recommend uh first of all I think art
scroll is a fantastic organization I've
said it many times over the years I
think that there are gift to the English
speaking uh uh people uh in this
generation and uh in general the Jewish
people uh they also have started doing
things in other languages as well or at
least more than in the past
even uh as far as
uh their their uh Scholars that they
have under their umbrella are fantastic
their translations are fantastic they do
great work uh they always remain true to
the to the toy itself they're very
serious people so as far as the
organization at large fantastic now as
far as specific products uh I think that
if you're going to go with let's say the
teachings of the tah itself the uh it's
better to get the uh uh for the sake of
learning it's better to get each book by
itself meaning the five books of Moses
should be the uh at the very least it
should be the stone Edition Kash uh you
know you shouldn't get the tanak uh and
which includes the Kash you should get
at the very least the stone Edition Kash
because that will have at least a little
bit of commentary if you can get uh some
of the things that have even more
commentary like the uh the Rashi that
they have uh or the anilos that they
have or some of the others that have
comment there it's even more but I would
say starting off with the kumash the
stone Edition Kash it's a uh you know
it's a great start this has been my best
friend for many many years I don't take
I don't go anywhere without him uh I
love him so much he's uh this is my
stone Edition I don't replace him I
don't betray him I don't uh I don't go
anywhere without him he's always with me
bu so without myash there's no your own
that's myash that's my now as far as the
other 20 the other uh uh 19 books of the
Tanakh yes I have a small Ed uh edition
of the tanak but this I use for lectures
most of the time uh especially when I
travel I go give lectures because to
carry so many different books if I'm
using multiple sources I I like to carry
my sources with me I don't like to take
I don't like just to rely on my notes I
like to carry the sources with me in
case somebody uh um asks a question they
want to see it in the book itself uh or
I simply the way I operate I like to
look I have to look I don't have like
prepared lectures uh so I look at the
ideas that I have uh or the different
things that I've highlighted and the
words come so it's a
it's so when I uh when I travel when I
go I you know I have my my tanak with me
and as you can see it has a little bit
of a little bit of um a little bit of
wear and tear for my all my little
footnotes and different pages and bem
may all of us Merit to continue do many
more of these so I have this but this is
not the only thing I have I also have
the each individual book each individual
book and some of them multiple different
versions I have the art scroll I have
some other uh uh Publishers uh you know
just in Hebrew and so on of the other
books uh why because this tanak version
is fantastic for the scripture itself
but it's not enough to learn from for
the commentary it has very very little
commentary usually just one a couple
different lines on the bottom that
specific specifically highlight you know
one or two points uh upstairs there it's
not cover it's not meant for studying
it's meant for review but for study
purposes you need something that has
much more commentary by Rashi uh ran uh
the you know all depends who who who you
want but uh you need a lot more
commentary for that you should get uh
the uh this this is a uh this is they
have a whole collection this is just one
of them there's a whole bunch of them
I'm not going to take all of them but
they have for sh one and two they have
one one one entire SE meaning this seph
is the same almost the same thickness as
the tanak but this is just the book of
this is just the book of so this Arch SC
has and each page is full full of
comment
uh so it's you could study a lot from it
uh and the same thing goes for Jeremiah
Ezekiel Proverbs uh Psalms and so on so
what I would recommend is going with
their uh first of all bigger size books
than the small one uh because it's
easier to read uh but also the
individual versions of each one of the
books uh cuz that way you'll have a lot
more to learn uh and believe me even
after you finish all of those you still
haven't even started there a lot more
that commentary out there uh in in
Hebrew uh and some in English as well uh
but that's fantastic foundation
fantastic uh thing to start with uh and
to learn over the years not to start
with uh it's for both uh you know new
students and old students Scholars I
know some me that have art scroll in
their houses and they me and sometimes
they'll study their regular sometimes
they'll study their AR depending on the
pace of their learning and if if they're
trying to reach certain metrics if
they're trying to do certain things uh
so point is is that uh for tanak
purposes for study individual books
individual books with more commentary
not too much meaning I wouldn't I
wouldn't
start uh with let's say mames that has
over 40
books uh because that is uh too much
commentary for you to be able to finish
the weekly parasa like the uh you know
each book is uh let's say less than a
handful of parot meaning it'll take you
a long time just to finish uh the the
five books of
Moses uh anyway the the M unfortunately
Ki uh didn't uh you know died in the
middle of writing it so the the
commentaries uh are uh you know shorter
and shorter as the years go on uh that
that were in by
other um but point being is that it's
still a huge set and it's it's good to
have in the house it's good to learn
from but as your weekly review Daily
Review uh daily learning I would say the
art scroll Set uh the Rashi set or the
uh uh the the the stone Edition they
have a few different things that uh the
classics go over there Classics those
are the classics go to the classics you
get yourself uh beautiful set over there
you'll have uh plenty plenty plenty of
work uh to do
and that you succeed doing it and many
of you do it many of you guys do it not
just the one person that asked the
question
