Why do some people absorb other people's emotions like a sponge? You might say some stuff about boundaries. Boundaries don't help if you're the type of person who walks outside and is immediately feeling other people's energy. If you walk into a crowded room and you feel like you're surrounded by a hundred radios playing a hundred different stations. There are some people who just have an antenna that picks up all of the radio waves, all the humanity around them. You can't tell these people they need to have better boundaries. They need to be really judicious about when and where they appear and how frequently they make those appearances. There are a lot of sensitive people out there who are experiencing serious burnout and they haven't made the equation. They haven't put two and two together that the reason I'm completely drained is because I just went out to a social function and I was in a room with a bunch of humanity and that itself was very taxing on my system, but they don't realize that's what it was. So they just feel exhausted and they're not sure what it is. If you're a sensitive soul and you pick up on other people's energy, you do need way more alone time than the average person. And alone time doesn't just mean time where you don't have to socialize, it means time in actual solitude. I'm quite serious when I say this. Go find a forest, a forest preserve, a hike to the center of the forest where you cannot hear any human being's footsteps and just sit there for 15-20 minutes until you feel like yourself again.
