How do you deal with feeling angry at
your spouse? Now, the truth is we're all
human and it's a natural emotion to be
frustrated or disappointed, resentful,
or even angry. It's natural, but that
doesn't mean it's productive or helpful.
Dr. John Gottman says that every time a
couple fight, there was a conversation
that had to happen, but the fight
happened instead. And every time a
person lashes out with anger, there was
an emotion, a communication that needed
to happen, a vulnerability, sharing,
letting the other person know something
maybe that they did that hurt you or
that they could have done differently.
When it comes out with anger, nothing
productive results. So, while it's
natural to sometimes feel angry at your
spouse, take a deep breath, overcome it,
and instead figure out how to
productively express, communicate, and
instead of having a fight, have the
conversation instead.
