hey good day everybody welcome back to
uh beyond the seven live from jerusalem
with rabbi aaron david poston uh who's
been sharing uh with us the beautiful
work tomer devorah and today we've got
chapter two i so look forward to these
messages uh which are being done at the
rabbi's discretion uh i so am thankful
that he shines the light a torah out of
israel and all the all that he does
there with yebene in jerusalem a
beautiful beautiful organization that uh
puts out so much great content for uh
everybody to enjoy uh but i am enjoying
his selection here and there's so much
uh to learn so let's jump right in and
see how the rabbi's doing today
shalom rabbi poston so good to be with
you i missed you the last couple of
weeks but we're glad to be with you
today
shalom alec i'm dan and to all your
listeners
i'm so glad to be here with you today
we're going to continue in the tomer
devorah which
is the 13 attributes of mercy now it's
not the only time that the 13 attributes
of mercy are mentioned in will call
tanakh as we know and we're going to
talk about very fundamental concepts in
judaism anybody who among amongst the
righteous gentiles who are interested in
jewish wisdom
this is it right this is it so basically
i'll just tell you you have the 13
uh attributes of mercy that are in
exodus when god when moses asked god
show you show me your show me your glory
i want to know your ways
tanakh later on in the the prophets and
the in the writings is what we call
rabbinic judaism we would call an
explanation it's part of the oral torah
that explains what the five books are
about because the prophet's job is to
remind you of what you already know
they never come to reveal anything new
and therefore in michael chapter 7 by
the way i know you asked me last week
should have come to me in fact the book
is over my left shoulder real simple to
where to find out where in the verses it
is but i implore you to go to the
introduction we discussed that at length
why it is what it is by the way in the
13 attributes of mercy the first two
um traits is god's name nuke
twice hashem hashem
so it's described over there that's god
before the sin
and i am god i do not change i am the
same lord
who relate to you the same way after you
sin so understand that what we talked
about last week in the first trait was
that even the energy and the thoughts
right all of the energy that we used to
sin
it was hashem himself who not only gave
it to us but gives it to us in other
words it's a constant he
he didn't only create the world he is
recreating the world and therefore even
when we are sinning when we are doing
things that are inappropriate not right
that he is tolerant because he is
allowing
the energy that he is providing us with
with our ultimate free choice and what
we do with it and therefore
it's so hard when we sin
we are sinning with the energy that he
provides us which is a
to a certain sense it's a great disgrace
yet he tolerates that disgrace and we
talked about that last week so go back
into that to get an idea today it's
called after the sin right he bears the
sin
that's today's topic what does it mean
he bears the sin
so
it means that he's constantly creating
we'll put it this way we are the ones
that are creating the negative
consequences of our actions let me just
put it to you this way because we are
going to hopefully by the end we'll
quote the nephesh
he mentions in this chapter it's um
it's in the first gateway chapter 12 he
titles it
physical action
generates our future world experience
when i say future world experience it's
about the world to come so what we do
here all deeds matter
so there are going to be consequences
and those consequences god is also
providing the energy for and that's what
we're that's what it means that he's
bearing us in
so it's like this is heavy duty stuff
here
again one of the ideas behind this is
that we are supposed to emulate god we
were created in his image
from the ground we are adam and we were
created from the adam
and adam
it's like a
a combination of the aleph which
means um
god allah means one and therefore it
represents god even the aleph itself is
made up of above with two years which
means it's the gematria of 26 which is
the gematria of god's own name
and dome means similar we are aleph
domet we are similar to god he created
us in his image
in his likeness and um and whatnot okay
so this attribute the
tomi devorah begins by telling us this
is greater than the one before he raised
from whatever was previously stated
and that is
this if you understand what i'm about to
tell you and translate it's like heavy
duty stuff
a man does not sin it's a double
negative
without creating
a destructive angel
everything we do and this is the
negative obviously when we and he's
going to explain it as a byproduct sure
when we
do a mitzvah
we do a positive act
so we're creating what we're going to
call an advocate some kind of
spiritual energy
that will
escort us through life
and it will shield us we'll see from
certain consequences
and unfortunately when we sin
though we create negative energies we'll
call a destructive angel
and that's really what we're discussing
here at this moment when he says yivra
mashris
and then we're going to give lots of
proofs a lot of text proofs um we're
going to go through a lot of texts
so the first text we're going to go
through is in perky i vote
chapter 4
mishna 11
and i just have to find all my notes
because here it is
i don't know how much bogged down i
should get into this um maybe we'll read
it in a
superficial fashion and then we'll go
deep
so it starts like this
um
rebbe eliezer the son of yaakov i'm only
going to quote what he says because
there's another uh rabbi that's
part of this mishna i only want to quote
him rabi liezer the son of yaakov would
say
so revealed
if one performs
a mitzvah
he says
which means performing doing
the word kona
means you acquire acquire but we'll see
but we'll see
it means to create
god is our conan
god is actually our creator
um
we might as well do this right now go to
proverbs 8 22
it says
hashem made me at the beginning of his
way this is the torah speaking
uh through king solomon
meaning god made me wisdom torah at the
beginning of his way before his deeds of
yore so in other words before god even
created the world he he looked into the
torah and created the world he created
the torah before
or whatever that means he created the
torah um it says over here in hebrew
hashem
kanani
he acquired me that's really the word
meaning acquire means made
created
okay
so
let me just see if there's any comment
here that i wanted to show you
is verse 22
yeah
serves as a blueprint of creation
okay so that we know
okay
now so the word kona
when we
do one mitzvah we actually are creating
in in the the perky office goes on and
says
is
a advocate
so an interesting uh hebrew i would just
say it's like this
it's amalek
yoshaar
it means someone who's going to come to
your defense now what does that mean we
go to heaven
and we have a
judgment so there are these the energies
that you've created we'll call them
angels
and
the the the way it's spoken about is as
if the angel himself says
so and so created me standing right
there he's like this guy created me now
that's great because that's going to be
you know to your merit right you did a
mitzvah
and you're going to have this
advocate on your side and that's going
to be very good
okay so what about the other side oh
yeah
when we
are
violating the torah when we
uh transgress or even do
you know a sin outright
with our hands so to speak
so then it says you're like this
if one transgresses a single sin
uh he's kinda low again coming there low
he actually creates
kategor echad now that would be a
prosecuting angel so you would think
these angels are speaking up on well
either for your behalf or against your
behalf i i'm not so sure they actually
speak i'm not i'm not saying i doubt
that they speak but but it's a witness a
witness right against you
i personally think this is my i didn't
get this out of the blue i mean this is
what hazal do talk about
maybe not everyone agrees with this idea
the very fact that they're standing
there in the courtroom
and whether they have a badge you know
they're representing a sin
however they're recognized by god he
knows they're standing there he doesn't
need the angel to say word the very fact
that he's present or that energy is
present hashem knows
and that is your prosecuting um you know
i'm not going to say advocate whatever
you want to call it
the prosecuting attorney is standing
there doesn't have to say a word the
fact that he's there alone
is quite a statement may i say
and then it goes on it says truva masim
tovim now if you go ahead and you do
chuva repent
and
keep this
in tovin
this will be a shield
uh kit
the word trisem we have on our windows
here in israel trees is like a shield
right it's like a storm window a storm i
don't know not a window it's the thing
that covers the window and it's called a
tree seam and this is what you would go
out and battle you would carry a shield
and that's what trisemar
this would guard you against peronios
peronios literally means
punishment or let's say negative
consequence is going to guard you
against negative consequences
i want to go into this
i don't know let's continue with the
with the
with the text
of the second attribute the second meter
but i do want to say that
truva alone may not be enough that's
what that's what it's a true and massive
so there are different types of sins
that require
certain things to happen
so the more severe sins might require
uh might require death it might require
um
we call usureem harsher
for in order for to atone
some require only truva
so in order to
let's say nullify the negative
consequences it's helpful to have
truva obviously it's necessary as well
as masimotovium together
bazrat hashem that would help shield off
stay off any kind of negative
consequences but basically the point
here that he's making is
that when we
sin
we're creating i'm gonna say we're
creating our own punishment
we're creating our own the consequences
and the consequences
exist
again because god allows him to exist he
could
just you know what do you call
extinguish your life right he's not
interested in that he's actually he
loves you and he wants you to do chuva
and he wants to see you get on the right
path and therefore many of the signs we
call them perennials many of the the
punishments that come our way are in
order to arouse us and wake us up to get
back on the right path but in the
meantime just keep in mind he doesn't
snuff us out
he's bearing the sin he's allowing the
person to continue perhaps
sinning until they wake up themselves
and
overcome and do the truth and the masim
toving
so
he
the the the ramak places this it's like
a story line
that what happens is that this
prosecutor stands before karish baruch
who and he says
plony asani
that the the the actual um
angel that you created stands before god
and says you know that person created me
now we already know from last week we
said nothing can exist in the world
unless
it is sustained by the life force that
hashem provides
yemen
it's god's
influence on this world that allows
anything and everything to exist
and this
is this destructive angel
hurray hamas
it's actually standing before god
now the question is right how is this
being sustained how is this negative
energy that you and i and everyone else
in this world because nobody is so
righteous that doesn't sin how is that
negative energy even existing
obviously it's hashem
it would be fair for hashem to say now
this is
logical logical conclusion would be
that god could just say to him
i'm not going to
supply a life force for such a
destructive force
you know what go by the person that
created you via parnes me menu and get
any kind of life force from him you know
what that would do that would totally
destroy the person
so hashem kind of makes the separation
the
well if god would say that go take the
life force on the person that would be
it just keep in mind i don't know if
they mentioned this before but we
believe
we know
that what we call the yetzer this evil
inclination that we have
is the same as what we call the satan or
satan in english
and it's also the same the very same as
the mala hamadas the angel of death it's
all the same so of course it would make
sense that if he wanted to then let's
say survive if god cut him off he would
have to take your life because that's
where he would get his energy from
so that's what hashem could say
oh
either you know totally take his soul or
cut off his soul or give him whatever
punishment you think is appropriate
until the destructive angel is annoyed
because the destructive angel wants his
vengeance i mean this is you you created
him
the person created him and uh he wants
his uh his due but you know hashem
doesn't do that hashem doesn't say to
that destructive angel yeah go suck the
life out of this person
god doesn't do this ella what does he do
and i would say drumroll please at this
point he's nice say this
he's going to bear
and endure the sin pretty much like we
spoke about last week
just as he sustains the entire world
komosuzana olam kulo just as hashem
sustains the entire world zona mcfarney
says
he's going to also sustain the negative
energies that we created unbelievable
take place go ahead you have a question
or a comment
okay
until one of three things so in other
words god is keeping the masjids alive
that there's negative energy alive that
we created until one of three things
happened three he's given you know we
have three choice
oh yeshu
the first option is that the person
repent
and
the the
the vat
so then what would happen would be that
the angel this negative energy would be
totally destroyed through our repentance
so we can
it's true we made it we created it but
we have the ability to destroy that
negative energy that we created through
chuva
amazing thank you god
or
oh
you should said it be a surim um
or hashem could
what's the word he cannot know it
meaning this negative force
through our suffering or even our death
which is
possible and it will happen by the end
of our life anyway at some point we die
or the sinner goes to gerham and repays
his death oh yeah
so obviously that also
most likely happens to most of us by the
way in judaism gehenna
is no longer than 12 months i don't mean
to belittle it it's not forever but it's
it's it's usually not forever and it's
probably very painful
it's probably excruciating but it is
limited in time and it could be a minute
it could it could be you don't even have
to go through it could be the suffering
you'll experience in this world
to the two of them i see whatever it is
you could do to
already and know this negative the
negative consequences you might have to
pay for that was like the first of the
three or the last of the three is going
through we call
a
purification process
um
yes
yeah before we go to uh
uh forever
now as proof to these ideas he brings
down a conversation that cain kaine will
call him cayenne
and known as cain in the bible in
genesis chapter 4
verse 13.
so kind says
to god
is my
sin
too weighty
to bear
so to understand what this whole
question is about
um
it's i have here a midrash tantrum
i think part of this we should read
i'm not sure what part of it okay let's
start from the beginning and get through
till the end
uh they're up there upon cain cried out
oh lord of the universe
do you have informers who denounced men
to you remember because he was like
god's asking questions my father and
mother are the only living human beings
on earth and they don't even know that i
killed this guy you know my brother how
do you know right because god asks you
know where's your brother right who
abides in heaven no in other words
nobody knows
how do you know
so the holy one
blessed be answered you are a fool i
mean i bear i created the entire world
i have made and i will bear this in
isaiah 46 4.
i will carry and i will deliver hashem
created the whole world what do you mean
a cayenne is wondering how how does god
know
forthwith then cain cried out okay so
great hashem you created the entire
world yet what my sin you're unable to
bear
and in genesis 14 when he says my sin is
greater than i can bear
meaning since you have confessed and
repented god says to him go into exile
so it said that cain went out from the
presence of the lord and dwelled in the
land of node
now whenever he wandered the earth
whenever he wherever he wandered the
earth would quake beneath his feet the
animals and the beasts would tremble in
fright and they would inquire of each
other what is this
and they would whisper to each other he
is cain who murdered his brother abel
the holy one blessed be he has decreed
concerning him
a fugitive and a wanderer you shall be
then they would say to each other
meaning the animals let us devour him
and they would gather together to attack
but as they approached tears would well
up in his eyes and he would cry out
and this is um basis from psalms 139
7 through 10.
whither shall i go from thy spirit or
whither shall i free from my presence if
i send up to heaven thou art there and
if i make my bed in the netherworld
behold thou art there
and if i take the wings of morning
and dwell in the utmost part of the sea
even there would thy hand lead me and
thy right hand hold me hashem is
everywhere there's no escape
and so what does he mean when he says
this idea
um and i have here in isaiah 46
well i think we kind of read it but it's
very interesting anyway just the hebrew
when isaiah it's 46 verse the end of
verse 4
i will carry
i have made and i will bear and i will
carry and deliver
it's
um
right with the first part until my and
until old age i am the same and until
you turn gray
i'll savor an esbol god says i anees
ball
i will carry ani a sity i'm the one who
made
vani esse and i will bear
anees
the mlate
so then not only will i
i guess it like as
have lenut i will have tolerance but i
will also save
right i'm late i will also
sing
okay so hashem is very patient he is
allowing these negative consequences
that we created to continue to exist
until we do chuva okay and until
if we do my symptom we can spare
ourselves from great pains but sometimes
pains themselves are part of
now let's continue because basically we
just said that what cayenne said was is
my sin to wait a bear
the sages explained his question
meaning what we just said
kind says to god
well if you bear the entire world you
sustain and support the head the the
entire world is my sin so heavy that you
cannot bear it
meaning to support the destructive angel
until i do truth and rectify what i did
this is the clarity that yes this is
what god does he supports the
destructive
consequences of what we did and
sometimes they will continue to get more
destructive
but nevertheless he um
as we'll now explain
this attribute involves a great degree
of forbearance what's forbearance
patience and restraint
on god's hand god's
he's doing his own self-control and his
own tolerance
remember we're supposed to imitate him
how do we do this right when people sin
against us people treat us
unfairly i just want to make sure we
we're not talking about abusers right
and and and what that there's no excuse
for them
we're not you you know we have other
misses don't stand by your brother's
blood so there's going to be times where
you are going to have to stand up and do
something but we should emulate god
and know when to expose evil we're
talking about for those abusers so don't
think this is a free pass
um and we're not making ourselves total
schmattas and what do you call like a
doormat a doormat
okay
but what does hashem do he patiently
supports and sustains the evil creation
that the sinner made
until he does chuva
i just want to say that in hebrew
um is it
um
hard to find the hebrew across from the
english here
um here it is
there's a great amount of forbearance
that um
hashem is
very patient
he actually sustains and supplies
briarah this evil creation that we
created
that the sinner created
hashem is so patient
so even after the sin he's continuing
the same patience as he had before the
sin
you mow the autumn so what should a
person learn from this
kamatsarikshiya
how patient we should be
i mean if we just meditate on that think
about that how impatient we are
at least i'm talking from myself and how
how patient hashem is with us and with
other sinners
lispo olgaro
that we will end up hopefully
in having tolerance to endure the burden
of our fellow man and the evil that he
does
whether to us or to others
for even while his evil
that he perpetrated against him still
stands before his eyes he should be
patient with the offender
until
who usable odd yitaken khadero until the
person who sinned against you fixes
himself i mean we can pray for them we
could
i don't know hint to them we could do a
lot of things
you know rebuke has to be done out of
love so you know how do we give the
proper rebuke
um until the person repairs the damage
that he caused
where until it disappears on its own
or a similar remedy occurs ukiyotigo
anything similar to that
um that's the paragraph that we're
what are we we're half hour in we're
still going to discuss many of these
ideas
so
in terms of the attribute itself a
person might forgive an insult or injury
done against the person
as we discussed in the previous chapter
and but the damage still exists
waiting to be repaired
so when the guilty party does not repair
the harm the victim controls his anger
meaning we will control our anger and
bear the damage until it is repaired
and you awaken hashem's attitude
attribute this is the key every time we
follow one of these attributes we awaken
it from above and cause it to become
even greater in the world
meaning hashem's mercy you awaken
hashem's attribute of mercy
expressed by this idea that he bears the
sin
and you bring that element of mercy into
the world
so when people quietly and patiently
bear the damages caused by others by us
imitating god
god then repays
them in kind meaning us
his attribute of he bears sin is then
awakened through which he bears the sins
of the jewish people although the damage
caused by their sin still exists don't
think it doesn't exist in fact it's
still in creation because he allows it
to be in creation but he's allowing them
time
patience
to do true and therefore repair the
damage
this is not at all like any other
religion right this is
so metaphysical this is how we think of
our lives as jews and those who want to
and i want to just stress this again
there are seven
major categories of laws that the no
heights have to follow obligated to
follow but beyond that it's called
beyond the seven
all logical misses
you're obligated to follow
and all
ethical concepts
yes and you gentlemen uh you guys make
everything so logical and so we tend to
we tend to feel we gotta we gotta do
more and uh yeah
thank you
um there are some interesting um
so jeremiah
tunan theme
let's see
this idea just to drive it home that we
cause
the consequences to come into the world
and hashem
allows them to keep coming
but they're for our benefit
so if you want to read it
jeremiah
come on come on jeremiah
chapter 2 verse 19
but one second rabbi i'm sorry my mouse
is funky so
uh 19 says your evil will chastise you
and your backslidings will repeal
reprove you and you shall know and see
that your forsaking the lord your god is
evil and bitter and fear of me was not
upon you says the lord god of hosts
so think about what it says your evil
will chastise you what you created
is part of the chastisement
says it clearly your evil will chastise
you
and your backslidings right we created
through sin
and inertia
that's called the backslidings that
itself will reprove you
so in the rashi
eventually your evil will bring
suffering upon you
clear as day everyone know how do you
how can you argue that nope
but this idea
will reprove you it's an expression of
the evil that you created by sinning
is supposed to wake you up and get you
back on the right path so hashem is
allowing it to happen he's bearing the
sin
he's allowing not just the sin to happen
which that we already talked about last
week but the consequences these negative
evil consequences
he's bearing the sin he's tolerant and
he's allowing the consequences to
continue
until hopefully you you you wake up
right
in proverbs 13 21
just as another idea
proverbs 13
proverbs 13 21
reads evil will pursue the sinners but
righteousness he will pay a good reward
so
evil will pursue the sinners
the evil that we created
that hashem is
giving a life force
will
continue to exist it will pursue the
sinner
look what it says in rashi as for a
wicked man his wickedness pursues him to
his destruction
obviously it could have snuck you out
immediately but there is patience
because god wants you to do chuva he's
more interested in doing shiva
okay
life teaches this stuff and you don't
want to go through suffering you don't
want to go through
destruction yeah
now i don't think i really um what's the
word i didn't um
hit it on the card i didn't know i have
here in front of me the uh the nefer
shakayam i mentioned already it's the
first gateway chapter 12. it's titled
physical action generates our future
world experience
so this is very couplistic and mystical
i don't want to get caught
um and i don't want to stay in it too
much i want to superficially go over
certain ideas here
um
king david said
in psalms 33 15.
okay
psalms
33 15.
33 15 reads he who forms their hearts
together who understands all their deeds
okay now
it could have said
in hebrew right it says hayotsu yahad
libam
he gathered together
he fashions together all their hearts
amazing it could have said amazing
he understands all their actions
he understands all their deeds but it
doesn't say it says
he understands towards
all their deeds
hashem understands
the consequences of our actions
and he's allowing them to exist and he
gives them energy to exist
that's what the word l is doing there
and that introduced us to this
nephistrakaim idea
i'm going to read here
the seeming superfluous word el which
means to or unto
so in other words who comprehends in
english they don't translate it who
comprehends unto towards all their deeds
so what it's referring to is that hash
implies that hashem takes into account
the ripple effect
of each deed
and its far-reaching influence on all
the spheres of the universe
everything we do has ripple effects you
you speak blush you know i mean it could
end up causing a guy to lose a lot of
money it could
someone not getting married to somebody
there could be unbelievable positive or
negative consequences to our actions
all deeds matter right so that l in that
verse
are not equal either yes
so he basically says and
so the word el
el referring to all their deeds means
that which is impacted by their deeds
that is that the creator knows and
understands
the extent to which their deeds reach
and impact in the re rectification
of the world or to the contrary god
forbid in other words it has
a
an effect
it has an effect
um
there's an interesting incoherence
it's it's an interesting way to read it
this is in ecclesiastes
at 12 14.
okay well 14 uh reads for every
deed god will bring the judgment for
every hidden thing whether good or bad
yeah i left my cohes over there what
he's saying is like this it actually
says the word
he will bring
all the actions to elohim
let me just find the verse
so what's the word
doing there
it's it's very it's very awkward he will
bring all the actions of elohim and the
way you read it you would have read it
okay go ahead read it again how you want
to read it for every deed god will bring
to judgment for every hidden thing
whether good or bad
so once again for every deep god will
bring a judgment we're not reading like
that elohim does not have to mean god
okay it can mean all-powerful
so when a person stands in judgment
before god
he's not judged for his simple actions
alone but consideration is also given to
what actions
caused in their effect in other words
what we did we're going to be judged
not that god is going to be judged but
we're going to be judged
whether good or whether bad on all the
powers of the worlds
meaning this is the meaning of the
actions of elohim
let me just read it again like this
for he repays okay that's something else
but it's elokim the power that we were
given is going to be judged it's
relating to the action
that the the word elohim is not used in
the sense of god but in the sense of the
the power that we were given and the the
consequences of what we do are going to
be judged okay that's what the verse
means i get it okay yes and i think
that's how rabbaheima velozian explained
it yes
okay
um
this is interesting so in job 3411
job 34 11 reads for he recompenses man
for his deed and according to man's way
he causes him to find
okay now
basically
what's happening here
god weighs and measures both reward and
punishment justly
according to the person and the deed
so if you're a rich person you steal
you you deserve to be dealt with more
sternly than perhaps a poor man who who
committed the same crime but he was
doing it
just out of hunger
conversely a poor man who sacrifices to
give charity deserves greater reward
than perhaps a wealthy person but
basically the idea is that
he repays the deeds of man this is
something that we should you know our
our actions
have
consequences
i just want to you know stress that more
and more and more
um
let me go back to my own pages
in proverbs 5 22.
proverbs 5 22 reads uh his iniquity
shall trap the wicked man and he shall
be hanged with the ropes of his sin
okay so
so the sins that we do
are creating energies
that will trap the wicked man
and he shall be hanged by the rope with
the ropes of his of his sin
in other words you basically created
your own i'm gonna call destiny you know
what i mean you you created the ropes
which you're gonna be hung with
okay
so this is pretty heavy stuff
um what i want to do now because i made
so many notes for myself
i'm going to make sure i do not
um
skip anything
i think just to just go over certain
ideas
so we're creating these angels whether
positive or negative as we said one
could be a
a advocating angel one could be a
prosecuting angel and it's going to
accuse us for judgment yet hashem is
himself sustaining these that angel
we'll call the satan this is nothing
anybody who's been studying judaism
understands that this is a very
i'm going to say uniquely jewish idea
now because many people just taken off
with this whole idea of satan
being a rival with god that is out of
control some fallen angel
and it couldn't be further from the
truth he's not a fallen angel very
obedient angel
god is sustaining
the satan he's sustaining
and we've talked about isaiah is it
isaiah
45 7.
you want to go there
and again 45
7.
is it 47 versus five all right let's
just see
i think it's forty five seven
forty five seven is uh who forms light
and creates darkness who makes peace and
creates evil i am the lord who makes all
these
yeah just i just want to go back to five
i am hashem and there is no other
other than me there is no god right no
power i will gird you
though you did not know me in order that
those from east and west would know
there is nothing besides me i am hashem
and there is no other and the verse you
quoted i am the one who forms light and
creates darkness
what do the next verses say well the
words he who makes peace and creates
evil and sustaining evil again the word
evil and art in art
it's not exactly what most most people
think it is
okay
nothing evil emanates from hashem
so what are we talking about here
again it's the out of the kindness and
love that god has for us he wants to see
us get on our way and do the right thing
and earn the reward
um
put it this way
he gave us free will that's part of the
image of god and he wants to give us the
greatest good for exercising that free
will
so that's part of the reason that he's
hidden so that the free will
had we're able to make real choices
where did i want to go with this idea
that what we call raw evil because
forget the english word the word ra
okay
ra
we translate is evil but let's translate
it differently
let's call
which is we call good let's call it
revealed good
and ra
let's translate as the balatini would
say
as hidden good meaning you cannot see
the good in it but now that we know that
our
actions have consequences
and god is so
patient and he
he's he has faith in us he really does
he has faith in us what do we say in the
morning
right now
that hashem returned my soul i am so
grateful for because
he has great faith in me
he is
his great faith in me
that i will hopefully
wake up read the signs right god is
constantly sending us signs
you know
you know don't make that left turn or
you know maybe
you know whatever it is you know
signs of how to behave you know through
loving friends and neighbors and family
that say you know you could really
improve on this or please don't do that
again to me whatever it is right the
signs that come across are we reading
the signs do we want to get to the
destination
so hashem wants us to do truva so he is
so patient and he's sustaining i'm going
to call whatever we call the negative
consequences the ones that we created he
is sustaining because they are our
rebuke
they are what we created in order to
read the signs and uh take the message
and um you know we can go on and on and
on i mean there's a lot of other stuff
here um
let me see what else i have to share
with you
thank you that was well said
okay i'm gonna just quote from here
and
did we read did we read proverbs 13 21
already
uh we read 522 proverbs 5 22.
okay let's do uh proverbs 13 21
21 reads yeah evil will pursue sinners
but the righteous he will pay a good
reward
yeah we read that a while back
jeremiah okay
okay so the destructive angel is then
charged with punishing a person the
person who created who sin created it as
uh in year me in
in
jeremiah 2 19 we read the sinner
rectifies his sin by enduring the
suffering
it itself brings upon him this is just
the way creation is
now i wanted to show you
there is a verse here
there's not a verse a source material
here on perch a vote
when it says at the end of parque a vote
that chuvan masim tovim shield from
punishment
i wanted to read this idea
again there's just so much to talk about
um i'm going to just read it the rashoni
there's different opinions
about amongst rishonim which actual
maseem told him which good acts is the
tana of our mishna talking about that is
going to prevent or shield you from
these negative consequences
so the rambam and the rebecca explain
that the intent is that you had the
intent you had for the good actions
that you performed
before you did the sin
or maybe you ended up not seeing it
sinning at all
however rabindra yon and the meeri
explain the intent about one of these
massim told him these good actions is
what you did after
uh so either way
masim tovin whether it was before you
sinner after sin are going to
be beneficial along with the chuva
he just mentions about this idea of
latrice that trees is considered like a
shield like a person would bring out to
war so when the enemy hits him that the
the
spears or the arrows are deflected
that's the idea of the trees
but some explain a tree
really is like a doer a delete
a doer because that's the language
um that you can find
it's actually it's talked about in the
gamora and baits it doesn't matter right
now
so true and massive
are they prevent
like a door it prevents the punishments
from coming
like the door of a house prevents
people from coming in it would prevent
this um the negative consequences
now we talked about the word paranoia
which is like basically payment
so the meforshim the commentators ask
that
there are sins that chuva alone
is not enough to save you from
punishment
so it's disgusting
yuma
that if somebody transgressed certain
sins and for for jews that we would know
this these are like the more serious of
sins and i imagine for uh non for
non-jews for nochides
pretty much any sin you do i want you to
know is pretty serious okay
so there's thing called chris or misuse
based in whether it's being cut off for
the jewish people or
um
if if the based in would have required
the death penalty
so then chuva repentance
and what we call yom kippur and i'm sure
this applies to non-jews as well rosh
hashanah and yom kippur
they are hanging in the balance
and it sounds like basically the only
thing that would really help would be
surim so usorim are
troubles or suffering
suffering actually cleanses and we'd
rather suffer in this world than the
next world
so that's the first idea however
we're actually left with a question
because the idea was that masim told him
chuba massimtokin should have prevented
any
suffering right that's what piranios is
going to do
and yet for a jew has to understand that
truth and yom kippur is fine but also
you still need to suffer
so so how how does the ton in this
nation help us
if you're if he's saying that it's
actually guarding from the suffering so
here's the answer given by the abarbanel
that if we look in the gemara
that it says that shubha does help
repentance does help
but when
when it's done with
masim tovim
okay the masim tovim combined with the
truva is enough to stave off any kind of
peronnios
okay so that is
the idea over there
okay
and that should apply to non-jews as
well
and bizrat hashem we could learn more do
more
and
as i said get with the program right we
have a beautiful
instruction manual called the torah
it's given to mankind
it's talking to the jews
but it's also talking to the world in
other words you have to understand when
so god said to moses speak to the
children of israel
those are misses that are strictly for
the jews
and again when i say strictly to the
jews i mean these are things that
obligatory for the jews and if it's
logical or if it's uh ethical non it
also applies to non-jews and then there
are so many things we saw with the whole
dialogue with cayenne
cayenne answered but is it too too much
for me to bear there's a whole dialogue
going on there we feel guilty when we
sin we know we're aware of the fact it
doesn't sit right we
hopefully we we are cognizant of some
mistake that we made
that can be rectified
and so the question is not it remains a
stain on our soul that needs yeah it
needs to be scrubbed in the in the
world to come and you don't want to
right and hashem is very patient and
he's he's bearing the sin
number one
he's sustaining
the negative consequences that could go
out and affect the world yeah the ripple
effect the byproduct yeah
the sooner we do chuva the less
damage
is done i want to thank you for sharing
that uh concept of masim tovim i've
never heard it
in that
phrase before but it gives me something
more to study but it makes great
sense for sure and
you definitely bring it down into the
logical and the ethical
when it's understandable and digestible
and we can decipher
what is intended uh it brings a sense of
responsibility and i hopefully beneoic
catch that and and more so realize that
they can make the world a better place
beginning with ourselves and cleaning up
our own act and the effects that our
uh lives have on uh the the communities
and uh the people around us and uh you
can make the world a better place and i
think that's what the rabbis
uh teaching us about the divine
uh attributes of hashem's mercy
and um
to think uh you know
of how merciful hashem is when it comes
to the the evils or the sins that we are
all guilty of
oh
i i might as well spend just a few more
minutes going through some of the
comments on this mishna
because it says if you just do one
mitzvah so maybe like which mitzvah
this comes to teach you that even one
mitzvah should not be considered light
in your eyes if one mitzvah creates a
an advocate for you
that some don't don't take it lightly
the also another idea the fact that it
says one
a very specific one that if you
strengthen yourself persons strengthen
themselves in one particular mitzvah and
they actually perform it according to
all its details and finer details
in purity and intent
then they will acquire for themselves
literally you know this one
type of um
advocating angel
um
you should know that it's pure and good
without any um negativity at all okay
that's an interesting idea now even the
word itself
and
peroclite we said means the positive
um
advocate
so the commentator here explains
that proc lead is a combination of two
words and they're actually
um
actually this is we're not going to say
this yet i was going to say it's uh it's
um greek
that's the next word so let's stick with
this so basically parak when someone is
perak it means they unload the yoke
colombia
basically what they're doing
is they're unloading and removing
and then as a result of removing the
yoke of heaven so to speak
then you're awakening the satan
who is equivalent to the curse
right we said the satan the evil
incarnation the angel of death so we had
in this week's parachute we had the
blessings and the curses not the only
time but we have this concept
to choose you know choose life if we
don't listen to god then we bring upon
ourselves the curses
so the satan
by awakening the satan by unloading the
mitzvahs so then we're awakening the
curses
so the word lit remember it's perak lit
you're un you're on what you call
unburdening yourself you're
them from yourself
the lit
so the targum
the targum the the the um
the aramaic explanation is aurora
so you're you're unloading
the procleate when you do a mitzvah
you're getting rid of the sutton you're
getting rid of the negative consequences
just in the name alone you're creating
this
advocate
that is defending you and getting rid of
we'll call it the dark side the other
side the prosecuting angel it's actually
getting rid of the curse
unbelievable
beautiful and then the mr small brings
down the name of the ripa that when a
person does a mid mitzvah
you're doing the good act you're doing
the mitzvah you're removing the curse
that is on one of your limbs
i mean even non-jews are going to
experience resurrection of the dead and
you don't want
a uh a blemished limb
when you get up for this great and
awesome day
so each limb is parallel to one of the
mitzvahs
until
you end up performing all of the
mitzvahs
and then you will remain clean and lucky
or pure innocent from any sin
from any of the
impurities of limbs
but then that was the word parak leet
from the advocate what about the word
kategar kategar is
we're called
the um the the prosecuting attorney
there's the senegar
these are aramaic terms but one is a and
they're used in modern hebrew
senegar is the
advocating
attorney so the katagar is what you
create when one
so sins
explains it's from the language of karey
tagar in other words k tagar it's from
the word
it's calling out
tagart tagar
means
you still there oh yeah
quarrel to fight
to challenge
okay so you're calling out in a negative
sense
and
uh another uh the moxor victory explains
which means about the the
the owner of quarrel and and um
provoking
is that what you want to be no
so that's uh and that's one idea or
connect tagar acquiring
uh
acquiring a quarrel right
um and anyway that's first historic
explains that it's actually uh greek
and it means in greek
dores
that you're seeking evil
okay so anyway that's a little bit of
the background explanation to this
mishna that mentions that if you do one
mitzvah you co-net you acquire yourself
a paraclete which is a um
an advocate someone who's a malloch an
angel who's uh who's um shall we say his
mele it's joshua he's going to try to
get you out of trouble he's going to
speak up on your behalf
yeah you have a question um yeah rabbi
if you could um you mentioned uh out of
pirkei evos uh chapter four
um
i was just scrolling ahead on that and i
think that this just an uh
an idea of note uh if you could
elaborate how this may affect uh uh noah
hides uh it says there it says
rabbi
yehuda said be careful in study for an
error in study counts as deliberate sin
and i think that uh
uh that that that could be causing a a
ripple effect a lot of noahides i see
are are always plugged into a lot of
classes but if they're not getting the
whole of the matter if they're not
taking it serious and only uh looking at
it superficially uh there's got to be
ripple effect and and you know this is
the way uh idolatry i'm sure and things
have sprung up or phony religions is
they missed the mark on the on the on
the lesson taught and are passing it
incorrectly onto others and so uh this
is how it could be a a deliberate sin i
don't know i mean
i'll tell you what the deliberate sin
when you when somebody goes to a
unqualified rabbi
and knows
they're looking for a quickie answer a
lenient answer
um they're going to them because they
they they want to be told what they want
to hear what they want to hear yeah when
they hear they want to be told what they
want to hear
so in other words the idea is if the
person is not qualified
so then it's
negligence and not only that
so you'll be held account forget the
rabbi i mean he'll he'll have his own
you know
uh day in court in heaven but the fact
that you chose knowingly this rabbi
who's not qualified so you really have
to shop well
know well who you're going to learn your
uh your information from and your
transmission from
that's the first part
the second part is to review i mean we
went through the 48 ways you want to get
wisdom
you know and you want to maintain the
wisdom that you get and make sure that
you're on
go through the 48 ways
go through them
you know even if it's just superficially
go through them realize there are
certain traits that in order to really
you know not be fooled
to not be fooled you know and um
so the responsibility called the onus is
on you
to be able to choose and then to follow
through and it has to make sense
wow okay so i think you're spot on today
rabbi you're really uh
you seem to have an extra masala to to
convey clearly today um and i'm so
appreciative of you sharing this uh
course with us
all right so look bizrat hashem in a few
weeks we'll take uh the third uh
attribute
and um what i wanted to mention is that
uh i won't be you know should we have
shruas
coming up in a couple of weeks yeah
so with mizrat hashem soon right after
um but anyway the third meda is either
alpesha he removes iniquity
okay so we're going to find out
what that is all about so stay tuned and
hopefully join us the next time we meet
excellent and yeah this is going to be
just super exciting stuff i look forward
to the next one for sure because it
totally ties in with everything you
shared today very very very important
stuff folks especially for you bernie
noah
how to overcome
the difficulties of your own uh personal
inadequacies and more than that how to
uh make the world a better place in the
process uh i think that's what he's
really teaching us here with the uh
the attributes of divine mercy it's just
phenomenal to think of it from that way
the way you touched on it today the the
way the the thing is is sustained and
it's really our our our actions and uh
the repercussions
oh
it makes me just cringe and want to go
to prayer real real quick so i think
we're going to sign out for today folks
we thank you everybody for joining us uh
on the know hide world center social
media and other places uh and thank you
so much uh rabbi poston for staying up
late there in jerusalem to teach with us
uh the the the wonderful light of uh
torah and its great concepts you were
spot on today thank you sir and we wish
you all a wonderful wonderful
