Jeremy Gimpel Travel Log #4 - Florence
494 views

so it's one of my last days in Italy and
we're in Florence and we take the kids
to the da Vinci Museum and they're
playing with all of his engineering and
they're having a great time and we're
going around all around Florence and
we're seeing all of the art and with the
all the tour guide who's not a very
Godly Man is saying this is Donatello's
art and he was the master Michelangelo
learned under Donatello and this is the
David and he was so proud of the David
I'm like you know I live in the
mountains of King David and then he said
this is a picture of a prophet in Israel
this is a picture of Jesus and this here
is a sculpture of Hercules that's
battling some other Greek god this is
the art of the Renaissance and then he
revealed to me the heart of the Italian
people and that's when I really
understood he said you know these
primitive superstitious people ancient
people they used to believe in these
gods in the Catholic church because of
the confusion of Greek mythology and
because of the confusion of their gods
they've made everyone throw out the true
God of Israel
