B-29 Bombers Under Attack by Soviet MiG-15s Part 2

No Sweat is the next target. The bomber is riddled with cannon shells despite defensive fire from Beach and the other gunners. Two engines are shot out and an engine fuel tank catches fire, but the pilot announces they will persist to the target. The bomber is now completely alone after the loss of the other three B-29s in the flight and heavy flak strikes the wounded aircraft. Beach remembers, "Like a bird with a broken wing, we limped in over the bridges." The bombardier releases the munitions and the aircraft begins to lose altitude. Despite the odds, No Sweat manages to crash land at a US fighter base an hour later without any loss to the crew.
