I'm speaking to you from Yerushalayim, עיר הקודש. All is quiet now. But I've got half an ear open, waiting for the wail of the sirens to summon us once again to our shelters and our sealed rooms. As the rescuers search through the ruins of the charred buildings, I was thinking, we who have been spared, בחסדי השם, have also got to do a search. We've got to search through our Neshamos. And that search is so much easier now, because our Neshamos are open, opened by sadness and tragedy, but also open in hope and trust in Hashem, who is all love and kindness. Our hearts are open now to Teshuva, to fix, to improve. On Shabbos night, at 2:00 in the morning, the sirens began their mournful wail, and once again, we rushed to our shelters. My 3-year-old grandson Dovid said: Zeyde, soon their batteries are going to run out from all the אזעקות, from all the sirens, and they won't be able to live anymore. They're going to die. Dovid thought the sirens were the Iranians. Sometimes we, too, are like little children. We mistake the effect for the cause. The sirens are not the battle, and the war is not the war we think it is. When we look for a way to win this war, we need look no further than our own ד’ אמות. Maybe you're sitting in Flatbush or in Boro Park or Chicago or L.A., and you're thinking: What can I do to help my beloved brothers and sisters in Hashem’s Holy Land, who are in constant mortal danger? The battlefield, my friends, is not just in Iran. It's in our hearts. It's in our homes. The world we live in today is a world where there's a fight for our eyes at every street corner. When we turn aside our eyes, we make a terrorist gunman look aside, lose his focus and miss his target. When we control where we look, a centrifuge, spinning uranium in Iran, spins out of control and crashes. And if we can nuke our Yetzer Hara, even for a second, that stops our mortal enemies achieving nuclear breakout. Shmiras Einayim creates an iron dome of Divine protection that no enemy of the Jewish people will ever pierce.
