and one of their favorite videos is an
old Israeli folk song and you know I
sang it as a kid when I was growing up
it's probably from the 50s I don't know
when it's from but it goes like this it
goes here tab if you could play
[Music]
it
[Music]
[Applause]

I I want it goes on and I want want to
cry just Jeremy do you want to cry too
watching that video it's just soet I
just want translate it for everyone
that's there going to you know my my
land of Israel is beautiful and Blossoms
birds chirping on every rooftop
heralding the holiday it doesn't rhyme
in English and so we have a house and we
have a tree in the land of Israel and
it's just so sweet and it's just so pure
and that's like all the Jewish people
want
we just want a tree and a house with a
bird that's chirping in the land of
Israel and then we're just surrounded
[Music]
by it's like crazy you know just such
sweet Simplicity and Purity and
preciousness filled with love and hope
and innocence you know and as we were
watching it I I just couldn't help but
contrast with what at this very moment
Hamas are showing their kids not just
some of them the entire Society in Gaza
every day for Generations here it
is
[Music]
k
I think that was actually taken from 12
15 years ago and I wouldn't be surprised
if some of those very kids were the ones
participating in October 7th and um and
you know you also see just like the
little baby programming Big Bird you
actually see big bird with a knife
saying to kill
Jews like that I got to get that video I
gotta find that video but there's so
many there's just no shortage such an
abundance because that's all they're
interested in that's all they can think
about that's all they can focus on
nothing else no building no birds
chirping no trees no rooftop singing
nothing all they want to do is Butcher
and murder and hack and kill and so if
we just like take
this take a a sobering dispassionate
step backwards and try to depersonalize
it for a second we can ask why right
that's not the hatred of a people that
want independence and that's not the
hatred of a people that are humiliated
by the check points that's always that
always got me we're in checkpoints all
the time you don't see me like ah
there's a line at this checkpoint I'm
going to go murder a kindergarten right
and the humiliation of the checkpoints
anyways there's there's a much deeper
hatred at play here and I think it's
critical that we look at what the sages
of Israel teach are among the spiritual
Roots because it goes back to Abraham
and it goes back to Ishmael and Isaac
and the jealousy and the resentment
there but it but it also goes you know
there there are other roots from which
this hatred comes and they teach us that
we can find the roots in this week's
Torah
portion says what is Mount Si this from
the T what is Mount Si the mountain that
brought enmity Sinai from sin enmity
upon the nations of the
world and this statement has really
profound implications so many people say
that this is that this is true because
the nations are jealous that Hashem gave
us the Torah and not them now now that
that never really sat so well with me
for a number of reasons particularly
considering the teaching that some that
on some Transcendent level we we learn
that all the nations were offered the
Torah but based on one reason or another
they refused they didn't want it the bin
didn't want to not steal the jihadist
didn't want to not murder there was
always someone that didn't want there
something didn't sit well with them on
some Transcendent level this wasn't
actually literally offered to them but
it was not compatible with them but they
were offered it on some spiritual level
others say it's because of the
implications the Torah brought to the
world through us that all of a sudden
there was a right and a wrong and a good
and a bad and they didn't want that they
wanted to be their own Gods and when
they received the law through us through
us bringing that into the world we
became the conscience of the world as
Hitler said and so there's truth to that
but but I believe that while there's you
know truth to all of that stuff the one
that speaks to my heart the most post is
from this week's Torah portion chapter
19 veres 5 and
6 now therefore if you'll obey my voice
indeed and keep my Covenant then you
shall be my own treasure among all the
peoples for all the Earth is mine and
you shall be to me a kingdom of priests
and a holy nation these are the words
which you shall speak to the people of
Israel and you shall be to me a kingdom
of priests and a holy nation we are
directed not only to receive the Torah
but to live it to implement it and when
we do then we are to be a kingdom of
priests and what's the biblical
understanding of the function of a
priest at the end of every Fellowship
that's what we say what what is it to be
an intermediary to be a conduit to be a
vessel of light and of blessing that is
our role in the cosmos that is our role
in the world that is the reason we were
created
