Ayin Hara. The Evil Eye. Nobody wants to be smitten by an Ayin Hara. It's bad. It's evil. That's why it's called the Evil Eye. It can disturb our Parnassah, it can disturb our health, it can disturb many things. It can even cause death. The Gemara in Bava Metzia. And Hashem will take away from you all sickness. Rav says: This is the Evil Eye. And Rav said he made a survey. He went to the cemetery, did what he did. He said, 99% of people die because of Ayin Hara. Only 1% die of natural causes. Ayin Hara. Is there anything to do about it? Is there any way to stop it? Can we do anything? It's a reality. It's a fact. Like it says in Sefer Habris, Check it out. They took two dogs. The dogs have evil eye. He said: Take two dogs. Starve one dog. Don't give him to eat. Then take another dog. Feed the other dog when the hungry dog is looking. Says the Sefer Habris, R’ Pinchas Eliyahu of Vilna, Within a few hours, בדוק ומנוסה, the dog that ate the food will die. He received the Evil Eye. Ayin Hara is Ayin Hara. How can we do something that there shouldn't be Ayin Hara? Well, the Gemara in Brachos brings down a story with R’ Yochanan. R’ Yochanan went in a place where he could have suffered from Ayin Hara. He had a beautiful countenance, he looked very nice, and he could have received Ayin Hara. The Talmidim asked him, Aren’t you afraid of Ayin Hara? He says: No, I'm not afraid, because I'm from Yosef. I'm from Yosef. The Gemara in the second answer in Brachos, Yosef Hatzaddik, מכיוון, since, לא רצה לזון he didn't want to enjoy something that’s not his, the Evil Eye has no dominion over him. You hear? Anybody who does not want to satisfy himself, look on something that's not his, he will be guarded from Ayin Hara. Ayin Hara is bad, as we said. It's evil. But we can save ourselves.
