There’s a deep loneliness in being misunderstood because it means accepting that my perspective may never fully reach another person. My reality is mine alone, and I cannot completely share it with anyone else. On a personal note, I realized long ago that I don’t need people to agree with me or share my quirky way of seeing things. But it is comforting when someone at least understands what it is that I am seeing. That, however, is rare. And I cannot expect to find it often. Ultimately, the solution for me has been to accept that my reality exists between G-d and me. Maybe you're thinking, "But, Shais, you have a huge social media platform where people resonate with what you say all day long." Yes, baruch Hashem, I do. And that is a blessing. But it could all disappear in a moment, and that's okay. The real value of my social media presence is not that it makes me feel less lonely. Its real value is that it allows me to help someone else feel a little less lonely for a minute or two. I'm going to be personal for a moment and tell you for me that's one of my greatest pains is being misunderstood. And I'll tell you why. I've had this experience multiple times where people will say to me, "Come on, Chase. Get over it. Not everybody has to agree with you." And it's so unnerving because I don't believe that everyone has to agree with me. It's not even on my list of things I'm trying to accomplish to try to get everyone to agree with me. I don't need you to agree with me. I don't need you to agree with my opinion. I just want you to understand what my opinion is. In fact, reject my opinion. But when you reject it, know what it is that you're rejecting. Understand what I'm saying. Tell me I'm wrong, but at least understand why I'm wrong. And I realized why that hurt me so much when people say, "Come on, Chase. Not everyone has to agree with you." is because that itself was showing that they didn't understand what I want cuz I don't want people to agree with me. To the contrary, I'm used to being the only guy who has a certain opinion. I got used to that years ago that I will have a quirky perspective on things and no one else will see it the same way that I do, and that's fine. I don't need you to see it the same way I see it, but I would like that you should understand what it is that I'm seeing, even if you don't agree that that's what it is, even though you see it differently. And I had to come to terms with this. This has taken a lot of work, a lot of surrender, a lot of letting go. And that is that not only will people not agree with me, which I accepted long ago, but they won't necessarily even understand what it is that I'm seeing. And I came to understand why that is so hurtful is because it is the deepest form of loneliness. It literally means I'm inhabiting a reality alone. I'm the only one here in my reality. No one else is in my reality. I can't even phone home from my reality and tell you what it is that I'm seeing because somehow the messages get garbled and you think I'm saying something different than what I'm saying. I don't know how many of you have had this experience yourselves, but here's what I'll tell you. At a certain some in life you accept the fact that there's no one else in your reality and that everything you experience ultimately is between nobody but you and God.
