Our life is off-kilter. And that should
be enough for most of us to turn around
and say, "How come the world is the way
it is?" Even if not being killed on
Shemini Atzeret or dragged into
captivity, even if we're not suffering
all of the horrors and destructions, why
can't our lives be filled with happiness
and satisfaction?
Why do people have to worry whether
they're going to make a living? Or
illnesses, how many illnesses do we
encounter of people?
Terrible machlokes. And even if people
aren't suffering terrible machlokes,
what about the people suffering from
chronic pain? And on Tisha B'Av we say,
"Look at all of the suffering that's
going on in the world." And all of
that's for one reason, because there's
no Beit Hamikdash. Because when there's
a Beit Hamikdash, then the world is the
way it's supposed to be. And when it's
not, then the world is completely
off-kilter.
