Life starts off very exciting. It's full of color, of beauty, of passion. But after a while, we become disillusioned. And sometimes we become less idealistic. This isn't limited to us. The Torah HaKedoshah tells us, The king is to be appointed. The king is coronated, the king is anointed. The Torah HaKedoshah says, As the king sits on his throne. It should say בשבת. What does that mean, ‘as he sits’? Says HaGaon R’ Mottel Pegrimansky zt”l, that a king has plans and he starts off occupying his throne with tremendous ideas. Very idealistic. But after a while, he gets disappointed. He gets disillusioned, he gets bored. A king has always to live his life כשבת, as if he's sitting on the throne for the first time. Every day of his monarchy is כשבת המלך על כסא ממלכתו. And that's the way it is with a Yid. We have wonderful ideas. We're very idealistic. We have passion. But then we get hurt, disillusioned, bored. The Yesod of being successful in guarding our eyes, our thoughts, is to think of ourselves as kings, בני מלכים, that every day are occupying our throne for the first time. R’ Yisroel Salanter zt”l would wake up his son and tell him, Prince, your reign awaits. Your monarchy awaits your rulership. Everyone has to start off his day and complete his day כשבת המלך על כסא ממלכתו, as if we’ve just occupied the throne for the first time. With that idealism, with that excitement, with that passion we accomplish so many things in life. Every day becomes unique and special, as the day that the king is coronated. We should be zoche to occupy the throne of life each one כפי מהללו, according to our own unique talents and strengths and create ריבוי כבוד שמיים, a Kiddush Hashem for every thought, gesture, and every day.
