On the 19th of April 1944, the siege of Kohima was lifted. Corporal Roy Welland of the Royal Berkshire Regiment was one of the first relief troops to enter the Kohima perimeter and was greeted by one of the troops who helped to stop the Japanese advance into India during the Second World War.
