Kevin, I just welcome to the Sumi
Krauss, the head lifeguard in Kasna camp
for over how many years?
>> Can I know the 31st summer?
>> 31st summer. The famous story from Rabbi
Habber. Rabbi Joey Habber said a story
about girls in tag in farway who came in
with a mask to the graduation not to
embarrass a girl who unfortunately has
cancer and has to wear a mask to be able
to attend the graduation. Sumi Kra,
you post that story in your status. I
have the same exact story that happened
to me in Kasna camp 25 years ago.
Somebody go with your story.
>> So I think this is really a step further
because I work camp as most of you may
know it's a camp and uh bathing caps are
not the norm
there.
>> Not in the boys camp.
Many many years ago, there was a boy
that unfortunately had his hair had
fallen out before the summer.
That particular boy, Bashem, it wasn't
cancer, but that particular boy um lost
his hair and he was extremely
embarrassed and self-conscious [music]
about losing his hair and he didn't uh
he didn't want to go swimming at all.
[music]
But this boy happened to have been a
deep water swimmer. So uh the hul
[music] of the camp together with the
parents and myself we came up with the
idea [music] that everyone should be
wearing a uh a bathing cap. Any all the
kids that [music] that swim in the deep
water should be wearing a beta cap. So
this boy shouldn't feel uh left out and
and feel different because you didn't
want anyone to see [music] that is here
was out.
>> So So what you told the boys that from
now on they have to wear bathing cap.
>> So this was done before the season. this
this
>> so one minute. So because of this boy
you put out in the [singing] letter and
the rules of camp that [music] all boys
swimming at the border.
>> So this not necessarily a letter. This
was the first day when I told the kids
and uh some of some of you that may
[music] be watching this now this was
not a department of health rule but this
was
the kids that the department of health
made a new rule.
>> So you told them the department of
health made a rule that anybody
>> that swims in the deep water has to wear
a bathing cap. So no one really
challenged it. So all the cases kids
that would never wear a bathing cap in
their lives the whole entire summer all
of them wore bathing caps and that
particular kid [music] never felt left
out as a result he had an enjoyable
summer and desire that that this is
something that that even more so that a
moid would bend down backwards in order
to accommodate a child that that would
feel left left out in the whole summer.
He had a had an inspiring and enjoyable
summer as a result of that not feeling
different than anyone else
>> until today. That boy doesn't know
>> or he knew then.
>> I never really asked. His father
definitely knew
>> but he didn't know that anybody's
wearing bathing cap because he just
said, "Wow, if anybody's wearing a
bathing cap, that means I could go
swimming that nobody will realize I have
here."
>> But nobody noticed that the boy woman
and during the day he had a wig. I
assume
>> during the day he had a wig. So no one
>> nobody knew that he was missing his
hair. [music] So he wore a wig. He
couldn't go swimming because he didn't
want anybody to see him take off his
wig.
>> Correct.
>> But since everybody wore a bathing cap,
he felt great going swimming and nobody
ever daddy. [music]
That is unreal.
>> Wow. So Mid went bend himself over
backwards, put out a rule, a fake rule.
The department of health said you must
wear a bathing cap and all the kids in
camp who went to go to swimming had to
wear a bathing cap.
>> Said this one boy shouldn't be
embarrassed when he goes swimming.
>> This is [music] that
>> what a MKY story going to the nine days
tishov. This is a real story about one
person's life could be [music] changed
by somebody thinking and using out of
creativity in the right way. So me
discussing them being the ghoulish
>> and just to go have one message everyone
all of you can make such a difference in
other people's lives. Any little [music]
thing that you can do you can mamish
make someone persevere and become an
amazing person. So [music] do youras
guys and you still have life right 31
years later. Hey, keep it up. Another
[music] 31 years for you to go.
