What happened to Duvie Shapiro? Duvie Shapiro released his first single just a few years ago in early 2019. After becoming one of the biggest hits of the year, Lech Al Zeh would go on to become so popular - it would gain over 1.7 million views on Youtube alone! That’s unheard of for a first-time singer. Duvie wasn’t done though. Just a year later, on the last day of 2019, he was back with another hit. This time it was “This Is My Home” & this song did practically just as well getting close to a million views on Youtube! A year later Duvie was back with not 1, but 2 more singles. This time the songs were slow songs, & they’d be the last we’d hear from him ever since. What happened to Duvie Shapiro? Why did he release 2 insane hit singles followed by another 2 singles, & then fall off the map entirely? Is he working on a new single or maybe even a debut album…? Or is he done with releasing music? Today we dive deep into the mysterious disappearance of Duvie Shapiro. Duvie Shapiro is the older brother of the famous Mordechai Shapiro & he started out his singing career way back in the day. Duvie Shapiro went to the Miami Boys Choir together with brother Mordy & was a star soloist at the time. Originally Yerachmiel Begun - the leader of the Miami Boys Choir only wanted to take Duvie Shapiro into the choir as Mordy was super young, but Duvie said it’s either both of them or none of them. Yerachmiel Begun made the decision to allow both Duvie & Mordy Shapiro into the Miami Boys Choir & it’s safe to say it was the right decision. In Miami Boys Choir Duvie was a star soloist going on tour all around all the while keeping an eye on his younger brother Mordy. Eventually Duvie grew out of the choir & his brother Mordy followed in his footsteps becoming a star soloist as well & even eventually singing Rachem at a concert together with Yaakov Shwekey! Duvie Shapiro eventually got married & moved to Eretz Yisrael where he still lives today! Mordechai Shapiro launched his singing career back in 2016 & after Schar Mitzvah blew up he came right back with another album. In late 2017 Machar was released & after all the insane success Mordy saw with that album he went on to release his popular singles B’yachad & Friends. Duvie Shapiro was invited to be in the friends music video & it's safe to say he had a great time! Shortly after that Duvie thought - if his brother Mordy was seeing such success in his singing career maybe he should give it a try as well. Duvie called up Ari Goldwag who had recently composed one of the biggest songs in Jewish Music - Ivri Anochi for Benny Friedman. Ari Goldwag composed a beautiful song for Duvie & Duvie recorded it & worked on filming an incredible music video. On March 27th 2019 Duvie Shapiro finally dropped his debut single! Lech Al Zeh met with instant popularity & saw immediate success. The song was being played everywhere & the music video eventually reached 1.7 Million views on youtube & on Spotify the song clocks in with 1.2 million plays to date! Mordechai Shapiro came out with his 3rd album shortly after Lech Al Zeh was released along with a music video for Hakol Mishamayim. Mordy was planning on releasing a music video for one of the albums most popular songs Hachalom a few months after the album's release but that project was mysteriously canceled. During this time Duvie Shapiro decided to call Ari Goldwag back to compose another great masterpiece & Duvie recorded his 2nd song. After seeing the success of his first music video Duvie wanted to make another music video for his brand new song. Rumor has it Mordy gave Duvie everything he’d originally prepared for his Hachalom video to Duvie since the songs were very similar themes. Mordy instead released a music video to his song One In A Million & Duvie went on to release his 2nd single. On December 31st 2019, a few weeks after releasing a wedding clip - Duvie Shapiro released his 2nd single & music video This Is My Home. The song was just as popular as Duvie’s previous single & to date the song has just about 1.2 million plays on Spotify as well. On Youtube the music video didn’t do as well as Lech Al Zeh, but it was still extremely popular standing at just about 850,000 views today! About a year later just before the end of 2020 Duvie released another song with a very different style than his previous 2. This time the song was composed by Yitzy Waldner & came along with a lyric video instead of a music video. The song was a slower paced song & didn’t perform nearly as well getting just short of 300,000 plays on spotify & 150,000 views on Youtube. A lot of Duvie Shapiro’s fans didn’t want to wait another year for a single from Duvie & were hoping to maybe even see an album from him. Duvie surprised everyone with another single released just 3 months later. Ima Sheli was a slow song that came along with a music video that has 165,000 views to date on Youtube & just 250,000 plays on Spotify to date. When you look at just raw numbers it seems each song from Duvie has been less & less popular, but that’s really not the case. Releasing music costs a ton of money. A well produced song from a good composer & a beautiful music video could sometimes cost $25,000 or more. It’s not so easy to continue to release music & the way singers are able to justify spending so much money on songs is by getting hired out for concerts & weddings. If Duvie Shapiro saw his most recent 2 singles didn’t really perform so well then he may have thought it’s not worth the return on investment to put out any more music. Looking a little deeper though you can see that his first 2 songs were fast songs & were both very unique & composed by Ari Goldwag. If Duvie released more songs similar to his first 2 they’d very likely be extremely popular. Duvie Shapiro may be working on new singles or even an album today & we’d never know. Duvie has a history of just dropping a new song randomly with no warning & we hope he’s getting ready to do that soon with a debut album. If not though maybe Duvie Shapiro will decide to work on another single soon. If you’re watching this video Duvie - please come out with more music! It is kinda sad that Duvie hasn’t released music recently & it's very likely because he doesn’t see the return on investment. Hopefully Duvie will realize that the world is waiting for new music from him & maybe he’ll come out with another fast song & awesome music video. Until then we’ll just have to keep listening to his old songs or some of his brothers songs.
