it's a fundamental belief of Judaism
that after our time in this world we
move on to a time in a place called the
world to come we believe that when a
person leaves this world it is the time
for the body and the soul to prepare
themselves for their next journey as
they head towards the world to come in
order to do this the soul goes to a
special chamber to be with Hashem where
it cleanses itself and prepares itself
for the journey ahead the body also has
to prepare itself for that journey ahead
and we understand that journey starts by
disintegrating in the ground it's very
important then that a Jewish burial
involves a person being buried in the
ground in a way that the body can
disintegrate therefore Jews do not get
their bodies preserved and they also
don't get cremated Jewish burial is so
that my body can go back to the ground
and disintegrate to prepare itself for
the journey ahead
