Meriting Divine Protection | Rabbi Nachum Binder

Over the last few weeks, Klal Yisroel, and especially תושבי ארץ הקודש, have lived through terrifying times. Sirens wailing, missiles exploding, buildings collapsing, wounded, injured, and רחמנא לצלן, too many not here with us anymore. But at the same time, we saw a tremendous Hashgachah of the Ribono shel Olam on Klal Yisroel and on Eretz Yisroel. Even though the suffering and the pain was so much, it could have been so much worse, and the Ribono shel Olam, ברוב רחמיו וחסדיו spared Klal Yisroel of real destruction. How are we zoche to that Hashgachah of the Ribono shel Olam? The pasuk in Parshas Eikev describes Eretz Yisroel as The Hashgachah that the Ribono shel Olam has on Eretz Yisroel is described as a Hashgachah of the Ribono shel Olam’s eyes. How do we understand such a concept? We know that the Ribono shel Olam is אין לו גוף ואין לו משיגי גוף. There's no eyes to the Ribono shel Olam, כביכול. So what does it mean when the Torah says that the Ribono shel Olam’s eyes watch over Eretz Yisroel? And in the פתיחה to the Sefer Sha’arei Ora from one of the Rishonim, he tells us that whenever the Torah describes the Ribono shel Olam, כביכול, with a certain limb of the body, what the Torah means to tell us is that if we want to be zoche to that Hashgachah, we have to perfect that limb. And he says this Mashal. He says: When the Torah describes the Ribono shel Olam, the Hashgachah of Hashem, as עיני השם, the way to be zoche to that Hashgachah, is by us perfecting our eyes, by not looking where we're not supposed to look. מוריי ורבותיי, we all are turning to the Ribono shel Olam with constant Tefillah for שלום אחינו בני ישראל. Let us realize, let us appreciate, that it depends on us. It depends on our Shmiras Einayim, on our עמידה בניסיון. We're entering the תקופה of summer, where there are so many Nisyonos, wherever we go. And if we will hold ourselves back, we will watch our eyes, we will be zoche to that Hashgachah of and we will be zoche בקרוב to ותחזינה עינינו בשובך לציון ברחמים.
