What it means to have a father

you know I think pretty much everyone is aware of the effects of not having a father in the home the data is widely available I'm not here to prove that point but we know that when there's not a father in the home this is a big challenge what people don't talk about I don't think is that an emotionally unavailable father who's physically in the home but who's emotionally checked out is basically on many levels the same thing so that's what I want to speak to you fathers I'm not speaking to the mothers right now I'm not trying to give ammunition to wives to complain to their husbands I'm speaking to us men I know it's hard but you got to show up for your kids and showing up for them can be as simple as just coming over to them and initiating a positive interaction positive interaction does not mean did you clean your room have you done your homework no a positive interaction means put your arm around their shoulder and you say how you doing that's it it's nice to see you and if you really want to go expert mode you could say hey let's go for a walk let's go out for dinner that's a really positive interaction but being emotionally connected being available being there to give your children boys and girls and each of them have a different benefit that they get from having the emotional presence of a father in their lives being there for your kids not just physically being present not just materially being present by paying bills but emotionally by offering a connection that is lifechanging
