Why Isn’t God Mentioned At The Science Museum ?

A Torah Anytime original series. I'm standing here in front of a science museum and I figured I'd show you around. Let's go in and check it out. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Now imagine walking outside and this guy was running around. [music] Science museums like this one [music] showcase everything from dinosaur bones to mammoths to various types of ecology like beavers and [music] birds and the greater world around us which is truly fascinating [music] if you think about it which most people don't. That's why you need a science museum to showcase each and every one of the scientific [music] marvels of the world, which there are many. Ever walk into a glacier? Well, here [music] is a glacier. Large parts of the earth used to be covered [music] by glaciers until they slowly melted, giving the world billions of [music] gallons of fresh drinking water. [music] It's a little ironic, but in an age where [music] people seem to know everything, lots of people know nothing. Like there used to be something called mammoths and [music] dinosaurs and animals that roam this earth that nobody's [music] ever seen for thousands of years. Now [music] take a look at what people used to live in. If you have one inspiration [music] for thanking Hashem for your house that you live in and the comforts of it, take a look at [music] what they used to live in back in the day. That over there is a teepee, which is what many [music] people in this part of the world used to live in. Other people in hotter climates where you didn't need the protection of fur around you to keep out the heat because you're living in a desert. You made houses out of sand or dirt like this. One group of people I never really understood were the [music] Eskimos. They live in houses made out of snow. Take a look. [music] No. Why they didn't just take a bus to Miami? Not sure. [music] Now, here's the kicker. In this entire museum, there is not even one mention [music] of God. Now, you might say, "Okay, it's a science museum. Why would it mention God? And that's exactly [music] the problem. Even asking that question is ridiculous. How can you possibly showcase the world and all its wonders and all [music] its mind-blowing complexity without mentioning God even a single [music] time unless you are actively trying to blind people from the truth? A science museum is all about the what. What roamed the earth thousands of years ago? Mammoths. What powers the planets? energy fields. What's keeping things suspended in midair? Gravity. But it never asks the why. Why does it do that? Why is it like that? How did it get that way? Who designed it? Who set the laws in motion? These are questions even a three-year-old can ask. And science has no real answer. Scientists like to brag that the more science advances, the more God is disproven. But anyone with even half a brain, maybe even a quarter of a brain, knows that the opposite is true. A science museum is really the biggest, most obvious demonstration of Hashem's wonders. So why do so many people still [music] not believe? How do they honestly think that mountains and [music] dinosaurs and people and squirrels and flowers just randomly evolved? It makes no sense. And yet millions fall for it. [music] The answer comes famously from Raban Wasserman, and that is that [music] they don't actually believe that. It's silly. But here's the trap. They're afraid that believing in God means [music] living a restrictive, guilt-free life. They are afraid that if they believe in a creator of the world, they may have to follow his seemingly restrictive ways. So instead, [music] they convince themselves that cows evolved from rocks and alligators were [music] once worms and humans are just a random soup of cells. Now, here's the ironic part. The very thing that they fear, that lie that they were fed, arguably the greatest lie in all of human history, that life with Hashem is a restrictive one, is actually the greatest pleasure there is. Hashem isn't restrictive. He's the ultimate native. He wants us to experience pleasure, real deep pleasure. He originally put man into ganen, the garden of pleasure. And even today, the Tory, often called the most restrictive book in the world, teaches us to be an amouch, a people saturated with pleasure. The only difference is that our pleasure is an all-encompassing one. And while they only care about pleasure of the body, the Tyra ensures that we have pleasure of the body, [music] but pleasure as well of the mind and pleasure of the heart and pleasure of the spirit and pleasure of the emotions and pleasure of the soul. Because [music] that's what life with Hashem is. And the people who block him out, the ones who live like random cells floating through the universe, they are missing out on almost all of it. So yeah, atheism is out there spreading like wildfire. [music] But the Jews, we keep moving forward, bold, unstoppable, living with purpose, with joy, and with fire that no one else can touch. And while science museums around the world keep on selling tickets while the world marvels at so-called random world, [music] we the believers are standing here seeing the divine hand behind it all and tasting the pleasure the rest of the world will never know about.
