hey good day everybody welcome back to
another episode live from jerusalem with
rabbi aaron uh david poston uh beyond
the seven series uh he's been continuing
with the beautiful work tomer devorah
and today we've got uh lesson six in
this series he's been sharing with us
and it's always a joy to be with him and
i do want to encourage everybody out
there listening um
rabbi and his group given a in jerusalem
do so much work for those in need in his
area
and he's hosting a uh a fun drive uh for
the holiday season for uh rosh hashanah
yom kippur and sukkot uh
so i want to encourage everybody you can
find out where to donate and and be a
part of actually helping those in need
in jerusalem uh at his site yebenay.com
maybe he'll say more about it but i know
he's a humble fellow so uh yeah let's
just tune right in and see how the
rabbi's doing today
shalom rabbi you're live on the air so
good to be with you i am really enjoying
this series and doing my best to take
all kinds of notes so we're going to
turn it over to you
and look forward to hearing what you
have to to to share i noticed your title
you put up for he desires kindness
yeah so malaysia and dan and to all the
listeners and um happy to be here
shavuot
uh just
before we get into today's topic for he
desires kindness just to remind
everybody this is the sixth in the
series already actually i think this is
the seventh
um it's the sixth meda but it might be
the seventh episode
and we're basing it on the book over my
left shoulder which is the tomi devorah
written by the ramak ramosha cordovero
500 years ago in the city of spot the
holy city of slot which i hope to visit
very soon
in the torah itself
and when we talk at the chapter 34 of
exodus
god reveals to moses the 13 attributes
of mercy
in the prophets as we know the prophets
don't reveal anything new they're only
there to either rebuke or to guide the
jewish people in the way they're
supposed to behave so in mecca chapter 7
verses 18 through 20
i'll just read the verses who is a god
like you who forgives iniquity and
passes over the transgressions of the
remnant of his heritage
he does not maintain his anger forever
we've already covered those those are
the first five
then it continues
he for he desires love and kindness that
would be the topic for tonight
i'll just read the rest because the
following verse
verses
he shall return and grant us compassion
he shall hide our iniquities and you
shall cast into the depths of the sea
all their sins
you shall give the truth of jacob
and the love and kindness of abraham
which you swore to our forefathers from
days of your
we as a custom repeat these verses on
rosh hashanah
when we do a ritual called tashlich
where we throw our sins into a body of
water
but again it's based on chapter 34
verse 6 i think verses verse 6 and 7 but
in verse 6 for specifically
i'll read it to you and the lord passed
before him and proclaimed
lord lord benevolent god who's
compassionate and gracious slow to anger
and again these words and abundant in
loving kindness and truth
so in the hebrew in the
exodus verse
abundant
abundant kindness rashi says over there
for those who need loving kindness
because they lack sufficient merits
this is what we're going to talk about
if you don't have
that many misses in fact maybe even god
forbid your work somebody is lacking
and perhaps even full of sin
however hashem is so merciful
you know i don't know where these other
religions come up with their notion of
god
being okay i do i think i do know where
they get it from but everything has to
be looked in full context
not uh cherry picking and different
things
um what i want to mention
before we get into this oh you asked me
about
so yibane our organization is based on
kindness by the way right in fact the
verse that says
the world is built upon
kindness that's how the world is built
upon
um
so the world is built upon kindness so
what we do is we try to encourage
and we
we organize groups
to
be involved in helping the needy of all
sorts whether it's the old age homes
especially during the holidays although
since the pen whatever you want to call
it the uh
the corona
i don't know you can say it whatever you
know um
getting into the old age homes has been
very difficult um but um packing boxes
working in soup kitchens when i say
packing boxes i'm talking about
specifically food food packages for
different organizations and i'm happy to
mention
um that's
every thursday morning in the um
the um it's actually near rabbi which is
shiva it's not far from horsamach
it's like right around the corner
and then um
and then yada eliezer those are two that
are extremely helpful in helping
people in need
and the soup kitchen of course the hiney
soup kitchen we get volunteers all the
time
and people come back and forth from
israel and they it's like the highlight
of their trip
helping people
uh we do have a tradition that there are
three very important character traits
that those who are the descendants the
descendants of abraham isaac and jacob
and anybody could really join number one
but even if you don't fully join you can
still become a
a righteous no kind accepting and
connecting to the god of israel the god
of abraham isaac and jacob who has these
character traits meaning abraham isaac
and jacob which is to be a rahman to
have mercy
compassion on people
number two is to have a be a baishon
which means have modesty
it it usually translates as shame but
shame
it's not the shame in the negative sense
it's a shame in terms of modesty and
blushing
um having a certain sense of modesty
number three is to be a go male hasid to
bestow kindness
so
this is we're creating the image of god
okay so now that we know that these are
the 13 attributes of god one of them is
he loves kindness he desires love and
kindness
um in the hebrew of michael it's
hesitates is
love is a desire a strong desire
for
now even the word
is an interesting word because it could
mean and should mean in our context to
go beyond the letter of the law
right there's truth that's the letter of
the law
is to go beyond the letter of the law so
we talk about somebody who is deserving
a punishment or deserve even the word
punishment we don't like to use but
deserving a
okay i think in this context we will use
punishment usually we understand it to
be correct of measures right god sends a
direct message
so that you will wake up
right to be awoke truly
waking up from your slumber of your sins
and hopefully the message that he's
giving you
if you're
if you're honest enough
that you will figure it out that this is
must be what you're doing because this
is the media connected meter the measure
for measure this is the message god is
sending me and therefore i'm going to
figure out what it is that i'm
missing you know that's what a sin is
you're missing the mark
you're uh off
off
off off the off the tracks
okay
so
hashem will mitigate right out of his
love for kindness will
let's say reduce
again that punishment and maybe give
that message more directly without
causing that much damage
okay so having that in the background
we'll start with
the words themselves within the safer oh
so what i wanted to say let me just
stick to this one point so so we have we
collect
money
in order to distribute to the needy
and uh everyone's checked out they're
coming from either rabbis or leaders in
the community people who have um you
know financial distress and whatnot
and 100 of the funds that we raise is
distributed it's distributed 100
that is awesome
and so the thing is that we normally
start our
campaign two weeks before rosh hashanah
yom kippur and sukis in order to
distribute but the truth is it takes a
long time
for us to actually receive the money it
doesn't actually go into our account
sometimes it takes almost a month
so
we started a little bit early
and we're actually because why do we
start a little bit early we also have
more uh
miles to feed and therefore we're asking
for uh more money to raise trying to
raise more money to distribute
so we're just getting a little bit you
know starting a little bit early right
after
tishbo we started the campaign so they
can get a link at yibbenet.com
that's that's right they can go to
givenet.com or at least when i post this
video it'll be below
in the description box and maybe i don't
know maybe you can put it as well sure
okay
i'll put it in uh
so that's what we do okay now
what does it mean he desires kindness as
i mentioned the kindness has it like a
haseed someone who's we call them uh
you translate that in english as pious i
don't know if that's a great translation
but like they're the um the ultra
orthodox that are strict that are
stringent right because
when it comes to the letter of the law
that might be very nice but we want to
go and god really wants us
this itself
as we will discuss tonight is an example
god really wants us to go beyond the
letter of law
he wants us
to experience what we call the spirit of
the law in fact there's a gomorrah a
talmud says that jerusalem
was destroyed
because we kept the torah
and everyone asked obviously how can
that be how can that be we kept the law
and jerusalem was destroyed so the
gomorrah says because we kept to the
letter of the law we didn't go beyond
the letter of the law which is exactly
what hashem wants
i hope that is a clear understanding
heart's got to be in it right
yep yep yep
okay so let's begin the beautiful words
of the ramak
hello pirates new bill mcconnell
we have explained elsewhere
you do
there is a place in heaven okay wherever
wherever heaven is we're talking about
even now
somewhere in the upper spheres
there are angels in the this specific
um room
where there's a tribunal taking place
and they're appointed these angels are
appointed
to receive the kind deeds that each
person does in this world
truth be told there are angels that we
create when we do sins as well
so there's um you know there's a battle
right someone is sitting there right now
even though we're not in heaven but
there are these
angelic forces let's just say energy
that we have created
that is testifying right now
about our good deeds and our bad deeds
so
all of these
positive acts that we have done
are
they themselves the the acts themselves
create these energies and the energies
the very fact that they exist
testify on our behalf that we're pretty
good decent people which is fantastic
truth is it goes the other way around
too right
so what happens kashira mira tadin
when the opposite is happening when we
have sinned and there are these negative
angelic forces
just their being is testifying
on
against us
immediately
immediately so these defending angels
are activated as soon as we do an act of
hesit an act of kindness
they're activated and they're testifying
on our behalf
the karush baraku is
israel
and then hashem is showing his mercy
he's be he's acting in a merciful way
because of the kind deeds we did
and it's because of this thing that he
loves
because he loves kindness
since he loves it so much so then when
the the smallest
right we might not be living the
greatest a life full of acid but as soon
as we perform even the smallest act of
hazard these angels these angelic forces
run forth and begin to testify on our
behalf
isn't that a beautiful thing
even if the person is guilty of all
kinds of other
crimes and and
sins
but as long as the jewish people as long
as anyone and this trust me this goes
across the board for the whole world
as long as people are starting to act
with hassan towards each other
a tremendous amount of
the sin is mitigated is is reduced
right in god's judgment
i just want to break for a second
because i was learning with my cabrusa
in the gemara
it's more brofos 4b
i want to pull it up
it says like this
it's it's a little bit awkward because
it talks about angels
and it mentions how the different angels
let's say they fly
so apparently mikh and the gamora goes
into the details of how we learn this
out
but mikhail which is a
let's say a merciful angel
uh full of mercy he when he jumps to do
a mission god sends the angel on a
mission he does it all in one flight
meaning he doesn't even stop to rest
anywhere
he does it in one flight
like i mentioned the gemara itself goes
into how it's learned from different
verses
gavriel
which is the angel of din and judgment
so it takes him two flights even though
god sends him on a mission now that
mission usually is going to involve
judgment
i'm going to use the word punishment but
judgment let's say
it takes two flights what's the point
why would gabrielle have to rest in the
middle in other words one flight to
start with but he must rest take take a
uh
a rest stop just
a breather
and why do you think that is well let me
just continue with the rest of the bryce
of the gomorrah discusses elijah the
prophet
he flies in four flights when hashem
sends them the angel of death eight
flights meaning he's he rests seven
times
now if there's a plague and hashem is
very angry and upset
then he'll take just one flight
so now wrap your head around this hashem
is full of mercy
for example michael will fly immediately
all the way to his destination as we
know angels there's no space
or time
but basically mikhail
will
immediately
do what
execute
the mission that god sent him on where's
gabrielle
why does he rest
in order that the person do chuva right
hashem is full of mercy he's full of
compassion and he really desires for the
people for anybody who sinned to turn
the life around and of course the angel
of death
it rests seven times before it comes and
gets you
however as it said during a plague it
will take just one flight
okay
yeah just a side point
it's not brought down here but i thought
that would be very interesting
so now what is hashem doing hashem
he is so in love with this idea
that the jews in this case all all of
humanity anybody that's human
is acting kindly with one another and
hashem will immediately have mercy and
compassion on
them now commercial hype is
now this is an example from ezekiel
chapter 10 verse 2.
now it's quite complicated because
there's many
terms that are used let's just say in
kabbalistic terms you know we're talking
about the chariot
um and we're talking about wheels
and there are different basically
there's description different angels
and what's taking place but this is
based on a gemara
and actually it's quoted in vaika raba
26 8. but here's like the the shortened
version
so this is how it was at the time of the
destruction of the basa mikdash
it says in
ezekiel 10 verse 2
um come between the ophanim o'family the
truth is the word of father doesn't
appear there in that verse appears later
it's gagalin or liga
that means wheels but later on obviously
the wheels and euphanim are the same
it's the types of angels
so
as
he says
right we're discussing this angel or
angelic force that is the officer of
judgment and gevorah which is din
judgment
the nitan lo rashoos le cabel koko sadin
and he is given permission to receive
the powers of judgment between the
ophanim which are underneath the kruvim
from the fire on them his bath so these
are some kind of hot coals that are
going to go out and obviously
destroy things
okay so basically the judgment of the
gevorah of mahrus and the judgment would
grow stronger and stronger until it
would want to destroy everything
and even to exterminate the jewish
people
for they were deserving of annihilation
and we know that that did not happen
hashem had mercy and it was delayed and
it was delayed in other words mitigated
um to no end basically
as you can read in verses eight and
seven of the fresco the kuru theme
appeared to have the form of a hand
under their wings
that is that hashem said to gabrielle
this is what he said to him you know
they act with kindness one to another
even if they are guilty they will be
saved and have a remnant in other words
god will not wipe out the remnant
god will not write wipe out the seed of
israel and that's the bottom line okay
so we see it in
ezekiel chapter 10 you can read the
verses and the commentary of
course now
the time the reason for this
they've named me the zoo because of this
very trait which we discussed is
hashem desires kindness
meaning to say
the very fact that the jewish people are
being kind to each other
see even so when basically what does it
mean
god is desiring the kindness it's he
desires the jews in this case we are a
uh
a light to the nations how we treat each
other hopefully the world should have
learned this lesson by now
but unfortunately perhaps we're not
the greatest examples we have to improve
ourselves so this is about us and this
is really about me who am i right i have
so much work to do
so when israel acts kindly
and this aspect he remembers for their
merit even if they're guilty in all
other respects
and that's
the end of that paragraph however he
goes on
therefore it is proper for a person to
behave with this attribute in kane
we we have this concept called in hebrew
to judge others favorably truth is
there's a verse that says
you shall
judge
your my people righteously
so the the what does it mean righteously
means
on the favor of righteousness
so when we see somebody
and it's fitting to judge them
improperly when i say improperly i mean
obviously i mean properly but negatively
that one should actually try their best
they're darndest
to judge favorably
now i want to mention by the way there
is i think we talked about this before
there is a philosophy within um brezlav
called azimra
azamra azamra
so what i want to do is go through a
little bit of what it says in the kute
maharan
the le coute maran is one of the
famous book uh written by the student of
rabbi nachman
and it's in 282
bet
and it's one of the most famous and he
tells his students out of all my
teachings this teaching you have to take
with you it's the most important thing
that a person must always judge
favorably
even when they're perceived as doing
evil
now you have to search for something
now everybody everybody who's ever born
must have done something nice
now what's what how's this going to let
me just go back and talk about the
general theme of the entire book
what we do when we act like hashem in
these attributes
we're affecting i know this is very
difficult to grasp
because god is not affected by anything
but he makes himself as if he's affected
and that attribute of mercy comes into
the world
we've talked about this in the beginning
of the series
it's caviar as if
and therefore we are somewhat
in control
of world destiny if we want
to have mercy come into the world
we want hashem to act merciful
we act merciful and therefore the
energy of mercy then comes into the
world that's really the whole basis for
this concept in this book and the series
so
back to the original idea that we were
talking about in that judgment
when
we're guilty of so many things but we're
acting kindly
and we're doing such hesit and sadaka
and charity with others
what ends up happening is that hashem
will mitigate the punishment
minimize it
and grant mercy because he desires that
it's such a great desire of hashem that
we behave this way that he'll reward it
i mean he'll make it known that this is
exactly what i want and you're
fulfilling it even though the person or
people are not acting so so rightly
so here too when you see somebody what's
happening
you're seeing that person
doing so many bad things but if you can
imagine in your head
that he must have been kind to one
person in his life
or he or she
that they probably do some some right
it activates
those angels those angels that have been
activated by that person's um
good acts
you're acting as another witness right
there needs to be two innocents so if
those angels are singular they're not
that many right but you are testifying
to their good acts
because you're imagining where you know
that they did at least one good act
it is going to affect them
their judgment
we also spoke in the past that you
should look at the whole world actually
you should look at yourself
okay it doesn't matter which one you go
first with let's just say you should
look at yourself as if you're in the
balance all you need to do is one kind
act and then you are no longer in in 50
50 but you are now to the merit
and what you do will affect the whole
world
we've talked about but this is
the way it actually comes to be
by looking at other people as well if
you're on the side of the negativity
you're adding fuel to the fire so to
speak for them and they're going to be
judged harshly and negatively
but when you're able to look at them and
know that it must be something they did
right because god wants you to look at
that way because he desires kindness he
himself wants to be kind
so if you could be of assistance to him
number one the way you judge others is
the way you're going to be judged by
others
so it's kind of selfish which is fine
but you're also helping the entire world
by bringing in this metaphysical energy
coming from the heavens so to speak
so i'm going to continue with the idea
that the lacute maran ramnoch breslav
continues to
teach teaches students
you must find something good
in that one thing that makes him not
totally evil
and we actually elevate that person
through that merit
again
the
at least in the eyes of hashem
as well as the heavenly court
this is going to help him in judgment so
too it's going to help all of israel
and this is another thing it's actually
can help the person to do chuva
you have
the ability
to assist obviously the ability the the
choice of doing true is squarely on the
person
but we talked about before how hashem's
kindness and compassion
could bring in others we're fully guilty
and yet hashem doesn't wipe us out and
he keeps us around because he knows he
believes in us
that we're going to do trueva that this
will also help and assist the person to
do truva by judging him favorably
how it works
don't i don't know fully but we have an
idea
it could stir something within his heart
so basically what you're doing is you're
changing that person's status in heaven
um
yeah
okay there is a verse in psalms 37 10
we don't have to read any of the
commentaries
but
it says just a little longer it's psalms
37 10
just a little longer
and there will be no wicked one
what do you think this is talking about
you can con you will contemplate his
place
he will not be there now simple shot the
simple way is listen the guy's evil he's
going to be wiped out snuffed out he
ain't going to be around
but the way that robin achman explains
this is by contemplating the positive
the merits the kindness that that person
did
you're helping to wipe out
and mitigate the punishment
and help him to do truva so just a
little
a little longer and there will be no
wicked one he won't be wicked anymore
you will really meditate upon his place
things that he did positively
anyway that's just another side point
um by the way in our talk which is in
our daily prayers
okay there's certain days that we don't
do this but we rest our hand
over our head over our hand
and we say certain verses
so there's a verse in
second samuel chapter 24
verse 14.
okay it's second samuel 24
verse 14.
ii samuel 24 verse 14 says and david
said to god i am greatly oppressed let
us fall now into the hand of the lord
for his mercies are great but into the
hand of man
let me not fall
now david had sinned he counted the
people he shouldn't have counted the
people there was a plague
uh where let's say there was a threat of
a plague and it was actually a threat of
you know
david can choose between different
things that could happen he chose he
chose the plague but it ended early but
basically
he's
contemplating
right what what's worse this the
punishments of god when god has
vengeance to take out
or the vengeance of man
so he clearly says
david said to god i'm exceedingly
distressed let us fall into the hand of
hashem
for her his mercies are abundant but let
me not fall into human hands
we spoke about this probably in the past
as well
hashem only wants to that's what he
really wants to do he wants to forgive
he really does
man
i'll tell you something
man could be rough
man could be rough i mean
listen hashem has the ability to
um
you know um let's say forgive
for the sins that you do against him
he's got no problem
what kind of harm did you do
but when you harm a human being you
really need their
you need their um their forgiveness
so it's much harder to pacify a human
being
you know hashem is
relatively easy
okay just keep that in mind that's what
king david is saying
okay
um
[Music]
okay let's continue
therefore it's proper for a person to
behave with this attribute
right even if um towards a person who
harmed you or angered you
should
mate
i'm sorry i skipped something
over if the person has a good side just
one single thing
then shemati vlaherim
if he has a positive side for example he
acts kindly towards others omidatova or
some other positive trait
shamina
in which he acts properly
so
that should be enough to negate the
anger that a person has towards this
person
may i love the yerza libo emo
and not enough to subdue your own anger
against the person
to be um appeased
um
the yacht
and and desire kindness for this person
and this is what you should say to
yourself daily beto the sushi yes low
it's good enough he has that one good
point that's good enough for me
i mean come on
this is a big problem for so many of us
i am
i'm in on this okay so i'm working on
this myself
now the last paragraph he wants to
stress about a spouse
right
and there's a good morning yavamos 63a
63a or 63b
i'll tell you it's um
63a which i'll read in a second
so he says like this
though how much more so for your spouse
especially a man towards his wife
as the rabbis say in gamora yo vamos
you know
we're going to see a story about a
rabbi's wife she did everything opposite
of what he wanted
every he says bring me bread she brought
him uh rice bring me uh potato she
brought him you know green beans
it was okay it sounds
superficial we'll have to see
that she did everything the opposite
anyway it should be enough we should say
to ourselves right
[Music]
we should really thank our wives and our
husbands right for whatever they do for
us in fact for our wives they raise our
children i mean that is a big job
okay it's it's huge we men don't have a
clue
right we have a little bit of a clue but
we have no idea how much goes into it
and um
so we should be so grateful
and as well as they save us from sin
so too everyone should say about
everyone else
yeah what should they say it's enough
for me
this good deed that he did for me or
someone else
or this good trait that he has and
therefore emulate this idea of
kaffitschka
just like hashem desires acid we should
see the positive in others
so i want to quote this gamora here for
you
um do i have it right here
yeah
okay
so rod's wife would constantly aggravate
him when he would say to her
prepare for me lentils
she would give him peace
if he asked for peace
she would prepare the opposite lentils
was his son
and when he grew up you know what he did
as a really you know you would think it
was a good son right
so now when his father says you know ask
mom to get me the peas
he thought he was so smart he went to
his mom and says you know dad wants the
lentils
and of course she would prepare the peas
in other words he thought he was smarter
than his dad his dad couldn't figure it
out all these years just ask for the
opposite if she's going to give him the
opposite ask for what you don't want
right
you're with me
he's with me
okay
so
when he grew up he would reserve
reverse the requests
that rav asked him to convey to her so
the brav would get what he wanted
so ralph said to his son here you know
ever since you started um
conveying the messages that i what i
want
uh
let's see you know what i mean let's see
what happens
so he
says your mother has improved now that
you convey my request
so he said back to his father
it is i who reverse your request
ralph said to him
see
this is not right what he's basically
saying you didn't do the right thing
this is a well-known
adage that people say he who comes from
you shall teach you wisdom
i should have thought of that idea
myself you however should not do so
you're not supposed to do this right it
says in jeremiah 9 4
they have taught their tongue to speak
lies they weary themselves to commit
iniquity
meaning
now if you reach a tribute such a
request to me
you will have uttered a falsehood that's
not what i said i said lentils you went
ahead and you changed the words
and you did the wrong thing can you
imagine
i would have said
without thinking about this
you know why not
you're getting what i really want so
just say the opposite
no
so you have to be honest and truthful
the gomorrah relates a similar story
wife so
is the son who
thought he was doing so great for his
father he ends up with a wife who would
aggravate him
nevertheless he would find something she
would appreciate he would wrap it up in
his show and bring it to her in other
words the idea is to appreciate even
those that people that aggravate you
even those people that just rub you the
totally wrong way you got to find some
way to look for the appreciation and
even ralph said to him doesn't she
constantly aggravate you why do you
bring her things
so
said
isn't it enough for us that our wives
raise our children and save us from sin
it's exactly what his father taught him
long ago
and bottom line is we should show our
gratitude to them
and we have to find some reason to want
to show our gratitude this is the way of
hashem
hashem chose
us
as his priests
and again any any non-jew
can join
fully
or even as a benoit
to the point of being at like the rambam
says the status of a high priest
if you have fully accepted the god of
israel
you don't have to join the jewish people
i know many do and they do
become full-fledged righteous
converts
but as this
station and your organization
the nocai world center
is to accept
a few things
except the one true god of israel as the
creator of the universe
to um to understand that the torah
itself was given at mount sinai by god
that it's the same torah that was given
to moses that we have today
and to support the jewish people in
their mission from afar
okay you can be a
we don't have the status of the
gyartosha but that would be uh from
close up
for those who know what i'm talking
about and of course to become a
full-fledged gert tedic
that's uh
free choice whatever you want to do
um but there's so much more provide this
in one of your last uh
sessions i think it was two weeks ago
uh you did a live session from ibn and
it was uh beautifully well explained
um in this week's spa show we speak
about that the nations will say well you
know
this is your understanding in your
wisdom you know we we
you have something that we want
so whether you're a righteous gentile
and you grab the census you grab the
corner of the garment of the jew and say
we know that god is with you teach us
um it's just it's wisdom it's ancient
wisdom and there's no so you know i
don't like the word ancient but i'd
rather say it's new age there's nothing
new under the sun so whatever is new is
not new okay
it's all
it's always been there we just
hopefully people will have the veil
removed from their eyes
you know growing up in the church so
many people have
inbred so much anti-semitism and and
they're closed off
from
the wisdom of the torah because they
think if you just look up actually that
probably changed but it used to be if
you looked up the word pharisee
in the webster's dictionary i hope they
changed it
but it used to be
um liars and hypocrites
yeah because of the um
because of the christian doctrine
um but the truth is
once you begin to learn what the jews
have to say
remember that the church was
adamant against
and first of all still is but against
asking questions
probably reading
till this day reading
the the tanakh in the original hebrew
they just want you to use their
authorized versions
which are corrupted
listen i'm i'm preaching to the the
choir here you know i think you're all
pretty much aware of this idea
but once you begin to understand
the the the torah is not at all what you
were taught
um and then you see the beauty
and the wisdom
and it's not us
it's it's god it's it's his wisdom and
hopefully we can live to be
true you know express it in a true
fashion
so those righteous gentiles can actually
play a big part in the redemption
by mentioning to any jews they know who
are
far from the torah to get back into the
program
right
i know i know quite a few righteous
gentiles that when they get an
opportunity to speak to what they call a
secular jew or an unaffiliated jew uh is
to um
you know
show them the beauty of their own
of their own heritage and help them get
back into it
so yeah we we cut it kind of short
but that oh no there's a whole bunch of
other
expressions i pretty much really covered
everything but the book goes on with
another eight pages
um explaining pretty much what we said
i'll just mention uh one short paragraph
when a person who has been wronged or
angered
and he can find no way to judge the
perpetrator favorably
he can soothe his anger by remembering a
good deed the perpetrator once did or
thinking about a good trait he might
have if by doing so he manages to soothe
his own anger
he awakens hashem's merciful attribute
of for he desires kindness
bringing that element of mercy into the
world that pretty much i would say sums
up the whole thing here
wow
um how it works
there is an idea i mean even from a
selfish point of view we have a verse
you know charity sir saves from death
right you know that uh that that pasic
uh tsudaka
matsumi made
charity saves from death
so um you know if you want to look it
from a negative point i mean a per a
a selfish point of view
so why not
right and even a ben no who wants to
give charity in order to get a reward or
in order to
save himself from death why not
why not
but understand the global aspect that
this is what the whole world is based on
right
the whole world is founded upon okay so
if we're not doing hess it really it's a
destructive thing
so hear what he has to say now
when a harsh decree a harsh decree
hoovers over the jewish people
for our misdeeds
who has the power to overcome it
who can stand in our defense
who can hold back the destruction that
looms over us
a kind deed can do all these things
and he goes on to describe exactly what
we already said there are angels in
heaven whose job is to guard the merit
of the acts of kindness we have
performed
when the attribute of strict judgment
raises accusations against us
those angels stand before hashem bearing
in their hands the kind deeds we have
done
here this money was given to charity and
they say here was a favor he did for a
neighbor where he gave a drink to
someone who was thirsty or he gave food
for the hungry
here was this helping hand a caring ear
a shoulder to lean on
here was a favor here was a loan all
these things are going to be
um
coming to your defense
on the great
and awesome day of judgment
and that day of judgment is here it's
always going on we're judged every
moment don't wait until rosh hashanah
don't wait until the day of your death
every single day we are being judged
of course not
ultimate judgment but we are being
judged
every single day and every single moment
it mentions all yeah all these acts of
kindness are stored in a special chamber
in heaven when the attribute of strict
judgment raises its accusations they
stand before hashem
in their merit hashem has mercy on bane
israel saying as we know he desires
kindness
even if we're guilty and deserving of
punishment he will deal kindly if we
deal kindly with one another hashem has
mercy on us
okay i can go on and on and on
all
right some really
there is here's another idea
i'm sure
there's an expression in english and
maybe this is it
do not throw a stone into the well from
which you drank
so this is going back into the ancient
uh midrash sources
can you imagine i mean
you have to see the appreciation
appreciate it
just the act of throwing a rock into a
well now i understand that if if the
well you can't reach the water you know
you have a rope and the you know so i
guess you can throw in
um certain rocks that will raise the
water level i get that point
but that's not what they're talking
about you're talking about you have an
appreciation for something and then
you're throwing a rock and you're
showing you don't appreciate it right
so
yeah the major says do not throw a stone
into a well from which you drank
did the well mean to do us any favors
okay this is a very important point the
well is just an inanimate object
seemingly right
does the well feel offended if you throw
a rock into it of course not but we must
train ourselves to show honor and
appreciation to those who have benefited
us regardless of all other
considerations in other words even if
they did a kind act they had no
intention
of you in mind
or even the kindness they just did it
even for their own selfish reasons
we should look at that and appreciate
that they did for us
here the baal shem tov says it we must
appreciate the acts of kindness people
do
even if they do them for selfish reasons
the baal shem tov taught that whereas
purity of intent is important there's no
question about that
especially when we do other misses
it is not crucial to the mitzvahs of
kindness and charity it's not crucial
obviously it would be great if we did
have proper intent when we do
uh acts of kindness and charity but in
the end the recipient benefits from our
kindness regardless of our intent
so there is a statement by our sages in
gemara breakfast 5b
they say whether one does much or little
the main thing is that the intent be for
the sake of heaven however when it comes
to charity that sama zedek said to the
contrary it doesn't matter what your
intent is whether it's proper or not the
main thing is you should give
and maybe give a lot as well
okay so this really fits in well
with our idea of you know
doing the uh
uh campaign early
right um
there is a lot to say about that in that
prophecy in yeshusko
might as well read it because what it
does
it will give a little bit of clarity
okay when the decree went forth from
hashem to destroy the bait to mikdash he
summoned the angel gabriel and
instructed him to gather handfuls of
burning coals from an angel called
kerouf
and scattered them upon the jewish
people obviously these were no mere
physical calls but a representation of
the destruction that would be let loose
upon the jewish people
since gabrielle was unable to enter the
domain of the caruth he asked it as a
favor to pass him two burning coals in
such a way that he would not be burnt by
them
now the verse states the crew carried
over and gave
the coals to gabrielle
the expression carried over is used to
imply that the coals were actually
cooled a little bit before being handed
over
furthermore gabrielle tarried in his
mission for six years so this idea of
gabrielle we said takes
more time than michael
he tarried in his mission for six years
allowing the calls to even further cool
down
in his hands thus lessening the severity
of the suffering that the jewish people
would endure
this also gave the jewish people an
opportunity to do chuva see
it's also the whole reason for the delay
after six years when gabriel saw the
jewish people still did not regret or
repent
he finally decided to go ahead and
scatter the colds upon them but hashem
kept him from doing it hashem stayed his
hand he said gabriel gavriel these there
are people among them who practice
charity with others
this was the message of yahushua's
prophecy in which a hand was seen from
under the wings of the ruvim in verse 8
this represented the jewish people's
acts of charity because the hand
represents one hand giving to another
that's how charity is done with the hand
our sages conclude from here that heaven
and earth
are supported by the hand of charity
which goes back to the concept of
oil
the world
is
built foundations
upon charity
okay so that's it
shem will do um
the next chapter the next time and i
don't know when that will be
um let's see number seven
is
after chuva he will have mercy on us
okay that's going to be exciting
and that is much longer than anything
we've done so far
okay so that is
in in a few weeks i don't know exactly
when but in a few weeks right this year
well we look forward to it if it's uh as
good as today's message i want to thank
you you really opened up my eyes on some
topics that i've had difficulty with for
a lot of years and just start to bring
in a perspective on
a greater
understanding and thank you so much
rabbi beautiful beautiful stuff i
appreciate everything that you guys do
at yibbene uh you're really a stellar
example of
how
people can be
uh
kinder to their communities and develop
and grow and uh it's just a joy to uh
get to spend time in and learn torah uh
uh with you and uh uh thank you so much
rabbi and i want to encourage everybody
you know support yibbene uh they've got
this upcoming uh
fundraiser where they're trying to raise
money uh for the the holiday season so
they can support people in jerusalem and
uh if you have a given heart and you
want to do an act of kindness you can go
to yibonay.com and uh find the link
there and support them and uh 100
of everything donated will be going to
uh
good uh uh useful uh acts of kindness in
the city of jerusalem and it's just a
joy to know somebody that does that
degree of 100 percent i mean we see too
often in this day and age i've heard as
many charities that eat up as about as
much as 98
of all donated funds in administrative
uh costs and whatever and uh
sadly that leaves two percent to get to
the source i mean and when you're
committed at a hundred percent uh it's a
joy to know somebody who's actually
paying it all forward and uh yeah
and we're able to do that because we do
receive from funds outside i have to
tell you you know
since we started this campaign we've
received more funds outside of the
campaign i'm i don't know what happened
i don't know why people are not donating
to the campaign we really would like to
uh to up the ante no we love that people
are donating and we were using it for
the salaries of the teachers and whatnot
and for other projects
but it would be nice if um people know
that this particular campaign is going
directly
so we would like to be able to raise
that money in the next i guess it's five
six weeks
yep excellent well i i encourage
everybody yeah feel free to support
yibane uh they're doing some wonderful
work and i enjoy everything on their
youtube channel you've been a uh youtube
channel
a lot of shares there with rabbi poston
and rabbi uh brightowitz that are just
you know beautiful and and food for the
soul so thank you so much for today's
lesson rabbi and i look forward to
hearing back from you and we'll keep
everybody posted when we're going to be
back with uh part seven in this beyond
the seven series uh of tomorrow devorah
uh so we'll let you know um so please
keep an eye out for the posts and uh
thank you once again rabbi poston and we
wish you well have a wonderful wonderful
week everybody bye for now
