Who Can Wake Up Moshiach? | Rabbi Michel Handelsman

The Pasuk says, And Yisroel said, Enough! My son Yosef is still alive. I will go and see him. The Torah says Yaakov Avinu was filled with joy that Yosef Hatzaddik is alive. I will go and see him. But the Torah adds on, I will go and see him before I die. What is the point of the ‘before I die’? The point is that Yaakov Avinu is now excited to go see his son, Yosef. What is the point of adding on the ‘before I die’? And I heard from my Rosh Yeshiva, R’ Shmuel Berenbaum z”l, he said a very wonderful thing. Yaakov Avinu, the chosen of the forefathers, the chariot for the Shechinah, with all his incredible levels, was worried that Yosef Hatzaddik, because of the great level, that he overcame the challenge in Egypt, in This World, he could still see him, but maybe in the World to Come he wouldn't be able to see him, because of the loftiness and the elevated level that Yosef Hatzaddik reached. I will go and see him before I die. In This World, I can see him. Who knows if in the World of Truth I'll be able to see the great Tzaddik, Yosef Hatzaddik. And the Rosh Yeshiva added, In the old times, there were important Bochurim, there were important Yidden, important Torah scholars. But the challenges of the American Bochurim are way greater than the challenges from before the war. And he said, What a Bochur sees today, one day in America, a whole lifetime one didn’t see that, before in the old times. Who knows if I'll be able to see the American Bochurim in the World to Come. And this is similar, the Mashgiach zt”l, R' Nosson Wachtfogel, said once a tale with a dream, that Moshiach was lying and sleeping and different Gedolei Yisroel tried to wake him up and he wouldn’t wake up. And then an American Yeshiva Bochur with a baseball cap came by and he woke up Moshiach. That is what brought Moshiach. Who knows if it's our challenges and our strength of overcoming challenges, with the Aibishter’s help, will hasten the coming of Moshiach, speedily in our days.
