October 7th did the pressure ratchet up how have you maintained that courage of your conviction to stay true and to continue could you tell us a little bit about what that's been like there's no issue on which I face more hate harassment and even death threats than on the issue of Israel it's put enormous strain not only on political but also personal relationships I'm no longer on speaking terms with a close family member of mine because her position on the issue is quite different from mine even my mother's been the target of harassment they were activists who said to my mother you're a genocide mother and you should have aborted your son and so the viciousness of the attacks on me and my family are hard to overstate but if you allow yourself to be bullied you're going to continue to be bullied that's one of the lessons that I learned from the Bronx and for me the greatest threat to the US Israel relationship the greatest threat to our liberal democracy does not come from the far right or from the far left it comes from the cowardice of a center that lives in fear of the extremes Franklin Roosevelt was exactly right when he said the only thing we have to fear is fear itself and I for one refus to live in fear
