Hi, this is David Alamovski with our
question and answer shorts. This
question was uh submitted by the hiliga
Rabbi Aon Friedler.
Many times you quote from paras
and you call it le with a under the
lammed of le. Why do you pronounce it
that way? There is a segle under the
lammed and not a se. The answer is
because I am sloppy and I have a comical
Long Island accent. That's why I
pronounce river with an a at the end
instead of an e r because that's just
the way I talk. I remember I was
teaching gamarra and I said the gumar
brings three sources and one of the guys
laughs and says mushroom, onion and
vegetable. I was like what? says it's
sources, not sources. [laughter]
So, it does remind me when I was diving
for the um for my father and uh somebody
left an anonymous uh note in my mailbox
and said, "They say you know how to
learn. So, I don't know why you don't
know how to davenin." And he emphasized
three things that I was doing in
davening.
One is inad
he felt I was saying it with a
instead of a comet
and then
um he again thought I was also doing a
shva instead of a comet and the other
one was something in in kadesh I have to
tell the truth
I am really shocked that anybody
listened to my doveting that closely.
I'm also shocked they only caught me on
three things, you know, because I had
made a lot of mistakes when I was
diving. This was a different minion I
had gone to but an earlier minion and
the person said you know it says in the
braos who established the three
of us did the fathers meaning establish
it or tikn or were they based on the
kabanos so he says to me that's
when your father dies you have to be
yeah so um I will not uh promise you
that I'm going to say correctly from
here on in, but I do appreciate you
putting it out. By the way, the correct
way uh everybody who learns garra, at
least in all my years of gamarra says
me, the correct pronunciation is me.
And uh if you you can pronounce it that
way, but uh but most people just say me.
Somebody once went to Rabosha Feinstein
and complained that the yeshiva guys
don't know any dick. They don't learn
dicta
looked at him and said, "You know, it's
really dict." [laughter]
Anyway, thank you for the shout out and
for the for the observation and I
appreciate you listening and I
appreciate you listening that closely
and uh and if that's the only mistake
that you have caught, my gosh, I'm doing
a lot better than I thought. And that's
it. Till next time, thank you very much
everybody. This is the Rabbi Olowski
question and answer shorts.
