Where has the [singing and music] base I make the shack? >> I bet you never thought about this incredibly remarkable thing. If you ask any connected Jewish child, teen, or adult why the base I make this was destroyed, why the temple in Jerusalem was raised to the ground, they're going to tell you, "Oh, the first base I make this, the first temple, cuz the Jewish people unfortunately violated three of their three cardinal sins, of a desert we have stone him, idol worship, immorality, murder." Second base I make this, second temple? They'll tell you because of sin of sin of baseless hatred, we couldn't get along with one another. Everyone will give you exactly the same answer. You know what's remarkable? Why won't anyone say because the Babylonians were stronger than the Jewish army? That the Romans just had a much more powerful armed force than the Jewish people, and therefore they destroyed them. It doesn't even enter our thought process. Cuz as Jewish people we know it has nothing to do with firepower, it has nothing to do with might. That's how the secular world looks at thing. Religious Jews, everything that happens in the world is a manifestation of our spiritual function and our spiritual ability. As we segue into the three weeks, the period in the year where we reflect on the fact that we don't have a base I make this, we don't have a temple nowadays, we could be shallow and just reflect on the history and why we were defeated. Or we could look at the source, which is how Jewish people really live in a deeper way. And if the second base I make this was destroyed because of sin of sin of baseless hatred, let's figure out a way to show unconditional love to our Jewish brothers and sisters. And if the first base I make this was destroyed because we didn't have the right connection to our sham, because of immorality, let's work on our connection to our sham. Let's up our lives in areas of Kadusha and holiness.
