and I better get going and do it and um yeah so at some stage when the kadisha arrived the reab gave out instructions that he's going to with and he wants only a minion mum and that minion was exactly it was actually 10 plus was in a visiting room in the hospital and you walked into the room and it would just about fit those 11 people and we D my I was the I used to try every this was the last obviously because then was I was saying for my late mother and when we went into the room the opened up the window and looked up at the sky he was going to check which where's MRA from the sky from the stars or from the Moon I don't know from what but it was a cloudy night so he closed the window and told Rabbi krinsky is East as the hospital which direction is east and uh in that minion was obviously theim I guess Rabbi barel yic mayik myself you know and we and at the Min was When anybody was saying kades any day that the was say like for any time that was say not when he when was part of the minion and said Kadesh nobody else said Kadesh the himself said the Kadesh alone when he finished sh then everyone sat together now so the Reb said after I finished and the Reb said kades and he looked sort of like looked to me and waited for me to say kades which I did and the second I finished quickly turned and walked out of the room and did not wait for the mishas I had to go down stairs um at the uh um outside the hospital there was hundreds of people there and I said the last mishna and The KES now I went back to 770 that night and [Music] um to find out and there were about four or five telegrams including a telegram from senator jav with Senator King those were the two New York state senators saying things are being arranged or something they really I the big the and one was from the president's office but the big one was from the secretary of the Air Force that telegram was the it says this this telegram is your official document that you are requested it was all with big cover khov had said that Americans will pay for all travel food and and accommodation have deal this telegram said All Transport uh housing and mess mess is food is on the USAF and it's called a TDY a temporary Duty found out later on it was a telegram of about three pages must been a couple hundred words at least it's saying I have to uh report to Maguire Air Force Base tomorrow on Sunday and um all requirements you have clearance the only thing I need is a medical examination which I would get at the at the base and um so then I knew now I'm definitely I'm going and uh that now that night in 1418 president at some stage the came to the house this is M that the rebba asked said you have to make sure that nobody fidgets around here nobody touches anything that belongs to her and Rabbi mayik said that BSE that bar took everything out so the told him you're aware of what he took out and I'm aware of things that he didn't take out and I think I don't know who it was that took the want to someone to say he takes that no he's going to touch because everyone was saying till him there and um I think that RAB Jacobson took theas I'm not sure of that at some stage it was packed in that house just to say till him and at some stage in that apartment and at some stage I went myself as well and um I I I spoke with my teacher and my RAB yov asking him you know some advice what do I what you know what to do I'm going to be the only R thousands of miles around and um I'll continue this about this is about the vsh side of it what happened and I'll also say that the next morning I DED early a Minion for myself and then the re came into a minion which I was upstairs at and um he said five with very very strong uh weeping they said the kades after after after kill him and this time he did say after mishas as well and then I was given instructions that there's no L I went out and there were taxis taxis never come to 770 but there were taxis arriving the whole time people coming to be at the Leva coming from the airport probably I I took one of those taxes I had to go to uh to to Port Authority and from there I took a bus to muu Air Force Base and I that the is sing that I couldn't and I sent a telegram to the of and I got a letter for that on on and um yeah and um I I think I mentioned that the Reb said to take um 200 paper slippers from the mik to get it from the M lady now during the the Shiva the whole Shiva was two days from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon which was during that time many many dozens of besides came [Music] to but theba found time during those two days Rabbi krinsky told me that theba told him phone up the planetarium to find out what time the sun sets in Greenland and um that's one thing that they told him and the second thing is that Rabbi krinsky made a news service to send out to all Jewish newspapers Ang Jewish newspapers in the world and um used to be and here even during the added that he should right there about the non-leather shoes that a supply of non-leather shoes he RAB took with him a supply of non-leather shoes and I will continue this whole story maybe before Yip still about uh what happened on the trip there and there in Greenland itself two little clarifications on the voice note of yesterday about um it was the story of Greenland but this was specifically about what happened 60 years ago exactly and I said that some stories are but I heard from others and some I saw so one that I said from was that I heard from many people that there was this crowd in 1418 president at night saying till him and the the holy goof of the was there and the re was there for part of the time and he said he wants somebody to take me responsibility for her property and the different objects in the house shouldn't be tampered with or looked at and taken and Rabbi mayor hak said that it's been removed by and said I know of others things that were not and and I the question was who is the person that took responsibility Rabbi du of the great expounders of the to of uh told me that he heard that the person who undertook it was Rabbi zman dman and on his the and the accepted it and on the way out he Saw's son is and he said you help your father and the suggestion was that the re knew that is would be more with it to able to uh protect it properly the second um clarification is that I told a story which I saw with my own eyes when the at the hospital earlier when the C kadish arrived said he wants a Minion from Min and there were 10 people um I don't recall for sure whether it was 10 with the rebba or without I did count them at the time and uh the re walked in the small room and opposite the door was a window and the opened up the window and looked at the sky it was in order to see where East is probably and but it was cloudy so the re turned to Rabbi krinsky and said is east and I was always bowled over that how someone could look at the Sun and at the the moon and the stars and know which direction it is I guess so there's a story of Rabbi Simi was sent as a shadar on behalf of to in the 1920s in the years when the was still and the gave a letter asking to help him which he did and he also hosted him he stayed in his house and uh he he would call greet him to the bank he would tell him how much to give and he was a tremendous help for this of Rabbi Sim and at night they would sit on the porch the host and the guest Rabbi Sim and Rabbi leev would expound and say and and he speak you know at Great length and his son that would sit and just listen very carefully didn't didn't interfere at all and one night he was talking at very very great length and was just wondering you know how late is it but he didn't have watch so he asked but the way you know what time it is so told his son the can you tell him what time it what time it is and theba looked stood up looked at the Scribe gazed there for a short while and he said it's 10 and was wondering whether this is really any any how accurate this could be but it would not be polite to go check out on the clock right away so he waited 10 minutes then he said oh I have to be excused and he went out in order to look at the clock and he saw it said 20 2 in other words when the re said 10 after 2 it was SP on and then he came back to the porch and and laughed and he said now you believe me that the that he knows how to how to work it out
