We can disagree, but still UNDERSTAND each other.

I once had to debate a very famous American academic and I was the last minut of substitute and this guy was ready for red meat he was really ready to demolish Orthodoxy and Torah and everything else and the first thing I did was I acknowledged that a lot of his critique had validity but and that kind of absolutely radically changed the dynamic of the debate it was no longer hostile he began on his own to speak about the good point things that I didn't say oh you forgot to say here's something else good about Orthodoxy and good about Torah and the like because he was accepted there was a partial legitimation of what he was saying and then he became open to all sorts of things now I'm not suggesting this merely as a debater tactic although it happens to be a very good debator tactic but I'm suggesting it as a reality [Music]
