9 Days, 9 Thoughts: Day 8
868 views
What if the key to bringing Mashiach is simply choosing to be kind? It’s a power we all have. And it starts with how we treat one another. Watch as our EVP, Rabbi Dr. Josh Joseph, shares his perspective on the quiet strength of kindness in our 9 Days, 9 Thoughts series.

What does it mean to lose the Beit Hamikdash? It's
not just a physical building. We lost the moment,
says Rabbi Yussie Zakutinsky, when we could
connect with Hakadosh Baruch Hu as if we were
at our own wedding filled with love, that every
moment we see everything through that love. Even
when terrible things happen- Rabbi Akiva, at the
end of the Gemara in Makkot, goes up to the Beit
Hamikdash and he starts to laugh. He sees in
that moment the ability to connect with God
even in his pain, and maybe especially in his
pain. How do we do that? How do we connect?
How do we remind ourselves of this love, of
our purpose, of our mission? How do we remind
ourselves to smile as Rabban Gamliel smiles, how
do we do it? Says Rav Ashlag, the Baal Hasulam,
if we can find one person and take care of all
of their needs and they pay it on and pass it
forward to the next person and to the next person
and to the next person, that is bringing Mashiach.
That is the Beit Hamikdash. That is what we have
to do to try to focus on others, to be giving, and
to remind ourselves of that opportunity to connect
with Hakadosh Baruch Hu, to connect back to Yom
Simchat Libo, a day that right now is in pain,
but that can remind us once again of that smile.
