Another question we get all the time is what
bracha are pita chips? And the rule is like this,
once bread, always bread, except if you make it
not into bread. How do we do that? It's really
important to know what kind of pita chips you're
having. A great way to know is to call us up and
ask us. But the way it works is like this.
If the pita chips were made in little pieces,
they were never bread. They're Mezonot, and
you don't have to wash. If they were once bread
and they're baked, so they were pita chips just
cut into small pieces, the regular Hamotzi. If,
however, they're deep fried, and so
they're pitas in small pieces recooked,
they're no longer bread, and then they're
Mezonot. Just like all breads, baked pita chips,
if they are Hamotzi, so they're going to be
just a kezayit is all you need for benching.
