The Happiness Within | Rabbi Yosef Shimon Bleier

I remember when I was young, every year felt like a century. And I was always waiting till finally, till I could get to the next grade and the next class, and I thought finally then I'll make it in life. So I went from כיתה א to כיתה ב to כיתה ג. Finally at a certain point I realized I'm never going to make it in Cheider. Let me go, when I get to Yeshiva, that's when I'll make it in life. But the same thing happened when I got to Mesivta and then to Beis Medrash. Then I said: Listen, nothing's going on till I get to Eretz Yisroel in Yeshiva. But the same thing happened again and I said: I have to get married and then I have to have children and then I have to start making money. Everyone has their own things. Till I realized that a person's never satisfied in the place where he is in life. The Ribono shel Olam created us in a way that we always need something new, and we always need a Chiddush, and we always need to move on, and only then we believe we'll be happy, but the second we get there, we realize that ultimately the happiness is not over there. The happiness is within. Rabosai, in the times of the heilige Chasam Sofer there was a person that was a multimillionaire and he had a lot of Nachas from his children. And then something crazy happened. He put by mistake, he bought a lottery ticket and he ended up winning that also. Chasam Sofer writes that after that, the man, he couldn't handle his life anymore. He was just broken, completely broken. Why was he broken? The answer is because there's nothing new anymore for him. There's nothing for him to look forward to, there is nothing new in his life. Rabosai, when we walk out and we have this Nisayon of Shmiras Einayim, where does it come from? Why is this coming to us? Because we're always looking for something new and we're never satisfied with what we have. The second we’ll realize that we're never going to be happy, we’ll only be happy if we find it from within. And we look at the Torah, the Torah has in it the התחדשות, the newness. The Gemara says, בכל יום ויום יצר הרע מתחדש עליו. But the same thing is the Torah is מתחדש עליו בכל יום. The same newness the Yetzer Hara tries to create for you that this is what's going to get you, the glitz of that and this is what you want to see, this is what you want, has the same power in Torah, that the Torah has the newness and the התחדשות. The second you throw yourself into Torah, you'll see how fresh and how geshmak every single day is going to be. So, of course, this is the Pshat that אם פגע בך מנוול זה, if this Yetzer Hara comes to you, משכהו לבית המדרש take him to Beis Medrash so that I don't need you. I have the Beis Medrash, I have the Torah. Of course, let's stop looking forward for the next thing we'll have in life. Then we'll start enjoying the moments of life. But the things that we'll need is always going to be in the Torah, because the Torah can give us better than all. בראתי יצר הרע בראתי תורה תבלין.
