Rabbi Walente grew up in Toronto and
studied in yeshiva at Shalaveim where he
also served in the IDF's Nakal brigade
through the Hezda program. He holds
SMika from the chief rabbin of Israel, a
bachelor's in psychology from the Hebrew
Theological College in Skoi, Illinois,
and an MA in Jewish education from the
Hebrew University. He is also a
certified psychotherapist through the
family institute of usim. It's my
pleasure to introduce him and I will
just say that this year she has been
dedicated very kindly and very
generously by Zippor and Ellie Raisin in
memory of their their mothers Marsha
Miriam.
May their memories uh be blessed and may
very much.
>> All right.
All right. Nice to see uh some familiar
faces, some new faces. Um it's great.
It's an amazing thing that people are
coming before Yam Kipper. We're on
era of Yamiper right now. And the fact
that people are taking the time to come
and to learn and prepare for the
particularly for yam kiper which is you
know in itself such a such a meaningful
day but to really get the most out of it
you have to prepare and like everything
else in life the more you prepare the
better we get into it and therefore for
me I find that every year there's some
thought I have to have going into each
hug but in particular yum kiper yum
kipper is intense right the the buildup
for it we've been starting already in
lol the day it's so dramatic the fast
besides for lowering lowering my
caffeine intake which I'm not being so
successful with this time but I have
also to get really ready what am I
thinking about going into this yum
kipper now in general my focus or the
focus of most people we talk about yum
kipper we talk about chuva we talk about
chuva in general the focus is usually on
the individual not myself how can I be
better. What were the mistakes that I
made? What other relationships I need to
mend? What is relationship? Where am I
holding with Hashem? And how can I work
on that? Make it better. Where are the
stressors? But the focus a lot of the
time is on me me, right? What can I as
an individual do better? But over the
last couple of years, we know that the
focus for all of us has really been
amish. And the question that I was going
into this particular yum kipper with and
really the whole time frame of chuva is
is there a connection or not just a
connection but a deeper um clistic
connection to chuva and yum kiper or is
this something that really is we're
supposed to be focusing on ourselves and
making ourselves better and like most
things there are very very few things
that are found within Judaism that are
just focused on the individual. And what
we're going to see is that the idea of
chuva that is connected with the nation
of Israel as a whole is something that's
actually very prominent. Now, we'll
start. I'm not we're not going to focus
too much on a little bit. I didn't bring
too many sources, right? There's only a
couple sources I want to really go into,
but just as a background in source
number one, Rambam is talking about how
we do vidi and how do we confess. I want
to do chuva and when I do chuva what do
I say? So what is my confession and if
you look at the language
how do we do this confession and he says
right everything is in the singular
right it's all about me I made this
mistake I want to be better and that
seems to be very logical when I make a
mistake I say my bad I'm at fault I'm
sorry it's about me and that is what I
would expect it to be however if you see
in source Number three and this is in
the next pericam
changes the language that we use and he
says
is
[Music]
we sin and as we know
right it's au
we did it we did it we did it we did it
it's no longer about the I it's now
about the we which is very different now
what is the difference between source
number one, rumbum in the first peric
and rum bum in the second peric. The
difference is is that in source number
one, what are we talking about? We are
talking about an individual who did
something wrong throughout the year and
wants to make amends for it. That is the
confession that they should make in the
singular. However, in source number
three, we are already talking about the
chuva and yum kipur and there the
language change. There the language
becomes plural which is a huge
difference and we will see why. Now in
source number two just as a little
almost like a little hint without really
explaining it. Raom also it's before the
last we learned in source number two Ram
says
right it's a time of cha for all
it's a chuva for the individual and for
the community and for the for the for
everybody so here we see that there is a
coming together there is unification of
the individual
with the with the with the community at
large. Now it doesn't really explain and
what is the significance of that but we
see that this idea is already hinted at
and this is going to be something that
is critical for us to understand.
The other question the main question
that we really have to have in mind is
what are we doing now? Why are we asking
forgiveness now? Meaning, if I go and
punch my friend in the face at some
point in January, I think that we would
all be in agreement that I should
probably as quick as possible go and
apologize to him and not wait say I got
a bunch of months till young Kipper. I'm
good to go. I can wait. Obviously, we're
going to need to improve ourselves now.
I need to go and fix the relationship
that I can have right now. I'm not going
to say, "Yeah, I know that we're in a
fight right now, but it's okay because I
have some time to get you kipper. Then
I'm going to go and ask forgiveness for
you." Right? So why is it what is the
significance that we are we that of
specifically yum kiper and the chua that
we're doing because I think rightly so
if I asked you all you would all agree
that a person should ask for forgiveness
immediately right right away or as quick
as possible right I heard a I heard a
great expression I forget it's a it was
a it was a it was um psychologist who
said this um strike when the iron's cold
meaning if you're really upset still
about something it's not the ideal time.
You want to wait till the passions go
down. But then but still an hour, a day,
a week, whatever it is, but don't let it
sit. You got to you got to you got to
work on it right away. You did something
bad. You're not waiting a long time. So
what are we doing now? Why are we even
talking about a chuva that exists for
this time of year? That's the overall
question you want to see. And now I just
want to see again three sources now.
Each one just to ask a a short question
on it. And then hopefully by the end
we'll understand a little bit about how
all these ideas connect and what we're
trying to get out of yum kiper. We got
to be careful about the time. Okay.
In source number four. So the source
number four it's also a gumar and yuma
but it's there's different gear about
how it's brought down. So I brought down
how it is in the yakov. And again these
these might be sources that you're
familiar with. So verse number four it
says
is so great
because it gets it reaches
again this in the context right of yuma
context of yum kipper right and chuva is
so great that it gets to the
sounds so beautiful it sounds inspiring
but what does it mean what what does
that mean it goes to the kav that's so
nice that's that's wonderful
so majestic and Hashem the king is
sitting on the on the throne. What does
he even mean? How does that affect me in
my life? So that that chuva gets to the
so that's an idea that we are going to
have to understand.
Secondly in source number five. So there
this is also this is in again about
so great that even for an individual
that does
that that the entire world is forgiven
because this one person did chuva. Now
this is a crazy statement also. It's so
beautiful. It's wonderful. But it's a
crazy statement. What does that mean? I
do chuva and now the entire world has
been elevated has been lifted up. How
does that make any sense? If I do chuva,
I can understand that I will be
elevated. I will be lifted up. My
relationships will be healed. But how
does me doing chuva influence the entire
world that I can literally elevate the
entire world? Again, it learns it from
au.
So again, it's a from the all those the
people that slid back, he will heal all
those that slide that are sliding back
that are doing wrong, right? And he will
show love and and he will turn away his
his anger from them. And it says
specifically meu from him in the in the
singular even though it's referring to
even though it's referring to the
plural. Okay, very nice. So it's a we
can learn it from but still conceptually
how does that make any sense? How does
it make any sense that I as an
individual by doing my own chuva can now
influence the entire world and elevate
it to a different level. And the last
the last source before we we really
start the idea is something that I'm
sure many of you are familiar with. It's
a
also it makes sense everything be seeing
is ina because we are dealing with and
that is
as the says
the we're going to be saying
meaning there's there's there's a
certain magic about yamipper yum kipper
has the ability the day itself is the
idea the ability to to to transform us
and to provide atonement which is why
it's called it's a day of atonement
there's a magical element of the day but
that only works for
that are
right with our relationship with Hashem
because there we're really influ I did
something wrong that had to do with you
know between me and my creator and now
I'm fixing that and there's there's
there's that and then that we're
rebuilding our relationship and I'm
kipper and that makes sense however
the other problems that we do the other
sins that we do are
for that.
You want yum kipper to have its proper
effect and change you and uplift you.
First, you have to go seek out your
friend and apologize. All the people
that you did wrong to this year, you
have to call them up. You have to go
over them and you have to make amends.
Only after you do that can yipper
actually have its intended impact on
you.
So now we have to understand the
question that I kind of asked before
which is why is it that if I do
something wrong to somebody why am I
waiting till yum kipper wouldn't I need
to go and ask amends right away and
obviously the answer is yes obviously
you want to fix it right away so then
why now is there this focus that we're
going and asking forgiveness from our
friends specifically now versus the rest
of the year because it's something that
really should be there's equality here
should be every day is equal anytime I
have this problem really I need to fix
it there's obviously something unique
about yum kipper that this is an element
that's required obviously it needs to be
done all throughout the rest of the year
and you should not be letting fights
simmer and sit and you have to try and
heal them right away but there's
something unique about yum kipper
something that we have to understand
about yum kipper that in order for it to
have its magic in order for it to
ultimately affect us we need to first
ask forgiveness from those that we have
hurt. Okay, so just as a summary to see
all the questions that uh make sure
everybody's following, right? Number
one, why is it that on that by by
true time where now we're using the
language of plural, we're asking
forgiveness on a plural level. I was
saying
we did it as opposed to
which is what I do during the rest of
the year when I make mistakes. I want to
ask it to myself. Right. Number two,
what does it mean to do chuva? Then it
takes us
it gets us up to the chair, the throne
of God. Again, very beautiful statement
but very vague what that means. Number
three, right? How can my own personal
chuva influence the entire world? And
how can I attain
atonement for the entire world just
because of my individual uh chuva?
And number four, why is it that we have
this this extra idea of appeasement of
our friends specifically now before yum
kipper when we all know it's something
we need to be doing throughout the
entire year? What's the unique element
of doing it specifically now before yum
kipper? Okay, clear any question till
now? Okay. So, what I want to do is I
want to go to a certain bait midash. The
reason why I'm saying it's a certain
bait mij is because um all three of
these people had relation to each other,
right? We're going to see kind of three
pieces and they're all I believe in a
sense they're all building off of each
other and they're all related. So
they're all saying something a little
bit different, but I do believe that
there is some there is a holistic
picture by putting all these pieces
together and these are all people that
had relationship with each other. So the
first is Rashar Yash Cohen. Rashar Yash
Cohen was the son of the Nazir of David
Cohen. The Naz the the Nazir was the one
of the prime talidim of Rkok.
He then he became ultimately the chief
rabbi of Kyifa for many many years and
he passed away in 2016. So relatively
recently. So he has a safer called Shai
Cohen and he says there's something
fascinating. This is a source number
seven. And he makes a differentiation
between two concepts that the only
difference between them is one letter.
And what is that? He says
okay there is in
the community
and there's a
of the community. So you see that the
difference between the B the in versus
the H. Again, very little difference,
but he's going to explain that there's a
there's a huge significance here. And he
says
throughout the year, what do we need to
do?
We have right three times a day. We have
obviously people can add, but we have a
concept that we do three times a day.
And ideally, we should be doubing in a
minion, right? And in that minion, and
the more the marrier,
right? So the more people that join the
greater it is to to have as many people
as possible in a minion. But still in
those that we do in throughout the year
three times a day, right? That is a of
an individual that is joining a meaning
we come to sh we sit in the sh as
individuals that are you know uniting in
and and and joining together with the
community at large but with the
community at large. We're still standing
there as individuals.
Obviously there needs to be a minion
a limit of at least a minion but like I
said the more the merrier the better it
is.
Now this idea what is theore in this
context meaning every single that you go
to minion every day whenever you show up
in you go to a minion that what is that
meaning it is a collection of
individuals that because we are a
collection of individuals and we're not
just standing by oursel we have the
ability to say what's referred to
asimusha
kadesh kadusha kazarat Very nice. Why?
Because
but there's nothing inherently unique
about the this is just when you break it
down is just a bunch of individuals that
have come together but we remain as
individuals and that's our throughout
the entire year.
And then he continues on the third line.
But there's another type of
and that's the type of where the
individual is trying to join and connect
with it to become one with it with the
community that is ding
to join together and to to to gel
together completely and become one unit
with that community.
And that is why this idea of
which is on the
is a completely different essence right
meaning when you have you have but at
the end of the day through when we
throughout the year we have our own
private which ultimately is thearray
that we're dinging and then we also have
aan that leads us in and we answer but
that is not the essence. We still remain
as individuals and you could say that
that the Kazan's there to be yay. Those
that cannot be yay don't know how to do
and nowadays we we're much more fluent
and most people could do themselves. So
it still remains but we're still just
individuals that are doving but it's
completely different on
the has a completely different essence.
And he says
It's not just the sum of individuals
who
it now represents the Jewish people as a
whole. We are now not standing as
individuals. When we stand on Shaunipur,
when we stand in our we are not we are
no longer standing now as an individual.
We are standing as representatives and
completely united of Kalis of the entire
Jewish people. That is the essence of
what the is on. It's completely
different than the rest of the year.
It's also much longer, but it's
completely different.
meaning whether it's blowing the
chauffear and we're blowing the chauffar
together as one united people the saying
or whether it's the confession that
we're making. So therefore it's very
logical that the confession that we
would be making is not being said in the
singular as an individual but it's being
said as a community. It's being said in
the plural because I'm not just
representing myself now. I'm
representing the entire Jewish people.
I'm not standing alone right now. So I
don't even have to be afraid of my own
sins because I'm not alone. It's not
it's not just me. It's the Jewish
people. And for the Jewish people,
right,
as the Jewish people, we can we're all
as a as representatives of the Jewish
people, we are all sadikim. As
individuals, we can be very flawed, but
as the Jewish people, we are united. We
are one and we are all righteous. And
then he says, then he goes to explain
that mission. He says,
So this is the deeper understanding of
why on
that on these days right now Kipper is
not going to have its influence until we
go around and personally ask forgiveness
from the people that we harmed. Why?
Because now it's it's not just the chuva
during the rest of the year that I want
to repair my relationship. That's the
minute I I I I have those I have a fight
I should take care of it. This is now
not about that. It's about our ability
to join together as one people. But if
I'm not asking forgiveness, then there
are there are walls, there are
partitions between me and my friend,
between me and my wife, between me and
my children, whatever it is. And and we
can't join together anymore. We can't
join as one people. So therefore the
work has to be that I'm knocking down
those partitions before we get to
Yumiper in order for Yipper to have its
effect.
The last line
is the last. Oh, I just realized it's
not the last line.
I have a separate print out. Okay.
Because the whole that we're trying to
do of the confession oner is to all join
together to become one unit the
bim and all the while that there is a
mountain I'll switch back the ones that
everyone else has right all the while
that there is a mountain between them
it's not going to work we cannot be we
cannot join together and yipper will not
have its influence that it's supposed to
have.
And then he continues, so I see now
we're on the we're on the flip on this
on the second page.
Uh third line
because of either things that I did or I
said, we need to break down those
barriers
that that caused us to fight.
Therefore, it is a condition for Yum
Kipper to have to for our service on
Yumiper is
the mutual appeasement that we're having
for each other. It's not just a cute
thing that we're doing. We need to
become one. We need to let things go and
feel is together.
And then the individual joins together
with its seabboard. As it seabore, we
could do no wrong. as it's sib and our
we are we are holy as individuals we
make mistakes as we know and then he
ends by quoting his saintly father
as again this is like one of the themes
of of we sing it
praiseworthy are you the Jewish people
in front of you who in front of whom do
you become purified and who purifies you
and And this obviously has that
influence on us.
That is the whole work of us to do on
which is what
to awaken our sense of love for the
Jewish people. That is what the Nazar
said. Not asking for forgiveness, not
mending my relationship with God. The
whole of Oda of of Yum Kipper is to
connect with the Jewish people.
which is it's unbelievable. It's a it's
a very strong statement. It's a very
strong statement. Right? But let's take
it a step further. Right before we get
there, I I brought up Rambam that that
uh that we're going to see the next
source is kind of basing off of where
he's also talking about the challenge of
the fact that that we brought up before
where if Chuva exists the entire year,
which we know it does, what's unique
about the time frame that we're in right
now? So he says outright that
Even though in general and calling out
to God is good
for the 10 days,
it's even better
and it's received right away. Okay, very
nice. So, but again, what does that
really mean? Why why is it so powerful
on these days specifically when it has
to be something that we're doing
throughout the year? So, the next source
is Ul soiel is
he was he became the chief rabbi of Yafo
in 1911 which means he was Rafuk's
counterpart thei counterpart the Rook's
as Ashkarazzi and he was a Sardi and he
was very close to Rkook right and uh
that's why I'm saying that the all these
sources kind of go together in a sense
like they're in this that same world and
I saw even this book he he'll quote Ruff
Cookook as well um I believe he passed
away in 195 1953. At that point, he was
the he was the chief uh he ended up
becoming the chief the the the chief
sardi rabbi of Israel. Well, before in
1939, meaning which is after passed
away, but he then became the chief rabbi
of of British mandate Palestine. And
then in 1948, he became the first uh
Rishel Nition of of Midat Israel. also a
phenomenal thinker and someone who uh we
need to be learning more from that a lot
of these figures that they're they're
they're really incredible and we don't
hear enough about them. We're not
learning enough of their Torah. But he
says like this, he also brings two
concepts, right? So now we have the
concept of
and the difference between them and he's
saying something else. He's going to say
there's two types of chuva and that's
how he's going to differentiate between
the rest of the year versus the
uniqueness of yum kipper. And he says
like this. Oh, I tell you to outsider.
He says there is one type of chuva that
is called
means healing chuva. Right? Now what
does that mean? That is the chuva that
we're all familiar with. Right? If I
hurt myself, okay,
I don't know, break my arm, right? So
now I it has to heal. I have to go to
the doctor. I have to take care of it.
Maybe put it into a cast, whatever it
is. And then eventually it'll heal or I
have a cut. But even after it heals, it
could be that there's a scar. Could be
if I have a deep cut, maybe there's a
scar even after it heals. Now the chuva
that we normally talk about is this type
of chuva. We have a spiritual body,
right? And we have cut or uh you know
wounded that that spiritual body and we
need to heal it. Very nice. That's
spiritual healing and that's something
that we understand. It's very clear. But
then the novelty is a separate type of
chuva and that is called chuva
which is of the source going back to the
to our source and this is what he says.
So this is already now the third line
of course it's also we're also focusing
on on our on our personal sins and the
things that you know and improving
ourselves. It's not like we're not
focusing at all about approving
ourselves. Of course, that plays a part
in it, but that's not the unique part,
but it doesn't it's not limited to that
for just uh uh confessing things
and and um and uh regretting, you know,
actions that I've made in the past and
trying to get comfort over the past,
but rather the regret we're having now
is to actually to completely uproot
or completely uprooting the sin. It's
not like I'm healing it and I'm left
with the mark. I'm going back to the
source so that I can completely uproot
and get rid of it as if it was never
here
in order to give direction to my life or
to life in general.
life of peace and love
and a life of exaltedness
to get into a transcendent type of life,
a holy type of life.
And now here's the bold line. This chuva
is not just about a person returning to
themsel and dealing with himself and
fixing themsel.
It's the chuva of us returning as
individuals and uniting with the
community, uniting with the entire
uniting with all of the Jewish people
and obviously to our creator who is oh
that what does that mean?
[Music]
This chuva of the individual who is
alone and lonely now reunites with the
reunites with the community
reunites with his state with the
national
and all of humanity actually
the entire world
because we everything is really only one
one united body.
because an individual we have to
understand this right now for me one of
the one of the scenes I love uh watching
is the end of Schindler's list right
when he realizes that he gets the ring
that says that he who saves one life as
if he saved the entire world and like
breaks down and says I could have gotten
two more people with this pin and with
the car I could have gotten it's a very
emotional scene but it doesn't just mean
because what how we normally understand
it that one person you know from that
one person now generations which is
beautiful and look at all the
generations that came forth from that
person which is true and it's beautiful
but it's deeper than that it's that the
person themselves forget about the
generations that come afterwards a p
each person themsself is anal is an
entire world
because each individual person contains
within them
has in them the entire of existence
right the essence of the entire
existence is in each and every single
one of us and And therefore we are now
returning to that essence. Why is it
that Judaism is so focused on
monotheism? Why do we care so much? If
we want to be good people, maybe we can
just have a bunch of gods, but those
gods are ethical gods who want us to do
good. Why is our mantra
right? That that's it. That that unity,
that one of God, that is the most
important thing because that is our
entire mission in this world.
Recognizing that everything in this
world is really one and connected. And
once we understand that, that's how we
get rid of evil. That's how we get rid
of bad. Because I don't see you as
threatening me. I don't see I don't get
jealous because I recognized I don't one
arm is not jealous of the other arm.
Right? I'm not going to have revenge
from one limb over another limb. When we
recognize that we're really all
connected
spiritually and as we asem again this
obviously very coalistic but as the
world becomes more physical in order for
it to become physical we now that
creates boundaries and therefore I
perceive myself as a separate entity and
if I'm separate from you then you're
getting in my space you're taking away
from me you're challenging me you're
competition to me I can be jealous of
you but the minute I recognize that
really we're all connected If the entire
world is really one, then I want what's
best for you cuz I want what's best for
me and you are really just also an
extension of me and I'm an extension of
you. We're all connected. We're all one.
So when we return to that mur youth, we
recognize that we're all really one in
our source. Then what? All the sins go
away because they're all it's all nar.
It's all like why would I fight with one
hand over the other hand? Doesn't make
any sense because I I I know what I
really am. and and of course my my my my
my connection with the Kushbar also
because he is the source of the source.
So obviously that's going to go away
also that is chub.
So now I just want to end with with a
piece from Rakook
because this is actually the piece that
like sparked my sparked my interest in
this in this topic and he said something
fascinating and I I think it's so
relevant to the time that we're in right
now because we've seen the news
constantly about about the the Jewish
people the name of the Jewish people
being dragged in and whether that's the
name of Israel or the Jewish people we
see it being dragged. I saw something
even something silly like there was a
there was a concert maybe in Belgium and
it was a Coldplay concert and uh so
Chris Martin called up this girl to the
stage and she said where are you from
and Sham a horrible thing she said
Israel now he's not even a bad guy this
is not even like an anti-semit
I was talking to someone actually met
him but whatever I don't know I don't
know this is not me I've never met him I
have no idea but I'm assuming I'm I'm
giving him benefit of the doubt but he's
like he had to point out I don't know if
he called up also a Palestinian person
or he had to it's like you can't just be
like, "Oh, that's so sweet. That's so
nice. Great. Nice to meet you." Like,
why is it that we have to we have to be
embarrassed to be a Jew? We have to be
embarrassed to be Israeli. Like the name
of the Jewish people is being dragged in
the mud.
So listen to this cook. He says we have
to have kavana. What does our intention
have to be? We have to have intention to
elevate the Jewish people. That the
status of the Jewish people should be
fixed, should be elevated, should be
beautiful. Because when we do that,
we're going to be able to have our
influence, bring that those values and
influence the world to have them
recognize Hashem and all the values that
we want them to. But he says,
meaning we want to elevate ourselves to
that desire, that spiritual desire for
the salvation of the of all of Israel,
but we can't get there.
I first have to do chuva myself and fix
myself in order for that to take effect.
I can't do chuva for you. It's not my
place. I can only do chuva myself. But
here, what's the what's the novelty
here? What's my intention? Is my
intention because I want to be better?
No. My Yes. But my intention is not just
that I want to be better. It's that I
want the Jewish people to be better. I
want the state of the Jewish people to
be better. I want people to look at the
Jewish people say this is how I want to
be. Right? I want France to look at
Israel and say, "Oh, that's how an army
conducts itself. That's how we deal with
economic issues. That's how we set up a
healthare system. This is that's what I
want. But I can't get there if I don't
work on myself." And he says,
and this is what he says. And if an
individual who works on himself and with
this in mind,
Kulo that's the person who he gets who
he gets elevated he or she is now is
able to now influence the entire world
and get appeasement for the entire world
and not just for themselves because
that's their intention when they're
working on themsel
and everybody can be elevated many
people can be elevated now because we
are all connected we are all one I can
influence other people because
spiritually we are all one as we saw for
and that's what our that's what our
kavana has to be our intention when
we're doing chuva now we're so upset of
what's going on with the Jewish people
to name the Jewish people throughout the
world right we have to have that in mind
that's what I'm going to have in mind
this kiper right but that doesn't mean
that I'm going to tell people well
you're you're a Jew so I'm going to tell
you but by the way you do a lot of
things that are wrong and let me give
you a list of what's wrong with you I'm
going to focus on myself I'm because
that I'm the only one I can I'm the only
one who can fix myself but my intention
is I don't want to just raise myself I
want to raise all the Jewish people
that's also fascinating but before we
start kij what do we do we permit
ourselves to d within right we're
joining together everybody come in we're
all one let's let bygones be gons let's
let's and let's join together and become
one so now if I go back and we can see
all the answers I can see all the
questions that that that we discussed
and we can try to get an idea of it
together right why is what's the
uniqueness of yum kipper versus the rest
of the year the rest of the year I'm
working on myself on yum kipper to focus
is now not on myself. It's on Claw
Israel. It's on the entire sib and I'm
joining together with that sib and I'm
becoming one. And how am I becoming one
with that?
By
I'm returning to the where our souls are
from. That's where it's hidden to
recognize that we're all really one. We
all come from there. We're not separate.
And once we do that and we return to our
source, all the petty fights, everything
that we think that the that you're in my
place and you're I'm in your place, it
falls away. It goes away because I
recognize that we're all really one.
We're all really connected,
right? And that's also and the the and
that's why again for us to gel together.
So that's why we need appeasement
specifically on before Yum Kipper in
order for Yum Kipper to have its
influence because otherwise we're going
to be divided and won't be able to have
that influence.
And so I want to I just want to end with
one with one thing you might have heard
before. It was it came out a while ago.
I think maybe I think at least a year
and a half ago. I think it was near the
beginning of the war. There was a farmer
in northern Saskatchewan, right? So
again, I'm from Canada. I'm from Toronto
and my mom's from Edmonton. So that's
closer, but Saskatchewan is not a place
you're going to find too many Jews.
Right? So this is not a Jew. And he sent
a voicemail. Has anybody heard this
voicemail? No. So I'm I'm going to read
it for you. He sent a voicemail to uh to
Rabbi Mayor Dubrowski who was in Toronto
because Toronto was going to host some
big like walk or not the walk-athon. I
think it was a it was a special uh a
special event, you know, to support
Israel. And he and he and he and this is
the voicemail that he sends. He says, "I
see you're going to have a walk today, a
Jewish walk in Toronto, and I wish I
could be there to support you. We're
busy spraying here and farming. I've
been donating some money to the
Christian Jewish Fellowship Fund over
the last year and I know it's not I know
it's not enough. I know it's not enough,
sir. And he cracks in the You hear him.
He gets like he's getting emotional in
the voice, man. I just I just wish I
could help more. I've known lots of
Jewish people in my lifetime, and
they've always treated me with such
kindness and respect. And I'm so sorry
for what you people are going through in
that lousy big city, Toronto. And I'm
very sorry for the Israeli captives and
all the people that were killed in
October 7th. I'm 70 years old. My knees
are shot, but God, if there was anything
I could do to help over hop over to
Israel, I would jump on a plane in a
minute. I love you guys. I wish you all
the best. I had four uncles in World War
II, sir. One of them didn't come home.
He was killed in northern Italy on
December 27th, 1943. The other three
were in the RAF, the Royal Air Force,
and they made it home by some bloody
miracle. They made it home. And they did
not go over to fight Hitler and to fight
Stalin, to fight that hatred, that
horrible, horrible hatred. They did not
risk their lives and give their lives to
that fight and then have us come home
and their grandchildren dealing with
this. Anyway, like I said, lots of love
here from Saskatchewan. There's lots of
support out here, sir. And if there's
ever anything I can do, please let me
know. Now, it's a very emotional it's a
very emotional message. And I was
thinking, what if we were like that? We
were some instead of instead of it
coming from, you know, some faroff
non-Jew who's a clearly a righteous
person, what if we had those sentiments,
right? That that we feel it's it's it's
so painful and we do we feel that pain
of the Jewish people. So, we but it's an
opportunity that we feel that pain of
the Jewish people because we can walk in
to this Yum Kipper, right? We have
another day to ask forgiveness, to break
down those walls that we built up
between our friends or whatever it is,
to break them down, to join together
with the Jewish people, and to feel to
feel that pain of the the state of the
name of the Jewish people of how it's
being dragged in the mud and to do that
chuva to to work on ourselves, but with
the intention that we're going to not
just lift up ourselves, but lift up the
Jewish people and with that to lift up
the entire world. And with that, we're
going to see tremendous tremendous
this year that are coming and a unity
that we've never seen before. And
everybody should have
