Heat. Heat.
Shalom everybody. Welcome back to the
Iban Bait Midash. Welcome home to Torah.
A warm welcome home to Torah. We are in
the safer called the gioreim. Of course,
it was written by the very same Schlommo
Ery Milunit. the clear car. He always
begins with a a medish and sometimes he
relates to it, sometimes he doesn't. But
we want to mention that this is highly
textual, right? We encourage you to
learn Hebrew. So grab yourselves a
Hebrew sheet and if you're online,
there's a link in the description box
below uh to the para. You just have to
uh look for the right book, the right
para, the right year and uh the original
Hebrew sheets are posted on the website.
So we're in parasa
and he starts off with the verse. Okay,
you can see that in source number one,
right? So
God is saying to Moshe to he should
speak to Aon and say to him by there's
there's so much to talk about. I don't
want to get too sidetracked, but even
the word via
does it mean speak and speak only? Very
interesting. There's a verse.
Try to find it. I'm sorry that I don't
have my own uh source sheets delineated
as well as I would like to.
Um, okay. in number 15
page four when God says you have
selected the Lord this day right I mean
Moses is speaking it's Deuteronomy 26
verse 16 and 17 so the word what is
selected right it's bir and we're going
to see that word in our parha but it
also means in Hebrew vartm
Ham,
hamarta means distinguished, separated.
It's amazing that word. Now, if you talk
about the word amar to say, we have to
ourselves understand that we're created
in the image of God. God breathed into
us the breath of life, right? As Ankala
says when God right in the Pik that says
that God breathed into us right a a a um
the breath of life the breath of life
according to ankalis is a speaking
spirit he translated a ru mala a
speaking spirit
and we're going to talk about that the
soul when it says
everyone translates it as to ignite to
kindle
to light.
But what's the real root? Aliyah,
like to go up. And and we know that the
soul is like the candle of God. So we're
going to see some mystical ideas here
without getting too far ahead of
ourselves. I just want to let me just
finish that verse in number source
number 15. So not only did God say that
you the Jewish people have selected the
Lord this day beginning of verse 17 and
the Lord has selected you this day also
the same word
right don't forget the word amore and
you know in French means love right so
let's go back to the beginning of this
medish we we had the verse
The measures tells us there were four
things that Moses found difficult. The
word is
he was perplexed. He couldn't figure out
exactly what it was or h the the exact
measurements of certain things or how to
make it like the minora veu. This is the
list of the things that Moses found
perplexed perplexing difficult. the
minora skullim corban and the roshesh
the new moon
the truth is that all four of these
items says the word z the very fact it
says z it's as if god as if ku god
pointed with his finger to explain when
you say this you're pointing this right
so the measure says Moses was perplexed
about these four things
until Hashem showed him. Of course, God
doesn't have a finger, doesn't have a
hand, doesn't have a body, but it's as
if God pointed it out to him. And each
one of these verses has the word,
like we said, the new moon in Exodus
12:2,
right? This shall be the to you the head
of the months. It should be the first of
the months of the year. The word z is
used by skullim zitnu. This is God had
to show Moshe what exactly the shekele
look like the measurement
by the corbonos which is interesting
because the clear brings down this is
when god when Moses was speaking to aon
this is the corbin of Aaron and his sons
during the inauguration it's in vikra
Leviticus 6:13 but the original medish
is talking about which animals are
kosher and which are not kosher now this
corbin that Moses that arm was bringing
was actually a minos not even an animal.
But if it means z because the word z
corban we can somehow relate that it was
also to tell them which corbanote were
kosher for the altar and which were not.
And the minor of course which is our
para zoo.
Okay. So this is the production is how
it's made. And it says Z. So as if Hash
Moshe had a difficulty with all four of
these things and God went out of his way
to explain or to show what each of these
things were would look like. Okay, let's
begin with the nuts and bolts. This is
the discipline of Makshava thought
philosophy and I'm bring that up again
and you'll see why later on we're going
to talk about the seven branches of the
minora. how there are six branches of
wisdom that all point inward towards the
center um and philosophy or
philosophizing metaphysics is one of the
disciplines and that that's what we do
this is philosophy
this is something that's well known I
mean when I read this I thought back to
Jacobu
and when Jacob the Gomorrah says he was
BK Shalom. That's when the rogue shows
he was looking for peace. He he had a
hard life and he wanted peace. He wanted
a sh of tranquility and Hashem caused a
disturbance that Yseph was sold. Sadikim
should not be seeking it. They'll get it
hopefully maybe. No guarantee in the
world to come for sure. But in this
world there's no guarantee. And if
you're looking for it, this is a time
for growth. What do they say? That there
is no growth in a safe space. Right? I
think the world, they're all looking for
what they call safe spaces. There's no
such thing as growth. You need that
friction. You need that irritation. It
just happens to be the way it is. So
here it is. The whole time that a person
experiences sha
he's living in a tranquil state.
He will I'm going to say likely does
it's not a guarantee but he'll likely
rebel kick because of the abundance of
goodness. Now I think about the curses
one of the curses and one of the worst
curses like a summation of all the
curses in Deuteronomy is that God gave
you so much goodness and you weren't
happy.
And it sounds like it's really a
culmination of all the curses that it's
a really big I'm not going to call sin.
It's a big mistake to live your life
with all the goodness that God gives us
and we're not happy. So it it's a nod.
It's it's something you have to work on
to have
really the that means is the hem. Okay.
So this is going to be the theme. We may
not like it.
Because when we think of the Jewish
people, at least many of us, there's an
affluent neighborhood. Many of us grew
up somewhat affluent or new affluent
people. And you know, the Jews weren't
always affluent, but uh it says like
this
that because of such abundance goodness,
they're likely to rebel. And he brings a
proof from Gomorra Bro uh 32a and it
brings down two verses to start with in
Deuteronomy chapter 32 verse 15. So and
Yeshurin became wax and fat and rebelled
right
that's a nickname for the Jewish people
and it's also written in chapter 31
verse 20 and they will eat and be
satisfied and live on the fat of the
land and then what will happen then they
will turn to other deities
right let's just look where do we have
it on the source sheet
That would be
where
>> number nine
>> number nine.
Deuteronomy 31:20. And I will bring them
to the land that which I have sworn to
their forefathers to give them a land
flowing with milk and honey. They will
eat and be satisfied and live on the fat
of the land. then they will turn to
other deities and serve them provoking
me and violating my covenant.
Elohim.
So look, we we we see that these are now
I just want to stop also because one of
the biggest pitfalls or should we say
mixture stumbling blocks for us is
that we think that because we have such
a strong army and we have such in great
intelligence and we rely on ourselves.
We should re really recognize and
remember always that we have a good army
and we have great intelligence because
it's a gift from God. It's not because
of me. And that is I'm going to just say
one of the uh the pitfalls over and over
again. God says don't get cocky. Don't
think it's you. Remember you're not the
balabay, right? Don't because of your
abundance and goodness you might come to
forget me. Okay? And we're going to see
that theme over and over again. So, but
this is the surprising part. He says,
what mid are we talking about? The mida
of rebelling because we have abundance
of good. He says
for some reason, I mean, we look at the
world
and we don't think we're that much
different than anybody else. Apparently
there is one difference maybe among
others that there's something unique
about the Jewish people
maybe perhaps if you look at history I
mean we've seen it with the kings you
know go back to the Bible and the kings
so you had a good king and a bad king a
good king and a bad it's good you know
sometimes the good kings the sorry the
bad kings because things were really
well and then they got I guess you
wax and fat and uh and lost their their
ump to serve Hashem properly. So we see
it. I mean I just think you know why are
we any different? Uh the Roman Empire
fell because of prosperity. They were so
wealthy they they stopped having
children and they whatever they um
they were u they're very corrupt and it
was their downfall.
So he claims,
right, this is unique to the Jewish
people that whenever in history we had
it really well, we ended up going
sideways off the Derek.
So Hashem, I'm going to say he reviewed,
he checked it out. He looked at all the
positive traits that the Jewish people
have and he picked one one mida that is
the best for us. It's like crushing a an
olive and getting the best oil. He says
the best situation for the Jewish
people. I'm going to use the word
poverty. Now, poverty doesn't
necessarily mean financial poverty.
It could mean, and we'll see it,
humility, a certain level of humility.
And we'll see when we get to, which
we're going to quote in a second. But I
want to translate the word hakna as
obedience. It really means submission.
And maybe there's no difference between
submission and obedience, but he says
again, if you think it's your power, you
your ego is big. You're on top of the
world. You don't have to listen to
nobody and therefore you're not
submissive to Hashem. That's why I'm
using the word obedient because it just
makes sense. You'll fall into line.
Now, in the future, Sophia, which you
look at the the verses before and after,
it certainly seems to be talking about
the the messianic time. And yet, even
then,
look in Spania 3:12, number 10 on the
source sheet. And I will leave over in
your midst a humble and poor people. Now
in Hebrew it's anal but Rashi uses the
words anal and he explains it's a humble
people that submits to humiliation. In
other words
we before Messiah comes I get it that
we're a humiliated people. You look at
the news and you know all the fake news
about the Jews. It's all about trying to
humiliate us after the Messiah comes. I
don't see that happening. And you can
see even I think the verse before it
says you will not be humiliated at this
point. So I think it means that we're
humble. In other words, the people a
humble people that submits to
humiliation and other ones we should be
vatim
but there's a word I was looking for be
to be a vatan to allow.
>> You know the idea in Christianity they
say to turn the other cheek. It's it's
far from Judaism, but there is within
the metaphysics the idea that everything
comes from Hashem. It's always for our
best. And in fact, if there is something
insulting to you personally, you're
supposed to let it go. Right? When
someone insults you personally, you
actually supposed to turn the other
cheek. When they insult God or Jewish
people, that you have to stand up for.
But to be a vatan is is a big is a big
thing.
Um, hope I'm not getting too off the
subject, but here the the Hebrew was
and that the the people will not only be
uh let's say poor and humble, but they
will find refuge in Hashem. And this is
a messianic prophecy. There's also um it
talks about in in in the Tanakh also
that poverty will never cease. So if in
the messianic there's a makus but let's
just say according to that the opinion
that after Msiah comes there'll still be
poverty. So the idea is that we'll all
be giving sodaka. We still have the
mitzvah after Mashia comes. So we still
have a mitzvah of giving saddaka and
they'll be well taken care of. So it's
not the end of the world. In other
words, it's not a reason to, oh, I want
Mashiach, so I get out of my debts,
right? There's a bigger reason for Msiah
and it's national
anyway.
Since we say there were times at those
times that Israel would be prosperous
and they would rebel,
therefore there's a beer. A bureau is a
separation like the word to distinguish
and to separate like we saw in that
verse that God separated from the Jewish
people.
He separated the priestly class
so they could
be servants of the supreme. I I I I
still like to translate it as supreme
servants, but I think servants of the
supreme. And by and by the way, it's not
just them. In a certain sense, even
though they're separated from Israel to
be the supreme servants or servants of
the supreme, who do who do you think the
Jewish people are? We are a mit kohanim,
right? We are kadosh. In fact, when
we started the month of Sivan, we looked
into it. Why are we not saying taken for
the first 13 days? So, I get it. Rosh
kesh. We're not going to say tanun. The
three days of preparation, we're not
going to say,
we don't say taken. And then the six
days of tashim, we don't say taken. But
what about that stay after after roes?
It's not it's like an oddball. It was
that day that God um designated the
Jewish people as a kanim and that's why
we don't say takun on that day. Okay. So
we were distinguished as a nation of
priests a priestly nation
and these theim were separated from the
Jewish people to be just that
servants of the supreme.
Now, this is strange because, you know,
you look at the maps of Israel and you
see the 12 tribes and how they're all
situated. Where's Ley? Well, how many
tribes are there? We have 12 tribes that
have spots. So, it depends how you
count. When you count Yoseph, you count
Ley. But when you right, Manasha and
Ephraim are the children of Yseph. So,
you don't count Yoseph, you count
Manasha and Fry. You have 12.
When you count Yseph, then you have to
count Ley or or you have 13 tribes,
which is very possible, but that's how
that's how the count works.
Ley does not have a portion in the land
of Israel. There are cities and there
are green areas around the cities, but
it's mainly for recreation and for a
little bit a little bit of farming.
Okay, it's more like maybe uh for
agriculture and for noi, for beauty.
Uh a city should have right a healthy
city should have um I'm not say just
playgrounds but a place where you could
I don't know you know not be in concrete
jungle you know you need to see a little
bit of green
Tel Aivian
okay so they're not going to have a in
the
but are they going to benefit from they
have to eat they have to live they're
going to eat from God's table, so to
speak. They're going to be given the
trumas and the maestras and the corbanos
and the different, you know, first first
fruits. There's a lot of things that are
going to be given to the kanim and the
levim. They're basically eating off
the high table translated God's table
in order that they don't become through
their wealth.
I happen to know a lot of and they broke
Hashem. They're doing well. Either they
invested well with old money or maybe
because they blessed the Jews. See, it
says in the Torah that if you who those
who bless you will be blessed and they
have they have the special mitzvah of
blessing the Jews every single day right
just in fact the clear brings up in
another place it says
thustly you shall bless we already know
there's 24 gifts that are given over to
kim he says there's actually a 25th gift
cafe
to thusly you shall bless what does the
kuff represent What's the 25th gift? The
mitzvah of blessing the Jewish people.
That's where their wealth will come
from. That's where that's the gift that
they're blessing. I just want everyone
to know you bless the Jewish people.
You're going to you're going to do
great. You're going to do great in life.
Okay.
So it says here that these and will not
become rich be in other words in order
not to become by becoming rich
they weren't included in becoming
wealthy because in agricultural society
has land whoever's got the most land or
let's say the best land and the best
workers and the marketing and whatever
it is they do to become uh wealthy
their in hem. They trust in hem. And
wait till you hear this.
Perhaps because of their poverty or
perhaps because of their humility. I'm
not sure. It might be a combination.
They trust in Hashem and because they
trust in Hashem and they're doing the
vote in the base of Mikdash. However it
is, they will have the ability to atone
for the Jewish people. Sorry. And that's
what it means. Now this is a very
complicated cifree on Dvarim Kuamdal.
And when I say complicated because a lot
of people are not familiar with some of
the background and
I'm going to try my best to give it
over. Okay. So this is the background
in Deuteronomy chapter 18 verse 2.
It's um number 12 on the source sheet.
So the Levitical Coanim, the entire
tribe of Ley shall have no portion or
inheritance with Israel, meaning in the
land. The Lord's fire offering and his
inher inheritance they shall eat. So
they're eating off shan gavo, but he
shall have no inheritance among his
brothers. In Hebrew,
What this
medish does, it breaks this verse into
two this statement into two things.
There's the
and there's a shiva. Let me just the
background just to keep it simple that
when Eritra was conquered, Moshe and
Yahosua when they were dividing up the
land they they there was a conquering of
there were seven no seven sorry seven
Canaanite nations here and some of them
were were conquered early on many were
conquered later. So originally Moshe and
Yeshua distributed to five of the tribes
of the 12 tribes with peace, let's say
by getting rid of the um the Canaanite
nations only on
only on certain areas of Eric Israel.
Later on after Moshan Aaron passed away
then the remaining seven tribes there
was a conquering of those remaining um
um Canaanite nations.
So what it means is but he shall have no
inheritance among his brothers simply
simply that he's not going to have an
inheritance in the land of Israel. But
it's broken up into five and seven. If
you look down on number 12 at the very
bottom of Rashi, Rashi now explains this
version of the cif. The first reference
is to the inheritance of the five
meaning five of the 12 tribes. The
second meaning the seven is referring to
the inheritance of the remaining seven
tribes. Seven and five is 12. Now Moses
and Yeshua portioned inheritance only to
five tribes. Okay? So Moshe gave to Ruv
and to God half tribe Manasha. Yeshua
gave to Yehud and to Aphry and the other
half of Manasha. So that's five. The
remaining seven tribes took their
inheritance by themselves after Yoshua's
demise. So for some reason there's this
distinction distinction between five
former tribes and seven later tribes.
But it's all referring to the land of
Israel just broken up. So knowing that
the clear says
right there won't be a portion to him
that's the
whereas
amongst his brothers
that's going to be the portion for
seven.
So there are many commentators that
explained
right there's many different answers
according to their ability to give it
over
the car says but I'm going to tell you
something
it's going according to what we said
what is what is the theme we've been
saying that an that poverty is some
again right is somehow good for the
Jewish people because otherwise we're
going to kick
rebel so the levim and the kim do not
get an inheritance so they don't get
caught up in wealth so they can be
clear-headed and do what they serve
Hashem properly and atone for us and not
get distracted right they're going to be
the true servants they are not going to
have the ability to become wealthy
through agriculture
as he say
they were separated ated selected
amongst the Jewish people from within
the Jewish people
they weren't given a portion in the land
so they don't become wealthy
they're going to atone for us while
we're not allowed to make mistakes but
we may make mistakes so somehow or
another they're going to remain uh clean
of this sin
and they'll be able to atone for us.
The next paragraph begins, it's actually
in Vikaraba,
um, we'll call chapter 2, section five,
paragraph 5, not four.
It says in the para, now look at chapter
8 verse 19. You're going to find this as
number 14 on the source sheet. Notice I
highlighted the children of Israel how
many times?
Five times. You have one verse and the
Jewish people's name Ben Israel is
mentioned five times.
I've given the Levites as a gift to Ara
and his sons from among the children of
Israel. Time number one to perform the
service for the children of Israel.
Number two, in the tent of meeting and I
underlined and to atone on behalf of the
children of Israel. That's the third
time. And the children of is so that the
children of Israel the fourth time will
not be inflicted with plague. I
underline that when the children of
Israel approach the sanctuary. So five
times in one verse. You got to find that
odd. And if we stop here, you won't be
able to sleep tonight. Right?
Yeah. We have to go on. We have to find
out what's going on. The background is
there's this special number of five and
seven. Right? Somehow another there's
going to be these five traits
that are not good and there's going to
be seven traits that are not good and
that leim and the cone will not have a
portion in these character traits.
Okay, but there's also we know five is a
good number. Five books of Moses we
seven sadik falls down seven times and
gets up there's seven names to the to
the there's seven categories of sadikim
so five and seven is like you know free
will okay it go either way but he brings
a mesh he says based on this verse
right it mentions five times the Jewish
people
What exactly is this analogous to?
Latino.
It's analogous to a young child who goes
every day to school.
Now, the father is asking about him. He
has a member of the household that takes
his child to school. And he asked this
custodian.
He asked him five questions. Not
insignificant. Five questions. He wants
to know if my son is eating healthily,
if he's drinking properly, if he's
getting enough sleep, how is the school?
Was it safe and uh on the way and on the
way back? So that's five questions.
based on this five questions you can
ask. You need to really think we want to
think deeply and analyze
this analogy.
Why was this analogy go? What what what
does it mean that a child's going to a
school
or why is it mentioned
about how he eats, how he drinks, and
how he sleeps? Is he is he eating well,
sleeping well?
He's going with the same theme. He's
going to explain everything according to
the same thing.
Garmlehem
he's now bringing it to let's say the
forefront here that there are five
things that wealth causes let me just
read again if
if we were wealthy there would be five
things um
this is what I'm going to use the word
cause but he uses the word it's
basically the essence of the
rebelliousness and causes fighting riv
and nega and plague okay which we don't
we want to avoid alfil
he claims and he has proof that food can
cause hardiness you know I just thinking
back to why do we have a special mitzvah
after eating right you look around the
world I'm not I just know about the
Christians I don't know what the Muslims
do but we a special mitzvah from the
Torah to bless after we eat, after we're
satisfied. And in order so we don't
forget the Lord our God. See, when we're
all about to sit down and eat, we're all
hungry. And when you're given something,
when you're hungry, of course, you're
going to you're in a state of hakna
submission. Of course, you're going to
thank the Lord. We have a rabbitic. It's
in other words, it's really um it's like
a koshik. Even though from the Torah
after you've eaten and been satisfied,
how much more of course you're going to
bless before but we have the special
mitzvah after you ever watch I'm sure
you know by the non-Jews you don't see
them holding hands and thanking the Lord
after they eat just before which is
logical but afterwards you need that
special oomph don't forget the Lord
because you're satisfied
so in Hosiah Hosea 13:6 six,
it says over there, they were sated and
their heart became hotty. Therefore,
they forgot me. I mean, you can't get
more, you know, clear than that. Once
you're satisfied, you know, you turn the
TV on or you put your legs off, you're
totally you forget about God. But that's
what it says in Oshia.
And then he says that's by food.
So, boy, the arm live up. And what about
can also cause uh hardiness in Habacook
2:5? It's specifically talking about
wine. But okay, that's a good beverage.
And surely he when wine
does that say with whom wine betrays
a hotty man whose dwelling shall not
remain. It's not a good thing.
So you have food, you have drink and we
said remember the questions that the
father asked the caretaker. Did he sleep
well? Did he eat well? Did he drink
well? But is he sleeping well? Sovah
if there is like either laziness or
procrastination I'm not sure which but
it means laziness but you know many of
us are not really lazy we're just
procrastinators or maybe it's the same
thing I don't know so I' I'd say l so
the person is hesitating to do a mitzvah
but what are they doing
tardimat hmon on. They're basically
sleeping. They're they're wasting time.
They're not uh quick. The time has
overtaken them and they're just
sleeping. And it says in Psalms chapter
90 verse 5 regarding Rashin, regarding
evil people talks about as a flood like
a sleep. Okay, so you can look at that
verse a little bit deeper, but it's
talking about Rashim and it's like
they're asleep.
Okay, so he wants to know if his son has
slept well. And what about the fourth
because of the rebelliousness that
causes one to separate from Torah which
is of the next step and what about so
that's going to the bait safer which
we'll see and what happens at the bait
safer on the way home. So the fifth
thing is
so even we do learn but what if we're
learning for the wrong reasons? We're
not learning but we're learning
to um for self aggrandisement for to
make ourselves you know feel better. Um
is
like yoraughtiness
for reasons you're learning for reasons.
So he says
these five things.
So, it's not that they don't have, it's
true, they don't have a portion in the
land, and we said the land is like these
five and the seven, but they don't have
a portion in these five character traits
because they're going to separate
themselves from um except for eating off
of the king's table.
They separate themselves from regular
food and from
They're only going to eat what is given
to them and granted to them. They have a
lot of trust in Hashem.
Even let's just say the as a class,
right? They're not allowed to serve if
they drink intoxicating drink, right?
They we know on certain holidays where
we have a big kittish and they're going
to still do. So, they have to stay away.
They don't drink and don't do right.
That's a mistake. I'm sorry to say. I've

wrong. I'm sorry. Don't drink. You have
the whole day. Okay. So that's my
I heard it from people bigger than me.
the
even they're com they're warned they're
exonerated right about being lazy
that's why right we have this idea of
they're fervorous the are fervorous it's
that's why God gave them I'm going to
say backbreaking labor you know it says
a kaf is shoulder they shoulder a lot of
work whether you We're talking about
moving the base of Mikd the Mishkan. But
just imagine Pesak. Can you imagine,
right? All the car are working like
there's probably like 3 million sheep,
right? And they have and they do it just
in the afternoon. You're talking about a
small window. It's a lot of a lot of
work in passing the jugs of blood to be
splattered on the altar. Just there's
work all year round. But I'm just
imagining one particular day. can
imagine all the holidays and anyway
so there's a lot of work involved
they're also warned they just can't walk
out of the basement the ba mikdash when
they're doing the aod right it's like
leaving school right meaning right what
is that about school what is so unique
about the temple mount that's where the
Sanhedrin's at but what does it say
about the kanim kisham hate say Torah,
right? That's where Torah comes from.
Look at Mali
chapter 2 verse 7. For the priest's lips
shall guard knowledge
and teaching should be sought from his
mouth.
Right? We go to the judges in those
days. We go to the kohanim and they're
supposed to sit and learn and and know
what to answer so that when people come
and ask questions, this is who will have
the answers. So it's very important that
they dedicate themselves that they're
free to dedicate themselves to learning
Torah.
They're also warned to learn the Torah
in order don't become arrogant
but only to come to the proper answers
or let's say to learn for its proper
reason for its true purpose and that's
to serve Hashem properly and to give
answers when people come truthfully. So
they're warned, right? They should learn
Torah not for the sake of self
aggradisement but only for the tr its
true purpose.
And this is the reason why the are
warned not to drink because it leads to
it's moly. It it it results in and gives
off arrogance.
I'm not exactly sure what he means
there, but I assume that we are going to
rely on him to give over proper
judgment.
This is what it means that
they're not going to have a portion in
the land
meaning the five nations, the five
tribes, but it means the five land, the
fi means the five character traits,
right? Even though they're not going to
have a in the physical land, they
shouldn't have a in those five bad
character traits
because
that's the reason those traits is what
caused rebel rebelliousness
amongst his brothers he's not going to
have a he says
what is this
of It's
referring to the Jewish people when they
follow their evil inclination. The har
there's seven names to the Gomorrah
points out in sukus 52a right you have
the word ra e evil you have orel
uncircumcised
you have the word tame which means
impure another name for the is enemy
another one is mik miksha and stumbling
block ean like a stone a heart of stone
and sony which is means the hidden one
so There are seven names that the evil
inclination we call them the Satan, the
Satan, right? that has seven names and
unfortunately we we're human and
fortunately we're human but we
unfortunately follow sometimes
and all this
right why would we become rich if we
didn't have
God gave us the so we can create cures
for cancer so we can become famous it's
not a bad thing right we have a desire
to advance things in the world not
always altruistically but for hashem we
also have inclination
perhaps either become famous or or
wealthy. So that's what the can do. So
the
they don't have a portion not in the
five and not in the seven.
So therefore the are not going to have a
portion in where they can get wealth
from agriculture and in in land real
estate deals.
So they don't come into these five
character traits
and to end up being in the category of
those seven let's call them the seven
names of the but he says on the top left
however in spite of this
there are actually seven categories of
um I think it's
um
21.
Where do we have that on the sheet?
Anybody see it?
>> Yeah, number 23. 23. So, I underlined
here in the middle. There are seven
groups of righteous people who are
destined to receive the divine presence
and their faces are similar to the sun,
the moon, the firmament, the stars,
lightning, lilies. Now, that's six. And
what is the seventh? The pure
candelabrum.
I think that means the minora
candalabrum that was in the temple.
Somehow or another there's all
everything's related. Somehow it all
comes full circle. And now we're going
to get into what is this about.
So he says that these seven groups of
in the future
somehow they're hinted there's a hint to
them to the seven branches of the minora
right we have a minora for Hanukkah
there's eight but that is it's a madeup
it's a fabrication there's no such thing
as an eight right in other words you're
not allowed to replicate what we have in
the to in the temple that could be one
reason why there's an eighth day of
Hanukkah. Of course, there's 500 reasons
why there's eight days of Hanukkah. This
is not a sh on Hanukkah. I suggest you
look that up. But, uh, one reason that
the and you need an eight branched
manora because you can't make a seven
branch manura.
No, we recognize the miracle, right? The
miracle of the the uh the oil. Okay,
here we go.
What's the hes? How would you like to
translate that? This is the spiritual
reward for the soul. The lamp, the
light, the flame of the soul, which has
five names. We discussed this a few
weeks ago. You have the nephish, you
have the ru, you have the nama, you have
the and you have the there's five names.
It's really one soul or five levels of
the soul.
So he says there are five names and
that's the so now just think about we're
talking about five and seven over and
over again the verse says
I'm not sure about language if you could
have gotten without the hea the
definitive he but he says what does it
mean to raise up hos
to raise up the five candles the five
flames the meaning your soul which has
five levels. That's what that's what it
means.
It's amazing how he got to this point.
So that's what he says on the first word
of the I think sixth line. It says
heyos.
What does it mean towards the face of
the minora? By the way the clear car
asks other places. It says the seven
lights will shine towards the face of
manora. Rashi says the face of the
manora is the middle candle. So the
clear car is bothered if you have only
six
>> and the wicks are towards toward the
seven towards the middle. The torque
should have said you have six
candles that are towards the face of the
monora because the face of the monora
according to rashi is the middle. Clear
explains like this is a maklocus if the
minor was facing east or west or north
or south. But let's just assume for just
practical purpose it was facing north
and south. So you have the three candles
not real candles they're called cups
with oil. The wicks were pointed towards
the middle.
That's what it means facing towards
shining illuminating towards. And then
the seventh, the middle one,
its wick was facing towards the holy of
holies. So they were all ultimately
pointing towards the holy of holies,
meaning towards Hashem. And that's where
I wanted to mention about the we're
going to see shortly about the different
um groups of wisdom. What we do is we
take all of our earthly wisdom
or the maybe the different disciplines
of Jewish wisdom and it's all pointed
towards service of Hashem. It's all
pointed towards recognizing Hashem and
our and our obligations and our service
to him. We'll see that shortly. So
that's what he says here. The five can
meaning the soul is let's say it's
towards Hashem
and ultimately that the soul is going to
face the face of the manora and will
illuminate the seven candles. Who are
these seven candles? These are the seven
different categories of as we will
explain.
So that priestly class the living and
the going to separate themselves from
these five things.
Remember we saw that verse chapter 8
verse 19. the children of Israel are
mentioned five times. Besides the five
times, it also mentions that there's
going to be atonement and there's not
going to be any plague. This is what the
con that's what their job is to make
sure that we're atoned for and that no
plague comes upon us.
So he says this is mentioned in the
verse the five times where Israel is
mentioned.
It says they're going to atone for the
Jewish people.
The reason Israel is mentioned five
times because they're going to atone for
these five mistakes that we do. And this
is what it means in the mush. We hide
that mush in the cphree where the the
child is walking to school and the
father asks the custodian these five
questions.
Who is this? In the m it's Israel. How
do we know it's Israel? Hosiah chapter
11 verse1 says when Israel was young I
loved him right Israel
so that's the youth Israel is the youth
shaher
and he's going to the bafer what's that
laarsi on his way to hari which we were
there remember I spoke about this over
shuis but basically
it doesn't sound nice for the non-Jews
but it's just a fact we Cena hatred came
into the world. Why kind of what is
anti-semitism?
It's really self-hatred that they didn't
take the Torah. They were asked, they
were offered the Torah and they didn't
take it and now they hate themselves for
that decision they made and they're
going to pay for it. Okay, let's leave
it at that for now. But it says
that we went to receive the Torah.
to exclude, right, the non-Jews, the the
the nations. Shalom.
They turned it down. They not only did
not accept it, they said, "What's in it?
Okay, we're not interested. That's our
whole essence." But they didn't accept
the Torah.
God, I'm not going to say he's not
concerned with them, but he doesn't he's
not exacting with their actions. They're
not going to receive the worst
punishments and they're not going to
receive the worst rewards. I'm going to
say it's almost a little bit of
indifference almost, which is really the
worst thing you could do in in a
relationship. At least Hashem loves us
and he corrects us and he gives us
muser, right? It's very difficult. When
someone loves you, they're going to give
you m ande is show. Look what it says.
He's more exacting reward and punishment
with our behavior
regarding these list of five things
right that we talked about already. So,
Hashem was
he separated this priestly class
and
they're not going to have a portion in
which we thought meant physically the
land of Israel which is true but it's
these five character traits
they are going to atone for the Jewish
people, even when we're making mistakes.
Obviously, we shouldn't make mistakes,
but we're human. We're not angels,
right? The Torah is not given to angels.
Let's just finish this last paragraph on
the third page. Uh just on the right
side, right? We saw the verse that
mentions Israel five times. That was in
Numbers 8:19.
Fine. So that is connected the food
meaning these five things
when we said we're concerned about their
eating. So
rest in Vietnam.
So what you fill your stomach with what
you put in your stomach it could come
and lead towards sin.
But that's us. But
it says in Psalms 40:9,
um, "Oh God, I desired to do your will
and to have your law within my inards."
Now, interestingly enough, just you
should know that the Levim, right, the
um and the Coim, they're going to be
counted from the age of 30 days and
upward. And I think there's a ping in
Jeremiah that I was already sanctified
in the womb and he was a Cohen. There's
something unique about the the tribe
that they're not waiting until they're
20 years old like the rest of the the
Israelites, but already either from 30
days. And the 30-day mark is really an
idea that it was a viable baby, but
they're already counted while in the
womb. But this verse is referring on a
pashup shot to us eating kosher food. If
we eat kosher food, so then I have the
Torah in my inards, right? I'm living
I'm a living Torah. I have I keep I keep
kosher. But I think it also means the
Torah itself. Meaning the Torah is in
the inards. What we eat, not just what
we eat, but you know, becomes your blood
and it's in your inards.
I'll vote voted Ben Israel. Remember
these are all based on on the pukim that
has the the Ben Israel five times and
what they mean. So to serve the Jewish
people, they're going to serve the
Jewish people. That's parallel to the
idea of of what we said good sleep
because they're not going to be lazy.
They're going to do backbreaking labor.
And it says
that the going to have they're going to
have fervor to serve Hashem.
I'm sorry.
Remember, it says that they're going to
atone for the Jewish people in that
verse. That's referring to the fact that
they're not going to drink, you know,
excessively or they're going to have
healthy drinks, not wine. And that's um
which wine brings you to sin and
therefore they're required to atone.
meaning for the Jewish people, but they
are able to because they're not involved
in sinning. It says by a nazir in
numbers 611 chapter 6 11 when the nuzir
brings his atonement his offering and
the kanim are going to atone on his
behalf for sinning by coming in contact
with the dead. But it specifically says
that the are going to atone for this
person's involvement with drink
originally. That's why he became a
nazir.
um
previously he sinned with the that's why
he became he thought he needed to become
a nause and that's
also the Pik says there won't be a neg
amongst the Jewish people some kind of a
plague that's going to be parallel to
the going to school remember in the
original medish
Oh,
so when you separate at a time that they
separate from the words of Torah, then
God forbid, that's when they come into
the possibility of a plague. Don't
separate yourself from learning Torah.
God forbid. And it says about this idea,
I don't know if you know salmon. They
always want to go back to where they
I don't know what the word spawned from.
Uh the Jewish people love locks. They
love salmon, but we're compared to a
fish. It says in Gmor on page 3B
that the Jewish people are compared to
fish.
separated from the water, they're going
to die. I mean, there are some
exceptions. They don't die right away or
but you know the idea is
the Jewish people, God forbid, if we
turn away from Torah, it says that we
are basically as good as debt. And it
also said in the verse, right?
negative where there shouldn't be a
plague amongst the Jewish people
elodes when the Jewish people approach
the holies part of the verse that's
referring back to when you are going to
the school that child is going to the
school so that's when you're approaching
a shem or approaching the holy temple
elodes that's referring to the bafer
and the are going to atone for them as
we mentioned above
if there won't be a plague
when they're on their way to the school
as if to say
God forbid that we should be running
away from God like a child who runs away
from his school like remember the bell
the final bell goes off and I don't know
it's not the end of the year. I'm saying
the end of the day, you know, you just
throw your pencils in your in your teak
and you run out. You can't wait to
leave. The problem with leaving, right,
because it says in the Gomorrah Shabas
116A
based on a perverse in numbers 10:35,
right? They traveled from the mountain
of the Lord. We traveled. when you go
just for example if you're running away
from God so they travel one day here in
this case they travel 3 days when you
travel away from the mount you travel
away from God so let's say it's a one
day's journey so you turn around and you
look back and you're two days journey I
mean you didn't there was no sad you
didn't miraculously get further what
happened was just like when you turn
away from God turns away from you. So
God says, "Look, you act towards me with
um randomness, I will act with you
towards randomness." When you approach
God, he approaches you. Right? There's a
whole question who who comes first. But
when you run away from God, it's like
he's moving simultaneously the same
distance, same time distance. So in
other words, if we move one day, you
turn around and you look, it's not that
you're one day distance from God. you're
two days because he also moved away. So
this is the beauty. The truth is the
beauty that he comes to us just like we
come to him. I just I skipped over one
little piece and I'll just read out
loud. Um the six pillars of the Jewish
world. So
if you want to look in just six pillars
of of Judaism, you have Torah, a vod and
those are the three main pillars. But
you also have three additional den, emis
and shalom. Uh Rabbi um Goldshire spoke
a little bit about some of these ideas
that that would be in Judaism if you
want to put together six pillars. But in
secular wisdom, there's a list. And if
you get involved in any of these, the
purpose is to know God is to serve God
is to use it to learn Torah. How can you
learn Torah without knowing math? How
can you learn Torah without knowing
anatomy or botany or astronomy? You need
all this. So this list uh logic and
grammar is one list is one of the
pillars meaning the discipline of
rigorous thought argument building and
language structural mastery. This is a
wisdom that we should know teach your
kids English teach your kids grammar
dict
mathematics specifically arithmetic
because another is geometry. So
arithmetic is just the discipline the
discipline of precise numerical
calculation and abstraction whereas
geometry is spatial discipline of
understanding structures and dimensions.
Of course astronomy which is really
physics is on this list. the study of
the cosmos, natural laws and the
physical universe. Music is one of the
disciplines uh of wisdom. Uh the
discipline of harmony, rhythm and
acoustic mathematical relationships.
That's music. And then what we're
interested in in mine, you know, my uh
little pet peeve is metaphysics,
philosophy, the study of existence, the
human soul, and psychology. There are
others that put uh the six branches of
manora into the six spherote. Um but
we'll leave it at that. This is just an
introduction. The kar actually this
essay goes on for about 15 pages. This
is only a page and a half but next year
we'll continue with the the rest of it.
Again, the irrig is not well publicized.
Like every bait midrash most likely has
a um what's it called? It's the
mikroscadolos. The mikroscodos in the
Ashkenazi versions anyway has the clear
well read. People quote him, but there's
other sarim like this the gubim that is
not really quoted that much. So, I'm
glad that we found the copy and we're
continuing on with other um other
spheres within the clear periphery.
Anyway, everyone have a great chabas, a
great summer, a great life, and we'll
see you next time.
You see your
birthday
tomorrow
