hey good day folks welcome back to
beyond the seven live from jerusalem
with rabbi
aaron david poston it's been such a joy
to get to know him this last year
uh this new class the 48 ways uh we just
started last week
if you missed it you can catch it on on
youtube
and uh facebook our facebook page but uh
more than that even this lesson he's
still got some review to do from the
from the first part so
don't think you missed out we're welcome
to uh glad to have you with us today
um but let's not uh delay let's jump
right in here where rabbi poston's got
to say it's always a joy to be with a
rabbi poston you're looking good sir
always good to hear from you and i'm
loving this new class
shabu tov dan and to all the listeners
subscribers watchers uh shavuot
this is uh best it's going to be a great
week
we have elections coming up we're not
going to talk about that at all tonight
and although i do want to mention
that we will review or let's say
supplement the rest of last week's class
towards the end of the class i mentioned
wow we ran out of time there's no way i
can cover all this material do it any
justice
so i feel that today as an introduction
uh
introduction or whatever you want to
call it let's say the first part
will be dealing with some of the sources
that i skipped last week so what i do
encourage everyone to do
if you missed last week's class go back
right and and check it out so that you
know why i'm bringing this
um these sources and what they're
relating to
now i also want to mention that the 48
ways is a very interesting idea because
i mentioned in the beginning
that this is when the israelites left
egypt and they're on their way to mount
zion in the revelation
right they're going to mount sinai to
receive the torah
this sounds and it on a certain level it
is true that it should only be for the
jews
because we're the only ones that
received the torah however the torah as
we know
is for all mankind on different levels
as we've discussed
in beyond the seven uh i just want to go
back to the idea why we call it beyond
the seven
there's two ways to look at beyond seven
either vertically
there's another six hundred and six
misses which
is not the way i i presented it but it's
beyond the seven
in other words take the seven and go
deeper
right and how i'll tie it into elections
i'm not going to talk about it
in in great length but as a ben noah
right as a human
as a person a citizen of the world so
if you're in america so you have an
option to participate
in choosing the not just the leader of
america
at least right now i know it's going to
be in a few weeks but the leader of the
free world
one of if not the most powerful man on
earth
and his entourage we'll call it the
cabinet and the
the government and and he gets to choose
right we if you didn't know this before
you know this now
he gets to choose the candidates for the
supreme court
so as a ben north knowing that one of
the seven north guidelines is to
establish a system of justice
you could participate in choosing
and i'm going to just say it briefly
yeah
the least corrupt right in other words
the better of two evils
okay always maybe you don't have someone
who is your
prince in shining armor you don't have
your candidate who is
uh ideal in every aspect perhaps i don't
know
maybe you do but at least minimally
choose the candidate
who is least corruptable or corrupted
and you'll have a chance of hopefully
you know from the grass roots you know
you still get to vote a city council or
whatever village you live in or a city
uh all the way up to a higher government
whether it's the count you know the city
the county
uh the state and of course on the
federal level
and so this is i think it's my personal
feeling
ben noah someone who's chosen this path
of torah
and and i mean the acceptance of the
revelation of mount sinai
even though you weren't there right we
were there
but you've ex we've discussed what the
different levels of beneno aha i'm not
going to go into it today
um but hopefully the type of
beneno ben nok that you are is the type
who has
accepted the revelation of mount sinai
they know the torah is true
they know there's a special mission for
the jews in terms of responsibility and
teaching this torah
and here you are listening so if you're
listening i'm going to assume
that you're interested in this material
um now i'm also going to assume and i
think rightfully so
that there are a lot of jews israelites
who listen to these broadcasts
there are ben noach who are already
considered
absolutely righteous and committed to
keeping the seven
laws there are probably those who are
i'm going to assume there are probably
some of these who have just
out of pure wisdom and
consciousness realize this is probably
the best way to
run society and there are probably some
that are thinking about converting to
judaism or
just wondering how true judaism is so
what we do
or what i do on this program is i share
jewish wisdom
okay you decide what level you want to
be on we're not proselytizing
we're not trying to say you should
become a girth
a complete 100 percent convert to
judaism
okay trust me we're not trying to say
that but if you do decide
there are plenty of resources available
to help you
and if you choose any of the other
levels again that's what
this particular station the no high
world center is all about
to help people who decide they want to
be benigno
and live a righteous lifestyle where
they're at and
yeah okay so as that idea i just wanted
to mention
last week we discussed the idea of
talmud right it's the first
of the 48 ways in in our
in our journey out of egypt out of
bondage
out of slavery out of blood i'm going to
blind we were blind we were
in sunk uh almost drowning in pollution
you know you go into a nice clean body
of water you can open your eyes
you can see where things are but if
you're in god forbid i don't know the
hudson river right
so try to imagine one of the most
polluted boxes of water in the world
you're going to hold your eyes tightly
uh sealed
so um this is listen we're all treading
water in in this world
and it's polluted so this rat hashem
through
not just my teachings through everything
the noahide world center is doing
it will help us let's stay deep cleanse
the water
help us open our eyes and see the truth
whatever part of the journey you're on
so i want to begin before we go into
number two i just want to tell you
number two is effective listening
so bizrat hashem right
we will get to that before the end of
tonight's broadcast
today's broadcast because we're gonna
label it number two
okay but as a uh a pre a pre uh like an
introduction
i wanna go back to what we spoke about
before so it happens to be in this
week's parsha
abraham is leklika is told to go
to go to eric's israel eretz israel the
land of israel
is a place that when you breathe the air
you one becomes wise that's what our
time teaches
us and there's a clarity
right he went from illusion and darkness
and falsehood and idol worship
to a land that even the flood did not
affect
because the flood by north had to be
like a mikvah
it it um purified the land that had
become
so corrupt but eretz israel never became
meaning the land itself never became
impure and therefore the flood the
floodwaters
never reached the land of israel that's
just a tidbit of information
and behind every tidbit of information
there's a spiritual truth
so avraham is told to leave this world
of illusion and come to
a world of clarity the word evri hebrew
right the word in hebrew for eve for
hebrew is ivory
which the root means to pass over so he
crossed over
from a not just physically from a land
right of darkness and illusion and idols
but he
crossed over um you know metaphysically
in a spiritual way he was a searcher he
this is what number one right number one
is called learning
learning is all about and he's like the
i'm not sure he is the but he's like the
paradigm example that we can all follow
in terms of wanting um the truth
and willing to sacrifice so much for it
and yet he wasn't a jew he was an ivory
right he would he was a hebrew and
that's what hebrew means
cross over to to to the truth
so he was a benoit right he was still a
in the category of benach before only by
the revelation
is there new now a born a newborn
firstborn uh chosen
son of of karosh baraku and that would
be
israel before we get to that he is told
in chapter 12 verse 9
he is told to move
to journey towards the south now
it's very nice it's in other words we
know that where he came from
in mesopotamia was pretty much just
east and he had to go over like the
what's called the
fertile crescent right right travel
not through the deserts but at least
through his populist
areas where he could survive and
uh populated areas uh fertile areas
and so he comes from the north and it
says continue to
continue to go south so let me just
quote the whole verse just we have an
idea we're talking about genesis chapter
and abraham abram traveled continually
traveling southward
very good why does the attorney need to
tell me this
so someone who is on a spiritual journey
is traveling in the southern direction
now there's a gemara the right the
talmud is
full of jewish wisdom and it tells us
that if you're interested in wisdom
you should pray in the direction of the
south now what does it mean in the
direction of the south
because we all know that we face the the
temple we
the very place in which man was created
which happens to be
we call the temple mount the evan
the the foundation stone right
by the way so people understand that
hashem
gathered i don't like the word to use
the word dirt
he gathered soil from the four corners
of the earth
and he formed man there and the very
place itself
we call the umbilical cord the navel of
the world which is the temple mount
that's where he took soil for the head
okay for the head of man and for the
rest of the body
why are people if we all come from one
person why are all kinds of people
different colors with different eye
shapes with different nose shapes right
not just color but there's also
different uh kinds of hair
you know what i'm saying all different
physical attributes
no matter where you are in the world
they seem to be different
and they are different and they're you
know um
what's the word there's you know groups
of these people in these areas
so we didn't come from many people we
came from one person
this is adam of one person one couple
adam and eve
who then had children now when you go
and we're dispersed
whenever you're living there is energy
from the land itself that will you know
resonate
on the dna resonate on the
characteristics and
over time i'm not going to call it
evolution i don't know what to call it
but
let's just say there's natural changes
that will occur based on the
energy from the land and will produce
different skin color different
attributes facial attributes and whatnot
so we're all brothers something we have
to know we're all
ultimately related but
again avraham traveled to the south and
how does the south represent wisdom why
why would the gomorrah tell us that if
someone is interested in becoming wise
they should pray to the south um
as i mentioned so we all pray in that
direction to the temple mount so
one the in the temple complex so you had
the holy of holies which was as far
west as possible on the mount and then
you had just east of that you had
we called the ulam or an area that was
much bigger
and more accessible and then you had the
rest of the courtyard but
this area called the holies not the holy
of holies but the holies
you had three
vessels okay so you had a candelabra the
menorah
you had the the altar a
incense altar and you had the showbread
table
okay where the breads were replaced
every friday miracle of miracles
every friday they would put on hot and
the following friday the conan would eat
them while they're still hot can you
imagine
uh fresh hot bread sitting on these
tables
after the days okay
so where were these placements what was
the placement of the candelabra versus
the table and first of all the table
represents
a kingship you know it's to show bread
there's this idea that the mashiach
would come from bethlehem
it doesn't mean that he himself is born
in bethlehem but he comes from king
david
who comes from bethlehem and the
idea of kingship is he's responsible
to provide the people with security and
food
not that we're not talking about
communism okay we're talking about
uh capitalism in fact uh the gemara
tells us that
many of the people almost daily would
come to king david wake him up in the
morning
four or five o'clock in the morning
before sunrise and say
feed us or help us with our pranasa help
us with our
welfare and he would say you do business
with you you do business with him he do
business with them
in other words it was all about um but
commerce but he was you know with a
brain
you know like uh you imagine like in an
army so you have the
the colonel the i guess the general
right he's gonna say where each person
should go so this is the
the king is responsible for the welfare
for the security
and to make sure that that money is
moving around
that produce and commerce which is
another thing you should have in mind
when you try to
consider who you're going to elect
as a candidate for the president okay
not that he's king
but that's the he's basically in that
role to a certain extent
so let's get back to the story what am i
saying here one second
so they came to king david and that was
the responsibility of the king
okay fine so that's show why beit lechem
because it means the house of bread the
bread is that which sustains you
right so so the showbread table
is representative of physical
substance sustenance what does the
candelabra represent
that represents wisdom the olive oil the
light
right the torah is called light or torah
aura in aramaic it's
light we have many verses that describe
it that way
where was the candelabra it was in the
south
of the temple complex and therefore when
it says to dive into the south to pray
to the south doesn't mean
turn yourself direction of the south it
means you're facing whatever
your whatever direction you're facing
whether it's to east or west
to just move a little bit lean a little
bit to the south
and to point yourself towards the
candelabra when you pray that's
absolutely mind-boggling because we're
talking about
remember talmud really means searching
for the truth
going deep trying to understand what the
principles
are behind even the most superficial
statements
in the torah or in the talmud
any anything you hear you want to know
the principles so basically
talking about jewish law you want to go
deep and down
and and get the principles
so i want to just show you because we
talked about the idea that in the future
all people on the planet right in
sophanya
will speak a lishna a
um a clear language we understand that
to be
lashan hakodesh the holy tongue now does
it mean
that everyone would know every word and
speak
hebrew like no not necessarily
it could be but at least minimally they
will understand the nature of god the
true god of israel
and the same language that we are using
of who hashem is we will know the name
and everyone
will recognize the name of the channel
so as just
as some of those who have watched my
videos know i love
crews sources and
maybe they seem to be a little bit on
the kabbalistic side i don't know
but uh this is from the benich high
this is from the daniel da and he
explains nakamura
discusses the idea of praying to the
south now before we get there
there's an interesting verse about
praying to the south
in other words king solomon was asked
you know what do you want
wisdom or riches you know and he chose
wisdom
and as a result he also got riches in
other words i'm sorry did i say wisdom
yeah
so he chose wisdom and as a result he
also
got wealth so let me see if i can find
a verse here it is so in proverbs
3 verse 16
even though there's a discussion in the
gomorrah that describes you should face
south the suppose for if you're
interested in in
wisdom and to the north if you're
interested in wealth meaning towards the
table
so there's a ruby shrub and levy says no
you should always face south
remember we started this discussion
avraham traveled continuously
south that means forever anybody who
wants to be
a student of avraham should
search for wisdom right that doesn't
mean travel south like
you know after you retire go to florida
right
arizona or california from where i'm at
mexico
right uh right and then all those
areas now they have in arizona and who
knows what anyway so there's a verse in
the proverbs 3 16
he says rabbi shub and levy says one
should always
face south as once he becomes wise
he will subsequently become wealthy as
well
similar to what we see happening with
king solomon and it says
the the length of days which really
could mean
eternity only through wisdom you're
going to do reach it on the right so the
length of days is in her right hand
bismala to the left is oyster recover
is wealth and honor so keep in mind
we're going to be dealing with
north south we're also dealing with
right and left
so most of us even like in jerusalem if
you know how
geographically the temple mount is it's
as far east of the city as you can get
and therefore the populace of jerusalem
itself
is basically in the west the west like
the western wall right the west
so they're praying in that direction
and therefore south is to the right
and north is to the left keeping that in
mind i'll now
explain what the ben yoda explains and
i'm going to do it
not in the hebrew because it would just
take way too long
he says if someone is searching for
spiritual
growth you need role models of course
you need to look up to people who are
greater than you
and by doing that as a result you will
realize
how much you're lacking okay because
humility or
i'm going to use a hebrew word now lima
to
minimize yourself to make yourself small
is very important when it comes to
spiritual matters
so you make yourself small when it comes
to spiritual matters and you have
other people to look up to let's use
avraham as example
in which to to want to grow towards what
about
physical sustenance so let's say no
matter where you are on the status
on the spectrum of wealth doesn't matter
whether you're a billionaire or you're
living a paycheck to paycheck or
you're out of a job for the moment
whatever you have
you must look at people who are less
than you
not to make fun of them god forbid or
not to degrade them but only in order to
make yourself feel better
to because the ultimate goal is to be
the same
to have a certain joy and
gratitude for what you do have and in
order to
i think i mean this is at least my
experience and
i think psychologists would probably say
the same thing not that i'm a
psychologist but i think they would say
the same thing
okay so if you look at someone who's
less fortunate to you
than you you will come with a certain
sense you should have a certain sense of
well you know but for the grace go i
right but for the grace of god go i
mean at least a sense of this
i'm satisfied with what i have because
if i
wasn't i'd have less and i'd be in a
worse position
so what did we see so far that when it
comes to
what to spiritual matters you make
yourself
miat smaller however when it comes to
physical you actually should make
yourself feel
a little bit more okay and okay so
having that in mind the idea of
a lathe the lathe is lava bet it's the
heart and the heart is which
has desires and it's also lamibat even
though we're dealing with the 48 ways to
wisdom
okay even though we're dealing with the
40 there's another concept called
well that's 48 waves true wisdom right
of wisdom sorry yeah two wisdom there's
called the 32
paths to wisdom okay maybe when we
finish the 48 ways
we'll doubt we'll deal with the 32 paths
to wisdom okay in the meantime let's not
jump ahead of myself
so you have the word lathe lamid bet
okay
now when we talk about what is above and
what is below
you can use that in a paragraph right
what is above means what i've already
read and what is below is what i have
yet to read
i'm about to read also when you take the
alphabet
so we we read from right to left so if
you read certain letters
so what is before what is above is what
you have already read if you're reading
it in order
or what is below is what is not yet read
that's also true
also when we at least in the western
hemisphere and
most of you shalom they would read the
torah it would be facing east
okay you're facing the east so
uh what is to the right is actually to
the south and what is to the left is
actually north
i've already described that idea okay
now so take the word
bet which is heart what are the letters
that come right before the lamin and
right before
the bet so an aleph comes before a bet
and a man comes before the lamin
i'm sorry a cuff comes before the lamin
okay so the word is
a exclusionary word it's to exclude it's
to
my eight it's to minimize okay to
exclude things is to minimize and so
to the right or what is above
laminbet is minimization which we
already described when you're looking
for spiritual ideas
you should minimize yourself to the left
or to the north
is of laminbed is a gimmel gimbal comes
after bet
and the mem comes after lamid gum
god means also in addition to it's a
concept of
making yourself greater so when it comes
to
physical wealth which is to the left
which is to the north
which is right is the opposite is is
what we've already described is making
yourself uh bigger
just another idea there's a verse
that which is in heaven above and which
is in the earth below so this also
it hints to the idea that which is in
heaven that's spiritual matters that's
above
above meaning prior to the right and
that which is in heaven below
which i'm sorry the earth below that is
hinting to the idea of physical matters
because the earth is physical
and that is below meaning to the left
okay
so with that i think that's a really
cool
idea okay beautiful
you know i mentioned that last week i
didn't cover
a lot of the material and i feel
i did a lot of work it's not for me i
think it's for you guys
to hear this so i'm going to talk about
a few different gemaras that we
it's full of jewish wisdom and jewish
wisdom
can be right accepted as wisdom
by the the by the world it's up to you
right i know that it's everlasting
i know that it applies in
every case that i ever come across the
jewish wisdom that i glean
from not just the torah but the orator
right the the whole
the whole thing not only guides my life
but i don't see why you cannot
guide a non-jew right again we're
talking about the seven right
beyond the seven is not about accepting
necessarily
additional mixes although we don't
prevent you from doing it
we're talking about going deeper and
deeper into what you already are
obligated in
which is the seven principles which
could be 70 89 it depends who you ask
quite a handful quite a list which we
did go through in the beginning
of beyond the seven okay so without any
further ado let's
see gamora in i'm going to start with
the sanhedrin gemara
so we're going to deal with if you want
to put up on safari on
it is on in sanhedrin the talmud bavli
99 a that's the first one we'll deal
with
bishop so one of the rabbis said call
torah anyone who learns torah they
necessarily and he doesn't
review he doesn't i'm not going to use
the word regurgitate that
that's not a nice word but in a certain
sense to recycle
right to constantly review and go over
what you've learned
you're doing the inner coits there it's
like a person who
sees his field right that's what i guess
it's the word sowing the field
you you you made the trenches or
whatever they called the tr
whatever they're called
you made a lot of effort it's true but
now it's time to harvest
and you do not harvest that's what it's
like
if you have learned and you don't review
your learning
it's like you seeded the field and you
didn't
harvest now there's a second opinion
yeshua as opposed to a bishop and
karcher
there's also rabbi yeshua who says and
this is a little bit
um not pc but it is what it is
anyone who learns torah and forgets
he's similar to a woman that gives birth
and buries her child
this is very harsh so that's
that's how harsh it is you imagine you
did all this learning and then you
you forgot it why did you forget it so i
want to go into some of the explanations
before i go further because ruby kiva
is very interesting as well you know
what i'll tell you what ruby kevin says
rabbi kiva says sing
every day sing every day
okay we're going to talk about these
three great rabbis and we're going to go
into a little bit more explanation
so the first idea that yeshua and karka
said
that when you you you plant but you
don't harvest
so there is no real
damage or pain to the physical body
and it's also possible for other people
to benefit because they'll harvest it
right you didn't harvest it so they'll
harvest at least doesn't go to waste
but it's not in your pocket you as the
farmer did not
gain from all the profits someone else
at least
ate what was there however
the second opinion where we talked about
someone who gave birth and buried the
child
so when someone gives birth this is much
worse this is more severe
because the person who gave birth
experienced a lot of pain
now we don't know for sure you and i dan
and many
men listening but we've been told right
i think there was a carol burnett i
don't know if anybody even knows who she
is anymore but she gives birth
as because she wanted men to understand
what
what would it feel like so i i think
it's been a long time
that she said it's like pulling your
upper lip over your
face and pulling it behind you you know
behind your head
um okay her own special way she could
explain it better than others i'm sure
so unfortunately the second example is
where there's a lot of physical pain the
first case there wasn't a lot of
physical pain
and the first case at least other people
can benefit from the seeds
from the the harvesting but in this case
there's nobody to adopt the child has
passed on
is buried so there's no there's nobody
else who's going to
let's see benefit raising a child
so too this is like somebody who learns
but doesn't review
they have the tsar they have the pain of
that first learning
so you open up a book look at least
hebrew is quite difficult but i can
imagine even
just to get the ideas in english
these ideas are not always comfortable
ideas they sometimes go against the
society that we're in
but nevertheless scripture is full of
ideas that you have to wrestle with
right even yaakov
oh sorry yaakov is called israel
because he wrestled with god and
won to when you see jews
who you know maybe they're not so
observant they remember the holocaust
they're struggling with god that's not a
bad thing
this is who israel is you know you put
three jews in a room you got five
opinions i don't know if you heard this
it's
not a good joke but it may be true you
put a bunch of jews in a room and
you're going to have everyone has their
own opinion it's
okay so the the idea is just struggling
over the idea just to get it the first
time
okay and not only not only that
we're talking about the second opinion
ruby yeshua where he talks about the
giving birth and then
having to bury the child so you do
experience pain when you're trying to
get it the first time
and then because you forgot it there's
you don't have anybody who's going to
benefit
from the delicious words of wisdom you
could share
and that would be well that would be a
real shame okay
that's the that's one idea so i'm just
trying to bring this down
to like you know palatable examples or
uh understanding another idea of ruby
should be
so he's dealing with someone who still
didn't forget remember the first case
is he just didn't review but he didn't
yet forget like
the the corn is standing in the field he
just didn't cut it down
so he still didn't forget but
if he would re if he would do review
then he could remember and this is like
someone who still didn't cut down their
their the the grains in the field
but he is still able to do it so the
first case
sounds like he didn't forget he's just
in review and there's a remedy
so new get with the program do you
review
and rub yeshua who's the second case who
gave the case likely
the woman who gave birth is someone who
already forgot
his learning because he didn't do the
review
and that is like a woman who gave birth
and buried her child
that there's no more ability to bring
this child back to life it's finished
so what we're seeing is the importance
of review in other words so we saw
tom would last week the first thing is
the desire for
information the desire for the truth the
desire
you know to open the heart and and see
what really it
really matters and what's really
important okay that's the desire
but what do you do with it you know once
you hear it you have to review it
and you see the the jewish wisdom here
ruby kiva was the one who said sing
every day sing every day
now there's a little bit of a problem
because how can you call it a song
the torah is is called a song but not
necessarily a zemer
as emre somehow cheapens the idea
and there is an answer to that if you
would ask
and that is really it's like a mashallah
and we're gonna
i'm not a singer right and maybe that
maybe it'll prove to me even more
right like i don't know about these
karaoke
what is that thing when you go up on
stage
karaoke so you see the words but it's
not just the words there's a whole
you have to stay in tune you know what i
mean you gotta carry a picture
of the rhythm yeah maybe if the song is
so loud nobody can hear you mess up
or if everyone else in the audience is
singing too so then you're not so
embarrassed right if everyone like
pitches in
so like you then you can follow i'm like
a follower when it comes to singing
i i think i sing okay as a follower if
you asked me to lead a song well watch
out
okay i not very good at that
wow me no i tried out for the glee club
in in um in elementary school they told
me not to come back
right he said
say save your time don't waste your time
okay
so the idea is like a mash-up means an
analogy
like a singer who he's just so happy
with the song that he created or
produced or
knows and can go up on a karaoke stage
karaoke
and and wing it you know so too with the
torah is
not that it's a song but that it should
be like a song in your mouth that you
just love to sing over and over and over
again
that's what it's that's what it should
be
now ruby gitzoff
says like what this is the amazing thing
about
the altar they make these broad
statements and then all of a sudden so
no where'd you come up with this like
what's source
now the source doesn't have to be in the
five books of moses i discussed this
before
there's nothing new in the nac in the
in the prophets and the writings so a
lot of the verses the gomorrah brings
out
as proofs for these principles are found
in the
in the prophets and writings which means
that it's really a torah principle right
it's in scripture but it's not because
there's a new revelation
there was one revelation everything took
place in those 40 years in the desert
that was the big yeshiva 40 years and
the prophets come to rebuke to remind
you of what you should have known
and always did know and need to get back
on the bandwagon
and behave properly they never reveal
anything new because there is nothing
new to reveal everything was given
at harshinai and that's what a uh ben
should also be a cognizant of and
unaware of so there's a verse in
michele that's proverbs 16 27.
1627 says like this and maybe it's 26
all right it's fif it's 1626.
the soul of the
for his mouth presses upon him
now in he in english i don't know if you
would pick up the nuances
but in hebrew it's nefesh amal the soul
that toils
that toil will toil for him
it's like um i don't know in in terms of
investments there's
truly a certain word uh you invest x
amount and then you can let it ride for
a while
and it's um goes to work for you
there you go it's making money for you
the money that you invest is making
money for you
i'm sure there's a more sophisticated
word um
but the re the rest of the verse is ki
which means like this we said um
a cough has to do like either a saddle
or a pressure
the pressure upon him upon his mouth
so what does that mean what does that do
with the mouth and what is this word of
cough
so one of the other gamers we're going
to learn is that it's important to
review how many times
we're going to see one opinion minimum
24 times
based on the 24 books of the bible we're
going to see one opinion is 40 times
because of the 40 days that moses was on
harsinai
but the main prevailing opinion which is
a little hard to swallow
is 101 times okay imagine that
this word akaf is the gematria of a
hundred and one
the word pihu is also gamachi of 101.
so if you if the soul
toils in the torah the toiling itself
will work for him in the world to come
right even non-jews go to the world to
come
not because they study torah but because
they keep the seven misses
but this is for anybody that decides
remember we discussed this idea in the
laws of rambam
hilka the laws of the sabbatical years
and the jubilee
that any non-jew could
accept upon himself not as an obligation
but as a
choice to dedicate dedicate themselves
to learning more torah and and why not
so
okay so let's just keep to the verse as
king solomon in his wisdom
right about the soul that toils in torah
the toiling will
work for him in the world to come it's
talking about the world to come and the
akaf the pressure
that's the 101 which is upon him which
is upon his mouth
to repeat it to go over it 101 times
and i think
we'll because of time we're going to
skip some that because it's not as
relevant
it's interesting and maybe we'll cover
it another time
i want to go to the next piece okay so
this you'll find in gamora ha giga
9b this
person his name is heihei
actually bar hey hey he said to hitler
why is he called hey hey
he happens to be a convert
actually he's been hey hey his parents
were converts
and mentioned his aguero but because
sarah
there was a hay added to her name and
avraham
there was a hay at it anybody who
converts
becomes at least a spiritual heir
of abraham and will even say physical
right they are actually we don't refer
them any longer
to who their gentile parents were but
they are
adopted into the jewish people they're
grafted in if that's when
when you call it i don't know if that's
a good word but they become full-fledged
jews
but they are called the sons of abraham
and sarah
when they're called out publicly uh at
least the man to the torah a woman
when she gets married right this is who
she is she's the she's the daughter of
sarah and abraham
so hey hey so this person asks hillel
and there's a verse in
it's malachi chapter 3 verse 18.
you want to read it gotta find it here
one second
malachi what three yeah chapter three
the last chapter verse 18.
what happened i just had it
malachi
while you're looking it up before you
just read it i did forget i think it's
in sanhedrin this is why i wanted to do
the sanhedrin first
because of a very interesting comment
and i think it's important to read for
the listeners especially uh
is this right yeah i have a treme
just because of uh time i'm actually
going to skip a lot but there's one
important information piece of
the um the comments in the back want to
know
what is the difference between an
israelite and an akuma
so an akuma is not necessarily a ben
noah
could be in between a jew and an akuma
but what's the difference
when we say that about
toiling in the torah and reviewing your
your learning
so i think it's just apropos i think
it's you know i'm not afraid to share
these uh
these sources um
so the banish kai happens to be saying
uh rebecca oh this you know what this is
even again
you know that's why i skipped it because
i didn't even um
ah so that means i have to go back and
actually go to that piece i skipped
it's kind of important so let's do it so
says
rabi eliezer kol adam
la ama nivra so it says
in job chapter 5 verse 7
that every man was created for the sake
of what of toil
it says in chapter 5 verse 7
right that man was created was born
to toil so the question the more opposed
is toil in what
in your day is
okay toil and what toil in physical
labor or toil like in torah in things of
the mouth
well let's just use it as the mouth not
not yet torah because there's two kinds
of things you can use your mouth for
you can use your mouth the first of the
humor says it was for your mouth okay
let's go with that
because of our verse we just read allah
because of the pressure or the akaf
which is the saddle
which is 101 on the mouth which you
already said is also 101.
so that was already the gomorrah's
answer it's definitely for the mouth but
the gamora still wants to know
so now that we know that it was for the
sake of
toiling of the mouth i still don't know
if it's for the words of
torah or for the words of
simple talk right like what's
what i understand man is different than
all the other animals what what
differentiates us from all the other
animals
dibor speech so if man was created to
tutorial was it for torah
or for idol talk
so the good answers
it says in joshua joshua 1
chapter 8. it says
it should not be removed right what
shouldn't be removed the safer torah
the words of the torah from your mouth
and that answer the reason we were
created
was for the mouth to speak torah
so now i'm going to read the comment
here by the benicio discusses this idea
when it says by um
here it says
so queens ruby the man was only created
to toil in the torah it was only said
concerning the jewish
people they were created tutorial in the
torah
and by this if you want to look up now
the malachi verse in
uh isaiah 54 13.
do you still want me to keep malachi 3
up
well yeah we'll get to it eventually
yeah sure but isaiah 54
13. if you want me to read it i can do
it it's going to take me a second to
pull it up on another tab
prophets isaiah
isaiah 53 54
13 54
14. third says
and all your children shall be disciples
of the lord and your children's peace
shall increase now the word
for children is
which means your children but we have
moral torah we have
um remember we were there mount sinai
right
how to say words and what not even those
later on remember
isaiah cannot say anything new right so
he says
understand it don't read it as bonaire
as your children
but as bonaiike as your builders
so what does it mean your builders
listen to what he says
he says like this
that this is referring to the jewish
people that they should be toiling in
tara
because through them their children
build spiritual
homes spiritual buildings remember the
jewish people are the priesthood so
we're
we're building spiritual buildings as it
says
and this is the verse you just quoted
but the gomorrah tells us don't read it
as your children but as your builders
that through the breath of the mouth
the spiritual breath of the mouth
because it's ethereal right you don't
have a physical breath it's
i mean i feel it but it's it's invisible
it's there
that through the heavel of their mouth
through the breath of their mouth
they are building these spiritual
buildings
but when it comes to the akum which may
or may not mean
albany north but basically the
amal they were created to toil in
the physical world and through this
they they're building real physical
buildings in this world
and this is hinted in a verse now the
verse is in chat
in genesis chapter 27 verse 22
which says a ko yaakov of the daimy de
asa
right when when yaakov comes before
yitzhak for his
blessing he turns around even though
yaakov had this garment right but he
spoke
so isaac says one second this is the
voice the coal
we're talking about the mouth again the
the heaven the breath
the words of torah this is the kolko
yakov this is the voice of yaakov
but the hands the adayam the physical
building of the structure of this world
is in the hands of aesop
that the banay is trial our job
is to toil in a spiritual building
and um how through the hearing
of the voice of torah through the mouth
whereas asap
his job is to toil in
building the physical structures of this
world
okay i have to be fair this is the
source okay now we're going to the next
gemara
in highgiga chapter of
page 9b okay i think we did that
we spoke about hey hey really okay we
didn't really get into it we only
started the beginning
so this is in malachi chapter 3 verse
18.
here we are verse 18 reads and you shall
read
return and discern between the righteous
and the wicked
between him who serves god and him who
has not served him
so this is very interesting because the
shabtim you will return
where he eats him and you will see you
when c is perceived you'll be able to
distinguish the difference
between a tsavik and a russia okay that
sadiq is righteous
hashem the whole world we should be
righteous but
it's not and then between the the tsarik
and the russia russia
being evil and then it goes on it says
elohim between those who are true
servants of god
of um and those who do not serve god
so the governor begins by explaining
i understand sadiq
that must be equivalent to those who
serve hashem
and what about the the evil people that
must be those who do not serve hashem
simple that you see the the the
beginning of the verse
and the end of the verse you just
parallel the the sadiq with those who
serve hashem
and the evil who do not service him
so i'm relying so hilo says back to hey
i'll do low after
the idea of those who serve and those
who don't serve
according to him they're they're
actually both
they're both completely righteous well
how can that be so in other words he's
disagreeing
with our supposition that sadiq means
those who serve hashem
and the russia is one who does not serve
hashem
he's reading it differently he's saying
no yet sadiq and russia that's fine
but when it comes to whether those who
serve hashem and don't serve hashem
they're completely righteous you should
say okay i'm turning this off
how can rabbi post and say such a thing
well i'm just looking at gomorrah
so we're going to go on don't worry put
on your seatbelts
he says the difference is one who it's
you cannot compare
someone who learns a hundred times
to someone who learns a hundred and one
times
remember how i immediately i said
there's gonna be different opinions
we're going to see it here
whether it's 24 times 40 times 101 times
how many times should you review in
order to retain
uh your your learning so
why is that one time going to make a
difference right you're saying
if you only learn a hundred times you're
not serving hashem
so the basically it's like you're
serving yourself
but if you do that one extra you go that
extra mile you do that one more
then you're a true servant of hashem
you're still
you're still righteous in both cases but
it makes a difference whether you're
actually serving hashem or not serving
hashem
if you're going to go that extra mile
and so there's a few examples that more
actually gives and the commentaries give
now i don't know how it works in your
city if you take a cab
but you get in the meter's already
starting at 10 you know
10 or 10 shekels or 10 something or
other
and every mile you go it keeps going on
and on and on
but that's like an electric meter but
what if you decide you're going to go
and
rent a donkey the donkey
i'm talking about the old days of course
i don't know if they do this today you
rent a donkey and he's basically
good good to go for 10 miles a day so it
cost you
let's just say uh one dollar
one dollar to rent a donkey so you can
use them five miles up five miles back
he really can't handle more than that
ten mile stretch
but let's say you went and negotiated
said look i really need him
for 11 miles so the donkey
um i guess you call him the salesman or
the rental agency he says fine you need
them for 11 miles
it's two dollars in other words
there's a quantum leap in price
for one mile does it make sense for 10
miles it's only one dollar it's like 10
cents a mile
right by doing my math right and all of
a sudden
that other quarter of a mile that other
mile
should have been 10 more cents a dollar
but no that's how that's how it works
that's how the world works
so imagine now when you it is true
you're supposed to learn 100
minimum but that 101 is going to make
all the difference in the world
in terms of you being a true servant of
hashem
now there is a lot of grammatical going
on here and we're going to hope to get
to it
but the word
if you take the iron the aleph and the
laminate of those three words
it comes out to a hundred and one
the word lo of though
whereas the person who is not serving
hashem
is um is only a hundred lamin
is one hundred so you see the words
themselves the one who serves hashem
it's the iron of oid the aleph eloquem
and the following lamid
of la sher is a hundred
and one so the one who serves hashem the
gamache of the reishi tables comes out
to 101
and the one who does not serve hashem is
just the llamad in the iron of lo aldo
is just a hundred alone
but there's some really good stuff and i
oh wow we begin
so much stuff here i promised that we
would take
on number two of of uh effective
listening
so bazrat hashem but this is just too
beautiful to skip
the um the comments in the back of the
gamora explain
the names of the different angels
there's an angel over forgetfulness
and there's an angel over remembering
your torah
let's start with job job chapter 28
verse 12. it says
if you want to read it
job 28
verse 12. verse 12 says but wisdom
hence will it be found and where is the
place of understanding
so you have to understand this is much
deeper that if you read it in english
you're just missing so much but i'm sure
it means a lot to a lot of people in
english
in hebrew
and the wisdom there's this word means
from where
is it found wisdom where is it found the
word
i am is 101. you want to know where it's
found
in uh reviewing it 101 times
it's gorgeous so delicious
now the balatorium explains from a
different verse
in chapter in exodus chapter 32 verse
34.
you have it exodus 32
34.
34 reads and now go
lead the people to the place of which i
have spoken to you
behold my angel will go before you okay
behold my angel will go before you
the word for angel is
so the word my angel
is one times is 101.
the word the the word yelech is
because a yud is a hey to hey so
in other words basically the is
to review 101 times
this hints to what cause i'll say here
uh that we already mentioned
now the pasik the verse itself and he
basically explains the same thing we
said before now
i just want to skip down and
he says that there's a hint to the word
zachar
zeker the word zakar zion
which means to remember that word means
to remember
the gematria of remembering
is 227.
it happens to also be let's just say
like this is 227.
the word for which is to forget
that's 328. so minus
try to do this math for me subtract
220 sorry 227
from at 328
what do you come up with
28 minus 227 is 101.
101. so the difference between
forgetting and remembering
the difference is 101. how's that
guys if you want to remember your torah
you will review it
and you will review it as i said
either 24 times 24 times
represents the the um the the the number
of books in the scripture
the 40 represents the 40 days that moses
was in the higher senate
and so i'm not gonna have time to go
through all of it
i'm gonna i'm gonna get i have to get to
effective listening but there's another
gemara i do wanna
so i'm just skipping a lot of the uh the
the notes
the gemara here is in tainus you're more
in taint
says luckish if you see a talmud if you
see like a sage
somebody a student that his learning
is difficult upon him like barzel
so barzel is something like it's raw
steel we're talking about where it
doesn't
absorb and it doesn't spit out but
said the claim here is why is it
difficult
because his learning is not
uh fluid it's not organized in his mouth
and there's a verse that says the who lo
punning you'll find this in
ecclesiastes chapter 10
verse 10.
it says yeah you want to read it uh yeah
i'm just pulling up 10
verse 10.
if the iron is dull and he did not
sharpen the edge it still strengthens
the armies but wisdom
has a greater advantage
so i'm not sure if that's exactly where
the hula punim kill cal
in the hebrew so that idea is
like this i want to try to um
because it's actually a longer verse so
yeah we've you probably read it
and the who
low if he is not holding like
in the hebrew makes more sense who lo
he's not there it's because the puni
must kill cow
punim can mean surface or can mean face
so the surface
in this sense means he only
superficially learned
and it's ruined or his teacher
the teacher the teacher himself did not
have a pandemious
was not um had a didn't have a good
countenance
and kind of restricted the students from
asking questions and whatnot
that can also you have to have a good
teacher who's open
to hearing uh questions good questions
and having the patience to answer them
but
the rest of the world basically goes on
and says what's the what's the remedy
the remedy is to spend a lot of time
learning
okay i'm gonna go i'm gonna skip now
this whole piece because
there's no way i'm going to get to the
most important part of the evening which
we are now in
schmierson part 2 number 2 of the 48
ways
but i really thought this was good
information to absorb
to digest to meditate on how important
it is
when your quest for your quest for
the truth is the only way it's going to
become clear to you
is to review it you come up with a
million and one questions and you have
to have someone that you could rely on
to ask
um you know this is i think one of the
major things that separates judaism from
any other
system in in the world and that is i
mean shouldn't say every system cause i
don't know every system but at least the
other
religions we really encourage questions
you have to think if something doesn't
make sense
ask right but with at least
you know some some valid point that
you're trying
no not just your subjective ideas and
that's okay too
you know you feel this is wrong and i've
had that
learning in yeshiva and believe it or
not
that's a good thing i feel this is wrong
know
that this doesn't sit right and bizrat
hashem
i mean through continuous learning it's
like an epiphany
wow the gomorrah the the torah itself
answers my very question it bothered me
i couldn't understand it
i just didn't sit right but there was
some opening somewhere
that actually brought peace right
to myself and i understood the torah is
so wise
it really covers every aspect of human
uh
potential and and intelligence
okay effective listening this is called
sin
the word for ears are ozen
now effectively listening the word
for scales when you're weighing things
out
we know one of the uh constellation
the month it just passed um tishrei
is the most naive right it's not that
they're ears
right they're two like things sitting
but they're actually scales
and there's balance right you balance
things
on the scales that's really how you you
would i mean today it's different right
you can
set it stand on a scale it tells you
it's 200 but you wanted to
you put something on the scale you
wanted how much you weighed on the other
side you would have to put
you know you you have equal a larger and
then you got smaller increments until
you get to the exact uh even scale and
then you know how much it weighs
that's the idea of michigan to figure
out the weight to measure the weight
so believe it or not ballot right the
idea that balance
is here right hashem obviously knows
everybody created our
right but people that have issues with
keeping their balance
usually i'm not again i'm not a doctor
you all know i'm not a doctor right
i might be a metaphysicist i have a
doctorate in metaphysics
but i gave it to myself by the way
um so you have this idea of
in your ear in your i don't know exactly
how it works in your equilibrium
i don't know that's right is somewhere
between your two ears
so there's a very interesting um
connection uh how that connects with
effective listening
i believe also i'm going to plug it in
even though it's not in his chapter
renault weinberg's chapter but basically
what my mother taught me when i i don't
know i was never
diagnosed with add or adhd
but i'm sure that you know half my kids
have it so
it could be that i passed it down to
them didn't know it
they nobody was being diagnosed for that
but i was a little bit of a
a wild kid but whenever my mother wanted
to sit down and have a conversation with
me
she said i want eye contact just look at
me while i'm talking to you
read my lips right like
to be in a conversation with somebody
this is something i learned a little bit
later in life
to be in a conversation you have to
learn and always say you have to right
if you want to be successful you should
learn how to be an effective listener
right we all know the famous idea hillel
and shami and they argue
hillel almost tops down wins all the
arguments
why many reasons why but the main thing
is because they were humble and they
allowed the other person to speak
first and when they repeated they said
okay before we even tell you our
opinion we want to make sure we
understand your opinion
is this what you said i mean that's a
really effective tool
keep your emotions out of it make sure
you really understand because we're
going to talk about defining terms
right we're going to get to that but in
the beginning it's just effective
listening it's such an important tool in
communication
my mother promised me that if you want
the person to respect you right that
they're talking to you
and if your eyes are all over the place
or you're just i don't know distracted
by a million things
you're not respecting they're not going
to feel your list that you're listening
to them
at least make me feel like you're
listening to me
so thank you mom you taught me a very
important lesson
uh in life so here we have the chapter
about listening with the ear because
that's
me ozin listening with the ear what's
the famous
mantra everyone knows
hero israel here does not mean just
listening with the ear
it's deeper it's entering the ear to
have
an understanding right and this is
something
you want you want to have you want to
have clarity
okay so he mentions that effective
listening
is a difficult skill so i would imagine
that i i had an early uh early on
uh hands-on um
what's the word you know um by my mother
training me i had early training but uh
you know sometimes you forget the heat
of passion try to remember
especially in the heat of passion you're
in an argument you're not going to win
the argument if he's not listening to
you and you're not listening to him
not that you're trying to win the
argument again the idea is to come to
the truth
so hillel not only allowed shamai to go
first but in the end we go after we pass
king we determine the
according to the majority opinion this
it seemed to
i guess the dell carnegie method right
how to win when friends influence people
so apparently that's what they did
because i mean this is an effective
tool in accomplishing that because
they were then able to clearly uh
describe
the other person's opinion their own
opinion and
by doing it very calmly and not
emotional and i guess they they
had a lot of confidence in the people
around them
that they became the popular school they
that it goes by the majority
so good character trait
you know i always said as i was growing
up i shouldn't say as
later on when i was growing up i thought
when they say good people finished last
i that's what they said when i was
growing up but i realized that's not
true
good people finish first you know it's
it's the journey like we're talking
about avraham it's not the destiny it's
the journey
and and and where you end up in god's
eyes is
most important you know so
this is very important
can i can i answer the question rabbi
yeah
well i just i mean i know everything
goes by the majority but is there is
there
not a time i know that there's a time
and a purpose
and a place for all things but is there
not a time
specifically where we should not be
following
the majority yeah only when it says in
the torah you
don't follow the majority for evil which
implies you do file the majority for
good
so but you need to have that scale that
balance the
that be able to weigh it right yes so
we're talking about the sanhedrin the
sanhedrin's good
so you have uh you have an uneven amount
right just like today's supreme court
uh you have nine um i don't know if
there's such a constant as packing
that you could pack to an even number i
i don't even get that point but whatever
it is
so if you have an uneven amount so you
always have a majority
right you always have a majority and
when you're it's a death penalty
so then you have to have a majority of
two that's one's not enough but
anyway so what was sorry what was the
question you wanted to know about
when you shouldn't be following the
majority so
we're only talking about um certified
card carrying members of you know elite
schools people who are the people who
are on the sanhedrin
are well known you know um with a great
amount of tenure whenever being rabbis
you don't just get this 20 year old
who's got no no background
i mean except there are exceptions but
um
so you basically have to have a lot of
credibility and so when we say follow
the majority we don't follow the
majority of jews we're following the
majority of the baked in we're following
the majority of the sanhedrin
we're following a majority of the
certified rabbis
you know what i mean the people all the
schools
admit uh agreed to as being legitimate
it's not a democracy in the sense that
we just
find out what all the jews are thinking
we it's like
like a democracy in the sense that you
go after the majority of the valid
opinions
right yeah so i don't know if that was
really the
no you answered my question with the not
for evil yeah don't don't don't follow
the majority
for evil i mean yeah yeah beautiful
thing
i've been doing you know you know my my
work i do a lot of stuff with the hebrew
and the gematrias
but there isn't in english the word
listen
and the word silent are the same
letters in english so
apparently you know he he writes in the
book there's no it's not an accident
okay i'll buy that i mean i don't really
know that much about
english uh you know structure to make it
like that but uh
let's let's uh let's use it as it is
obviously a lot of people when they're
very emotional while the other person is
talking all they're doing is thinking
of what to say back and they're not
really listening so if you have to write
notes of what the person's saying even
ask them let me get back to you
why why are you not listening
you know you're only building up your
own argument and that is
you know just a waste of everyone's time
uh defining your terms ravnak weinberg
was big
he said most times and this really what
the gamora comes down to
is people just argue and they don't even
define the terms and at the end of the
day
if you would define your terms they
actually agree with you 100
why don't you do that in the very
beginning there's a
uh syntax yeah there's a
a video there's a what do you call it
like a channel that i've been watching
lately
it's not really clean language but it's
interesting this guy crowder
louder with crowder and he does um
change my mind so he'll go into campuses
and he'll say i believe this now change
my mind
and he's pretty good and you can learn a
lot of how to
talk at least i think uh
in in i wouldn't even call a debate just
to
exchange of information you need to
define your terms
as soon as you define your terms now
again the person the
other person doesn't have to agree with
those terms but if you do agree
you'll find that there's probably no
disagreement because we're all made up
the same
moral uh framework and you know what i
mean
um so once you really define your terms
it's very important you'll realize that
there's probably no
not a lot of room for for argument
argumentation and
what else um
it just gives a lot of other examples i
encourage everyone to buy the book
you know it's worth reading right
oh beautiful beautiful material uh
something else at the very end of every
chapter he puts applied wisdom and
like like i guess like a workbook but
anyway
the last piece of information on this
particular thing
he mentions listening to what we read
see and experience
it's very important to really pay
attention
okay so i mean a lot of people will sit
and read and then you'll ask what they
read and they're not even going to be
able to
describe it to you now just give a few
headings right listening to the events
of your life
imagine you go on vacation you don't
take notes you don't take mental notes
you don't take pictures everyone does
also and listening to what other people
say so i actually want to read this okay
so let's go through it listening to what
we read
see and experience we tend to be lazy
we can spend an hour engrossed in
reading and not remember thing we've
read a few minutes later
get into the habit habit of articulating
what you've learned
this is a great way you think i have
time to review my learn my learning 101
times
no but every time i'm at a bus stop i
turn around to the guy next and they say
hey you want to hear something
interesting
or right after prayer service i go over
to someone say hey you want to hear
something interesting
and it gives me a chance to review
because it gets a little boring when you
just keep reading the whole thing over
again
but at least like first of all i get to
practice and i get to
hear fresh things that i wouldn't even
pass and i get to articulate
anything worth your time like learning a
book reading a newspaper having a
conversation
touring should be productive define your
goal ahead of time
what do you want to accomplish and once
it's done
define what you gained from the
experience have conversations with
people
don't let it become undefined a vague
piece of data is lost in the myriad of
details
swimming around in your brain if it's
worth
it's you know if you have a wife or a
husband
it's the best thing in the world you
know you have down time you just start
talking how was your day honey
what'd you think would you come across
right i encourage people to get married
okay
i really do um it's a good way to
keep your brain stimulated
like what they say men they just sit in
a box there are times trust me i just
want to turn off everything and just
you know think about nothing um but
um most of the day not like that okay
listening to the events in your life
listening to the events take the time to
introspect the and define lessons you've
learned from significant events that
have occurred in your life
i mean what do you have friends for i
mean i don't really i've never really
sat around in a bar and did this but if
if i was just a regular guy sitting
around a bar find somebody to talk about
life
for example someone who is laid off from
his job
should articulate the insight he gained
from the distressing experience
without articulating it he has no way to
verify that he's extracting the correct
lesson
this is something you have good friends
for right friends will tell you
oh you know i don't know i know a lot of
people they have they think they're
friends
so they tell them you know this person
did this to me and the person
the so-called friend says yeah that was
not nice
what a real friend should say is well do
you think you really uh
responded correctly you know wouldn't it
be nice a good friend would say
you know i'm not getting the full
picture could you repeat that again
is that what you did you really think
that's a nice thing to do i mean there's
how are you going to get across
your own you know reality check that's
why i said
a wife a husband is a good thing but
then you have good friends too
beneath the surface he may be thinking
now i know that i can't trust
employers and that i'm incapable of the
successful career
once he recognizes his thought process
he can really he can evaluate and
question his belief
sharpen his thinking and obtain a more
precise insight
this is what good friends do they
encourage you to say ah you didn't
deserve that
you could do better and then you know
you could
i don't think this information you want
to share with everybody but within
with enough of the closest friends you
never know that a new job opening will
open up that's in your field
and as opposed to just being depressed
and sitting in your
home and not talking to anybody it could
like snowball into god forbid the
long months of unemployment nothing
when it was just a thought and you let
it compound if you spoke to somebody
you never know and you try to realize
what you hear
so what's your insight i need to improve
my work habits and my input
interpersonal skills if that is what you
come out with and hopefully with a good
friend
he'll help you uh hopefully and
positively we call that
positive criticism
that's what i was looking for
constructive criticism listen to what
other people say
listening is an acquired skill it
doesn't come easy
make sure you're really hearing the
other person understanding what he's
saying
work on getting clear definitions they
are an essential tool for cutting
through confusion
and attaining clarity and they help to
ensure you become objective
i would just want to end with this idea
that in in yeshiva's in the
jewish bait midrash in the schools of
learning
you usually have a haruta a study
partner
and i remember struggling over a text
you struggle over a few words
you translate them and then your partner
will either agree or disagree he says
that that's not what it's saying
you're getting it wrong that's not what
the word means so okay let's get the
dictionary
or right and you want to go deeper and
deeper and on and on
this requires listening how much time is
wasted with the ego
saying i'm right i'm going to prove him
wrong there's no point
there's no point what are you wasting
your life away consider what the person
is saying the only way to do that is to
truly listen
right so i give a blessing to all the
christ all over the world
jewish and non-jewish who are doing real
serious learning to get to the truth
open your ears invest in q-tips
right your ears but it's the ego it's
not you know
just have a q-tip to remind yourself
listen you know just leave it on the
table clean one up
just put in your pocket whatever it is
remind yourself
listen it's so important anyway so i
um i'm glad we finished number two uh
effective listening and bazrat hashem
next week
we'll continue and we'll go to number
three
you know i really love how you brought
out the point that people shouldn't
brood
over anything they should you know just
get past it don't argue
don't need no need to be stuck on the
wrong right
you know i'm wrong right you're wrong
you're wrong i'm right
you know hammer out thoughts uh
digest it get it into you work it it's
it's like sometimes our lives are like
metal that hashem is really doing some
serious work on
just think about just i don't want to
get too political but the whole council
culture and free speech
is uh in jeopardy so
what we're going to talk about next week
is called saying it out loud
obviously listening right changed my
mind this guy is
brilliant but to
now saying it out loud obviously if it's
not pc you're going to be in trouble
but at least say it out loud to yourself
at least we'll talk about it next week
but uh this is uh these are right first
amendment it's called free speech
okay we'll find out next week
but listening is a tool for life so
these 48 ways to wisdom
are for the world to accept on whatever
level they want to
right as tools to be more successful in
acquiring wisdom
and that's what we're all about here
okay awesome
thank you so much for uh closing off
with that uh rabbi
it's a joy to be with you live from
jerusalem this has
been a rabbi aaron david poston with
beyond the seven
sharing the 48 ways with uh
those that are listening uh around the
world we appreciate it
uh so till next week uh we'll be at
daylight saving time here in the west i
know you guys are already ahead of us
there
in jerusalem we look forward to hearing
you share more torah next week so till
then folks have a wonderful
wonderful week
