Rabbi Aaron Dovid Poston: From Royal Hebrew Slaves to Royal Israelite Servants

it's not even a full sheet so we're going to deal with some very nice deal with fundamental issues but this one could be really misunderstood in today's day and age do we have slaves we do I'm relook we have to admit that slavery has always been a problem and when the Torah says if you buy a Jewish slave so we're gonna discuss this idea fundamentally speaking that if you had a Jewish slave that you have to let him go you have to not just give him freedom you have to send him with a severance pay at the end okay it's an amazing concept now how did this person become a slave are you aware that you just stole this you have to pay back guy says I can't pay it back but we're talk about a significant amount of money because if it was it was a small amount of money could probably come up with the victim because I don't know what happens in debtors prison but as long as you're in prison you're not making much money and maybe that's how they set it up that slowly if you're there for 20 years you know your monthly wages will go to the person so eventually justice will be accomplished in 20 years right you're not gonna make $100,000 in a few few months here that happens immediately the guy will get his hundred thousand dollars back isn't that beautiful and what about the guy who is being sold you would say well what about the family so the family its buying him they're gonna get six years worth of service so I guess they felt that $100,000 was worth it and at the end they're going to give him severance they're gonna give him clothing and some spending money and a few animals perhaps right as the verse will see the verse so it's going to be a win for the for the person buying and obviously for the guy who was in in up the creek so to speak who stole the money or stole the the products and he didn't have but he's gonna be rehabilitated right he's gonna be with a nice Jewish family if that owner leaved the one who brought him the we call him the master it only has one
