Every conductor has a different answer. >> What exactly are you doing? >> Every conductor doesn't have a same motivation. Not about technique, it's not about how they do it. It's just about like what is the goal when they're conducting and what is conducting for. >> Simple terms, you're you're setting the tempo. >> Okay. >> You know, in short, you know, the guy sitting over there is at one speed and this guy saying a cat if she's already in Europe. If there was somebody able to signal everybody to stay together, that's really what the conductor does. That's the simplest thing that the conductor does. Especially in a large orchestra, they're far apart from each other. They're not even hearing each other at the same time because sound travels at a finite speed. >> Right. >> If there's somebody who's giving the beat, >> You're the anchor, really for like the whole thing. >> Right. This this is the speed we're going at and we're all doing it together. Then tempos change. It's faster or slower. Somebody's got to conduct that tempo change. So, that's really what you see at a concert. Honestly speaking, there are a lot of conductors who don't know how to conduct. If you go to a concert and you watch carefully, you'll see that most of the musicians aren't looking at the conductor. They're following the the concert master. The concert master is the first violinist. >> right. >> You'll often see the conductor shake hands with the concert master. I do that all the time because they're following him and he's part of being a concert master is he knows how to conduct. He makes with his violin and everybody follows him.
