What happens is our children become actually tools for our own self-esteem. And it's a disaster. I'm basically waiting for my sons and daughters to give me nakas. I can have self-esteem. Like naka machines. And when you're waiting for your children to give you self-esteem, you're not there for your children. They're there for you. And it's not supposed to be that way. Parents are supposed to be there for their children. Children are not supposed to be there for their parents. I mean, we hope our children will be there for us in in in a unique way and their own way. And is a big mitzvah. But as I'm raising my children, I'm not looking for my children to be able to say, "Rabbi, why were you such a good guy?" Right? Don't go to your children for compliments. And my child being a wonderful bker or a wonderful held is not the basis of your self-esteem.
