Israel Uncensored: Poway and the New York Times

[Music] Josh hastened here Israel uncensored on the Land of Israel Network at the Land of Israel calm it is Monday the 29th of April 2019 the 24th of Nisan 5 779 for those out there who were celebrating the holiday of pestsof Passover hope you had a joyous festival I certainly did traveling throughout the land of Israel going on hikes in the north getting to see and explore this beautiful country of ours especially ever after a winter of so much rain these streams are flowing the flowers are blooming it is a great time to be here in Israel it was a wonderful Passover hope you enjoyed on today's program we're going to talk about everything going on in the world of news affecting Israel and the Jewish people there's so much to say especially after all the events of this past weekend and we'll start here of course with the Habad shooting in Poway a suburb of San Diego California a terrorists murdered Laurie Gilbert k ash a mia combed the mob they got a venture blood 60 years old in the synagogue they're in Southern California she was murdered when a 19 year old burst into the synagogue opened fire according to reports Gilbert Kaye was killed trying to protect rabbi al goldstein the congregation's rabbi who lost several fingers in the incident and it is truly a tragedy it's a horrible story the fact that Laurie Gilbert Kaye was murdered and at the same time more and more as we go along more and more stories are emerging of what exactly happened there in the Habad that shows the true heroism of the Jewish people more and more people coming forward explaining how they saved children including the rabbi who confronted the gun the gunman raising his hands and heading and having his fingers literally blown off escorting the children out of the building while the gunman's gun jammed and his own you can see now the rabbi on social media and remains free media talking about how he was saving literally his his granddaughter it was one of the children there in the social hall escorting her and the other children out of the building Gilbert Kaye the woman who was murdered six years old leaves behind a husband and twenty two-year-old a daughter and people are pouring in with different eulogies and anecdotes stories about her life and just how and how much of an unbelievable person she was again it happened on the last day of Passover Saturday morning 11:30 local time a gunman came in firing ten bullets killing Gilbert K wounding three others according to local law enforcement the event the massacre the shooting took place exactly 60 months six months rather to the day after the Pittsburgh tree of life synagogue shooting there were several Israelis who were hurt as well including eight-year-old Noah Jehan who was hit by shrapnel in the face and the leg her family had relocated to the u.s. to San Diego from starett of all places trying to get some peace and quiet fleeing the rocket attack since Tehran and as much as I encourage people on this show and in general in life to make alia and to be here in the Land of Israel I'm certainly not going to judge this family you had enough of the rocket attacks yet another irony here is that the little girl's uncle al Moke parrots who was visiting he himself a hero also from the town of steroid who helped usher out the children saving lives what I understand apparently he ran back into the synagogue to help along with the rabbi to usher in another child and then I just saw a video now a few minutes ago on the Internet of a third synagogue member risking his life to save children there according to Times of Israel this is unreal Almo parrots the Israeli man wounded was able to quickly protect children from harm during the attack due to his instincts those which he honed over years rushing to the shelters to hide from thousands of rockets fired by terror groups in Gaza so you never know why you're here on this earth you never know why things happen and for 15 years under fire al mugged parrots probably didn't realize that he was on a mission and I truly believe this he was running from rockets for 15 years perhaps I believe perhaps getting ready in order to run in and protect these children get them out of the line of fire the gunman then this anti-semite jew-hating gunman then ran once his gun jammed outside of the building he was chased by an armed border policeman who was at the at the synagogue actually who was off-duty who was able to get off a few rounds fire at the terrorists as he fled the terrorist was apprehended by the authorities you're talking about a guy who had a I believe a manifesto talking about his hate for Jews his hate for Trump actually so all those who say that these attacks occur because of Trump this gentleman this murderer is horrible evil along with the one who carried out the Pittsburgh massacre these people are not fans of presidents room they hate Trump this is pure anti-semitism I know some people will turn around and blame the president yet I just saw also on the internet the rabbi thanking President Trump for showing his support calling the by speaking on the phone for 10-15 minutes showing his support for the community there in the San Diego suburb so why is this attack in a synagogue yet another attack not surprising and then we can turn to the second the second story here today the anti-semitism blatant anti Jew hatred in the form of a cartoon in the international edition of the New York Times now am I saying that the killer in San Diego opened up his New York Times saw this image of a blind Donald Trump with a kippah yarmulke leading a Jew a dog in the form of Prime Minister Netanyahu wearing a star of david' leading him blindly down the road now I don't know and I highly doubt that this was carried out as a result of the cartoon but it is the general attitude it is the general willingness to ignore this type of imagery and hate for Jews if this were we'll talk about this in a second if there were this type of cartoon portraying any other religious figure or leader in any other case in any other case this would be condemned the this picture this cartoon would never make it to the New York Times if this was about African Americans or Hispanics or homosexual community or the Democrats or anything else or any other group this type of picture would never make it to the paper yet it appeared in the print edition it was later taken down from the online edition of the International Year Times and by the way the International Times published alongside alongside Haaretz here in Israel that should just give you a clue of exactly who these people are who printed this cartoon condemnation is coming in all over the place you can see the images online of this cartoon Public Security Minister Gilad aired on of Prime Minister Netanyahu's Likud Party according to Times of Israel slamming this anti-semitic character caricature published in the New York Times on Thursday called for those responsible for its publication to be fired again it's Netanyahu as a guide dog wearing a Star of David on his collar leading a blind President Trump who was wearing a yarmulke Akiba The Times acknowledged on Saturday the cartoon quote included anti-semitic tropes and was offensive and an error of judgment but it did not outright apologize for its publication very very weak response from the New York Times I know I just got something on Facebook somebody sending me information about a rally a demonstration against the New York Times to take place I believe today Monday in New York City and really condemnation is coming from all over the world in regard to this cartoon Steph Franz 'men of The Jerusalem Post had an excellent analysis about this cartoon he says I'm not going to go through the whole article that he wrote in Sunday's paper but I'm gonna use some of it here transmen says it used to be that we were told that Trump was fostering Trump anti-semitism as I referenced before and driving a new wave of anti-semitism in the US but the cartoon depicts him as a Jew well which is it is he fostering anti-semitism or is he now a closeted Jew being led by Israel depicted by a Jewish dog we used to say that images conjured admin control up memories of the 1930s anti-semitism this didn't conjure it up this showed us exactly what it looked like Fran's been saying that this is exactly the same as what it looked like in other images I've seen since this cartoon was published Jews leading Churchill also with anti-semitic tropes a France man continues no other country or minority group I said this is a few minutes ago was subjugated to such unrelenting and systematic hatred by mainstream newspapers no one would dare to put an Islamic leaders face on the dog with Islamic symbols leading the US president no one would do this no one would take that chance or be willing to do something like this yet the New York Times all the news that's fit to print the paper of record did just that Franz man continues the cartoon didn't end up in in the international linear edition of New York Times by mistake it was chosen it was put on a page by someone and was checked and rechecked he says I know I'm an op-ed editor when I used to run cartoons in my section no fewer than four people would see it before it went to print at the International edition of The Times it should have been more than four and they all thought it was fine what that tells me is that there is a culture of anti-semitism somewhere in the news room he then criticizes the reaction by the New York Times claiming it was just an error in judgment Franzen says that's not enough an Arab judgment would imply that it was a mistake Tropes would imply that to some people it is anti-semitic but that it's not clear as day in other words if you're saying it's just a judgment error instead of saying flat out this was anti-semitism then you are you are to be blamed you are part of the problem from not acknowledging what it truly is now Bret Stevens this is very interesting I just printed this out here on Monday which I believe will appear in today's New York Times it's interesting because Brett Stevens works for the paper he writes for the paper and yet he had this column in which he criticizes the paper he says the following and then this is in the New York Times as prejudices go anti-semitism can sometimes be hard to pin down but on Thursday the opinion pages of the New York Times international edition provided a textbook illustration of it he goes on to say the cartoon checks so many anti-semitic boxes that the only thing missing was dollar signs he also similar to the Franz Minh says that if it were any other group they the newspaper would be hyper alert to the sensitivities and wouldn't publish he says hyper hyper alerts and nearly every conceivable expression of prejudice from manip from all the other different ethnic groups he says this would never happen if this was a person of color or a Muslim or Democrat like Nancy Pelosi he believes that this would not have gone unnoticed by either the wire service that provides The Times of images or the editor even if he were working in haste and selected it the question answers itself he says and it raises a follow up how have even the most blatant expressions of anti-semitism become almost undetectable to editors who think it's part of their job to stand up to bigotry in other words when it comes to Jews editors are ignoring the anti-semitism any other group they would be hyper sensitive Jews know for this for choose this is acceptable we'll publish it we won't think twice and the reason paraphrasing is in his words the mainstream is mainstreaming of anti-zionism he says that in this day and age it is anti Zionism is all but indistinguishable for anti-semitism and practice and often in intent however progressives try to deny this people claim that anti zion.t and anti-zionism is legitimate but anti-semitism isn't yet there is no and I've said this many times it's one in the same and more and more people because of this cartoon and maybe that's why maybe that's the purpose of this cartoon is to teach us that lesson then anti-zionism is truly anti-semitism he concludes does Bret Stevens the publication of the cartoon isn't just an error in judgment the paper owes the Israeli Prime Minister an apology it owes itself some serious reflection as to how it came to publish that cartoon and how its publication came to many longtime readers as a shock but not as a surprise bottom line people were shocked but sadly unfortunately it was not surprising when I saw it I wasn't surprised I wasn't surprised I was I was mortified but I wasn't surprised and there's a difference there because I don't expect anything less from the New York Times with their record of anti-israel bias for so many years the way they put the horrors of the Holocaust on the back pages I expect this from the New York Times perhaps now somebody will wake up as a results perhaps now they'll view this as over the top and they will I know people are canceling their subscriptions so perhaps the New York Times will pay the price but very very interesting that Bret Stevens in his own newspaper was given the opportunity to rip his very own newspaper and I don't always agree with Bret Stevens I know that he believed that the pullout from Gaza was the right thing to do by prime minister Sherrod so I don't always agree with him but in this case I think he nails it on the head so that's that story turning here to Israel and this probably would have been the top story if it wasn't for the shooting there in California and the New York Times and this it just shows you how how important it is to be here in the Land of Israel and have an IDF have a Jewish security forces protecting you 24/7 the Shin Bet announced that Hamas planned a suicide car bombing around the Israeli election again there's terrorism all over the world and that is why I believe it is safer to be here in Israel where you have an idea of presence where you have security forces working 24/7 to protect you I'm not saying we don't have terror here we do have terror here but for the first time in 2,000 years we have our own state and the Jewish army committed to our protection 24/7 and that's why I think we should all put our eggs in the basket of the Jewish state and again I'm not ripping here on those who were gunned down in a Habad in San Diego that's not my goal my goal is to illustrate the importance in my opinion of the IDF our of our security forces here in the Land of Israel according to times of israel israeli military last month arrested a Hamas operatives suspected of planning a suicide car bombing to coincide with Israel's national elections the Shin Bet that's Israel security services said yesterday a 23 year old suspect was arrested in a in an Arab village news of the arrests was initially censored by the military the ban was removed ahead of his slated indictment later this week according to the interrogation this terrorist Abu dia was in touch with senior Hamas members in Gaza using the internet had been recruited for military activities and agreed to carry out missions and act as a suicide bomber again there was a bomb a bombing planned for the Millea the même area this is a miracle it did not happen that he was caught so first thing we have to thank God thank God for preventing what could have been a true true massacre here a tragedy a disaster thank God and thank our security forces so many attacks are thwarted and many of them we do not hear about sometimes we hear about them later on but for security obvious reasons for security reasons in order to catch perhaps the masterminds behind these attacks they cannot be publicized this case publicized several months later and thank God thank God there was not an Election Day bombing by Hamas but knowing that information knowing that Hamas is still trying to carry out attacks I don't understand the whole concept of a ceasefire with Hamas and Gaza it doesn't matter if they're in Gaza if they're Judea and Samaria Hamas and their tentacles are stretching across this country trying to carry out attacks trying to find different places to target and the leaders of Hamas should be punished wherever they are if they're in Gaza if they're roaming in in in the Middle East or in Europe there should the long arm of the the Israeli justice system in the form of our security forces should be targeting these people I think that should be a message that we send to Hamas president vice former vice president rather Joe Biden in this report here by Janus and now he's running for the White House entering a crowded field of now 20 Democratic contenders for the American presidency in 2020 and Janus here does an excellent job Jackson Richmond does an excellent job giving the lowdown on Biden's record when it comes to Israel and I'm not going to get into the whole thing I mean overall reading this article go to Janus I think his record is poor when it comes to Israel I'll just give a few highlights here I mean I think the biggest highlight was back in 1982 when Biden appearing in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee threatened to cut off aid to Israel Prime Minister Menachem Begin confronted the Senators over their criticism of his country's policies in regard to Lebanon and when Biden then threatened to cease US assistance to Israel Bagan said the following nobody quote nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country we paid for it we fought for it we died for it he continued we will stand by our principles we will defend him and when necessary we will die for them again with or without your aid Prime Minister Menachem Begin confronting Joe Biden in 2016 just a few more highlights a bomb went off injuring 21 people on a bus in Jerusalem then the Vice President Biden blamed Israeli policies for undermining the peace process so blaming the victim here in 2004 Biden expressed optimism about Mahmoud Abbas committing to achieve peace and security for Israel here we go just a one-word point here on AIPAC the Joe Biden favoring in defending the Iranian nuclear deal in front of AIPAC in 2016 in support of the deal perhaps just going along with President Obama but more than likely supporting the deal because it's something he believed in but it's an extensive I can't get into an all now boycott yet if the US can ban him why can't Israel get him out of here also this is a a front for terrorism is BDS they're one in the same for trying to destroy the State of Israel and this man who had ties to the Fatah party Fattah activists then went and then went into this christian village shooting up a storm throwing firebombs causing damage to property basically assaulting the local christians in this village then the christians there as a result being forced to play this Jasna which is a tax levied by islamic law non Muslim subjects residing in Muslim lands so there you have the state of affairs for Christians living under Muslim rule under the Palestinian Authority and it would be better for everyone choose Muslims Christians Arabs you name it if Israel would apply sovereignty to firstly the Jewish areas and then all the areas under Judean Samaria everybody benefit benefited and would benefit again things just got worse once the Palestinian Authority took over
