[Music] what's amazing about montessori is instead of designing a classroom around individualization they start with the students and they build outward from there it's about student experience it's about each student coming into the classroom every day picking the activity being engaged with those things that excite them that are of interest to them one of the core principles of montessori education is an individualized approach to education so what this means is that the curriculum is completely set up to cater to each individual child in the classroom so our teachers do not teach to the full group the vast majority of the time we work at the child's skill level and each child has their own individualized plan due to the fact that children learn at different paces the social environment of montessori is unique because it has multi-age levels so students who are younger get used to the idea of viewing older students as their helpers students that can help them learn and understand their environment and students that are older have developed the derek eretz the the caring for the students who are younger they help them out they work together with them and they're proud of themselves that they can share the learning experiences that they already have mastered and transfer those skills on to others in the montessori classroom you will see hands-on multi-sensory materials set up on shelves in a logical sequence the different areas of the classroom are practical life sensorial language and cultural studies i think that the montessori kids are very well prepared for the future because montessori really puts a focus and a premium on learning life skills so it's about how to learn how to engage with your environment and how to have interactions with others prior to mont's story moving into aids claim my older boy was in the same montessori program at the bite and we just saw wonderful growth we started incorporating some montessori elements at home and we just saw growth in his love of learning and his independence so just seemed like a natural fit now that it moved over to its heim in a montessori classroom you will see an uninterrupted work cycle or activity cycle what you won't see is all children doing math for a 30-minute block time or language for a 30-minute block of time what children gain from having such an extended work cycle is that one they're able to do really very large works so to allow the child to focus and concentrate on that work only builds focus and concentration which children need to be able to sustain um you know being in a classroom environment for such long periods of time as they get older my older son is an independent learner for the most part he'll sit down either with a homici and just go through it himself or he'll sit down with with some of the works that we've either purchased ourselves or built and he'll work on them by himself at home in terms of his math proficiency he comes home proud that he knows you know all the squares from one to nine and uh very surprised that he could do multiplication in grade one so it's been wonderful many people think that children in a montessori classroom get complete freedom and they're able to do whatever they want to do in the classroom and that's actually not true the children have a lot of freedom they have freedom in what they choose to do how they choose it who they work with so for example a child could choose to start off by working in korea or they could work in math or they could work with shirashim cards or do english reading first but they have to choose something first and they have to choose something second and third and in between those times during our work cycle they can choose to have a break in the library or choose to have snack once they are out of the primary classroom in an elementary classroom they have a lot more responsibility towards their learning so we are building a love of learning by giving them choice in the classroom within a certain structure so that they will have responsibility towards their learning as they move into the elementary years [Music] you
