The Vilna Gaon says an amazing thing.
Sometimes people struggle
and they want to know,
what's my job in life?
Am I supposed to be a big Talmid Chacham?
Am I supposed to be a big Bal Chessed?
Am I supposed to be a big Tzadik?
Someone running around doing Kiruv Rechokim?
People struggle.
What's my purpose in life?
The Vilna Gaon writes that if a person
wants to know what his purpose in life is,
he should look at what's difficult for him.
Something that's difficult for you to do,
it means that's why you're here.
Ribono Shel Olam gives you adversity
because he wants you to overcome it.
And this is your purpose.
For most of us, we don't have to look
any further than Shmiras Einayim.
A person goes outside,
you go to work, you go to the store,
wherever you go,
you're constantly bombarded
with Shmiras Einayim.
The person on the highest level,
the lowest level, the greatest Tzadik,
the lowest person in Klal Yisroel,
we're all faced with this Nisayon.
There's nobody that's above this Nisayon.
And especially in today's generation,
the Nisayon is rampant, it’s prevalent.
So apparently this should teach us
that this is one of our main purposes, why we're here.
To be able to overcome Shmiras Einayim.
Yes, we learn and yes, we daven and
Baruch Hashem we are עוסק in many Mitzvos,
but if this is the Nisayon
that we're constantly busy with,
it should give us a moment
to stop and think,
why am I here?
This is my purpose.
And next time I'm faced with a Nisayon
Bezrat Hashem I'll have the כוח to pass it.
