there's a special meditation that people
don't realize
is embedded in the structure of shabbat
and that is kidus
kidus literally means to sanctify and
it's the mitzvah that we do
friday night and shabbat morning on a
cup of grape juice or wine
and the purpose of kiddush generally
people know is to sanctify
the day to make it acknowledge that it's
holy and that it's a different day of
the week which is very nice and true
however what people don't realize is
it's a special moment to
step back and go deep within and reflect
on a specific type of focus and
that focus is threefold so the first is
we as we mentioned to sanctify the day
to acknowledge this day of shabbat is a
different energy in a different
uh reality basically number two is that
we're actually
reminding ourselves consciously like a
meditation
in a meditation that the whole world is
created by a higher power there is a
divine source
running the show i'm not in charge i'm
not in control of everything
i i submit i humble myself and
acknowledge so in the middle of kiddush
when actually
someone is saying you're sankirush just
allow yourself to surrender to that fact
that there is actually a higher power
that created this world
it actually says you know created in six
days and rested on the seventh
and that i'm acknowledging that as well
for myself because we get we get
forgetful
and we think that we're in charge of
during our week when we're running
around and we're doing lots of important
things
and kiddush is a moment even once you're
in shabbat to step back
and just remember that point and the
third is even
more personal and more powerful which is
why do we make
kiddush on grape juice and wine why not
on beer or some other
alcohol or some other drink and that's
the idea that great a grape is one of
the
the seven holy species and the purpose
of a grape is actually not for the grape
for food but it's to make
the this beautiful grape juice or wine
that comes out of the grape as the
primary purpose
for that grape how do we know that
because the blessing on
wine and grape juice is a higher status
it's more important considered more
important than just the one on the grape
itself which is a fruit
blessing so we see that it moves up in
status when it turns into a liquid
so the purpose of a grape is to be grape
juice and wine
and we use it for kiddish to reflect on
ourselves and are we aligned with our
higher purpose
and the whole purpose of shabbat is to
step back and say am i living on track
or off track am i aligned with my higher
purpose
or am i forgetting that and i need to
regroup and reassess
so these are amazing kavanagh's
intentions
mindfulness that we can have
when whenever we're doing kirusha
whenever we're hearing kiddush to just
close your eyes and focus on
acknowledging shabbat is a different day
i acknowledge there's a higher power
running my world and created the world
and am i aligned with my higher purpose
and my on track or off track just like
the
grape juice shabbat shalom
you
