Remembering the Aibishter | Rabbi Yoir Adler

There was a Holocaust survivor that tragically and unfortunately lost his one and only daughter in the Holocaust. He later lived in Boro Park and he didn't manage to have children again. As he was getting older, he wanted to do something to honor the memory of his daughter. So he called up a certain Rosh Yeshiva and he said, I want to sponsor a building for the Yeshiva and to dedicate it in the name of my daughter. The Rosh Yeshiva said: Sure, come over tonight at 9 o’clock, and we'll put together a Nusach that we should put on the building. This brokenhearted Holocaust survivor came into the house of this Rosh Yeshiva, and he sat down on the chair, and the Rosh Yeshiva says: Okay, let's start writing the Nusach, let's start writing the script. Can you please tell me the name of your daughter? And this Holocaust survivor went pale, he began shaking and trembling. And he says: I can't believe it. I have forgotten the name of my daughter. After all that I went through, after all the suffering, after all the persecution, after being years and years in Auschwitz, the name is no longer in my memory. And he burst out into uncontrollable sobs. The Rosh Yeshiva then lifted up his eyes to the Aibishter and he says, We say in davening, Ribono shel Olam, look at us. Look what we've been through. We are like sheep to the slaughter. We have suffered tremendously. We have been tortured, we have been hurt, we have been burnt. But nevertheless, We didn't forget your name, and we remember your name every single day. And in that zechus we ask, Don't forget our name. What is the name of the Aibishter? We say in Shemoneh Esrei, The name of the Aibishter is Kedusha. We say in Yom Tov davening, The name of the Aibishter represents Kedusha. When a person is walking down the street and he has a temptation, he has a challenge, and then he turns away and he says: Vayimaen! That is a declaration that he is remembering the Aibishter’s name, and then he can daven and plead to the Aibishter, I remembered your name, your Kedusha, what you stand for,
