American Airlines Flight 11 on 9/11
128 views
On September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 departed from Boston Logan International with Los Angeles as its intended destination. Air Traffic Controllers and military personnel, using radar, noticed the aircraft deviating from its intention flightpath. The aircraft's transponder was turned off so they could only track the aircraft on radar with no other information. The aircraft disappeared from the radar as it flew over Manhattan in New York City. At 8:43 a.m., the aircraft once again
changes course on radar and is now
heading south-southwest towards Lower
Manhattan in New York City.
The 767 is rapidly descending at a rate
of over 3,000 ft per minute and picking
up speed, making it more difficult for
the NEADS operations floor to track
American 11.
Master Sergeant Joe McCain will later
recall, "The plane was fast and heading
with an unusual direction with no
transponder.
We watched that track until it faded
over New York City.
The time is 8:46 a.m. on September the
11th, 2001."
