Robert Obama wants to welcome you to the
late partial show welcome they pass your
show rabbi towba being an expert scribe
is right now finishing up on the last
few letters of this newly written Torah
I was actually with Robert at about two
weeks to go but I figured I would put
that in this week's light partial show
because this week's Torah portion called
vfe is the last Torah portion of the
book of Genesis the first of the five
books of Moses
hey so it's late Thursday night not so
late 11 p.m. to be exact
there's this away that's true I yeah I
guess compared to usually filming us at
4:00 in the morning it's pretty early
for me well I guess now they do it's
pretty cool actually yeah you wouldn't
think I'm in a closet with this
background behind me thank you
what are you oh you're putting all this
money yes a closet with all these holy
books how cool is that and it's a
perfect set you know and you would never
know oh that's that's you putting them
away you weren't even gonna put them in
the shelf what yeah what is this just
like the closet is book to the back this
thing no I don't think it's a nope
what are you okay okay well on this
week's Torah portion Jacob passes on
Jacob feeling his final moments gives
his last words and parting blessings to
his grandsons from Joseph and all of his
sons to his sons Shimon and Levy his
final words were a rebuke there was once
a man named shotgun he was prince of a
place named chicken her for father Jacob
had a daughter named Dina that once went
into this town and was raped by Shem two
of Jacob's sons Shimon and lady were
furious about this and went and killed
the entire male population of the city
of Shem for this violent act jacob
rebukes his sons actually jacob did
agree with what they did he just didn't
agree with how they did it but what i
want to share with you now is a literal
translation of part of the rebuke for in
their anger they killed amen
yeah that was it in case you missed it
for in their anger they killed a man
[Music]
yeah first of all put those books back
then clean up those hangers but yeah
you're right a man they killed an entire
city okay so the lights in the closet
just turned off on us so don't worry
we're gonna give the answer to that
question because it
great question because like why does the
verse say that they killed a man when
they killed many men but uh let's figure
out how to get the lights on right kind
of an awkward position okay so I found
another closet there's just a guy
speaking on a microphone outside and
this closet has the light on and a tree
and a fridge these closets are awesome
okay so I'm sure there's a lot of
answers to why Jacob uses a singular
term man instead of men which was
actually the case but the one I want to
share with you is that the term does
this deliberately to make us think when
the chimin and lady kill just one man
perhaps Jacob is referring to some other
murder Shimon and lady committed not the
one we know about that happened in China
and this teaches us an extremely
valuable lesson when doing harm in any
way verbally physically it doesn't make
a difference to another even with very
holy motives we can god forbid acquire
in nature that can even warrant us being
accused of harming others but when
acting generously with kindness towards
others even with first selfish motives
we can actually acquire a truly generous
and kind nature to the point that all we
truly want is goodness
for our fellow shabbat shalom
