story. I told you last fellowship that
um I'd met these Amish people.
And it was in Texas.
And I've just I've been in contact with
them. They just tickle me in all the
right places. They're so special.
And I was meeting with one of the people
there, and he was telling me that a few
years ago they were on a horse and a
buggy.
And at some point they started asking
questions.
And they said, "You know, why can't we
get a tattoo?" Cuz Amish people don't
get tattoos.
And actually it's from this week's Torah
portion. If you open up um
Deuteronomy chapter 14 verses 1 and 2,
this is what it says.
You are children to Hashem your God.
You shall not cut yourselves, nor make
any baldness between your eyes for the
dead, for you're holy people unto Hashem
your God. And Hashem has chosen you to
be a treasured people unto himself from
all the peoples that are upon the face
of the earth. You're not allowed to cut
yourself. You're not allowed to pin
yourself with tattoos. You're not
allowed to do that. And they're like,
"Yeah, but in the same Deuteronomy it
tells us that we're not allowed to eat
pork.
Why do we have pork every morning? I
don't understand that. Like, why this
commandment and not that commandment?"
And it's sort of like started challenge.
Why are we on a horse and a buggy? They
start driving cars. They started not
eating pork. They started keeping
Shabbat with cuz it's in the 10
commandment that it's on the seventh
day. And they started just aligning
themselves with a truth that they can
hold on to. And really the only truth
that we can hold on to today
is the Tanakh. It's the only thing that
like everyone, Jew, Christian, it
doesn't matter, just the Tanakh is like
something that we can all hold on to cuz
it's the only book in the world that
actually says, "Thus says the Lord."
Everyone respects that. Everyone honors
that. And what's so amazing is that I'm
watching this prophecy from the book of
Jeremiah unfold. And it's Jeremiah
chapter 16 verse 19. And this chapter is
particularly something really remarkable
because it's seemingly contradictory.
Here's what it says, "O Lord, my
strength and my stronghold and my refuge
in the day on the day of my affliction."
"Unto you the nation shall come from the
ends of the earth and say it was all
falsehood that our fathers inherited,
futility that has no purpose."
And so Jeremiah chapter 16 says that a
day is going to come the nations are
going to come and say, "Listen, we've
just inherited all these falsehoods.
Like these are a new laws and new ideas.
Sabbath is on the Sunday. Why are we
doing that? It's just We didn't know any
better. That's just the way that my
parents taught me." And all of a sudden
they're starting to wake up to the lies
that they've been taught. And they're
saying, "I don't want to live a lie
anymore. I just want to align myself
with the truth. What's happening here?"
And so if you look at Isaiah chapter 43,
this is really marvelous.
Cuz I Isaiah chapter 43 says like this
to Israel,
"Israel, you are my witnesses," says the
Lord, "and my servant whom I have chosen
so that you may know and believe and
understand that I am he. Before me there
was no God formed neither shall there be
after me."
And so Israel
is the witness. That's what Isaiah calls
us. It's so the world will know
and believe and understand that he's
