The Moment I Came Down to This World For | Rabbi Simcha Bunim Cohen

Everybody knows and remembers this רבן של כל בני הגולה, הגר”מ פיינשטיין R’ Moshe Feinstein z”l. I remember once, when I came to visit the Rebbetzin after the Rosh Yeshiva wasn't living anymore, she told me as follows, Rabbi Cohen, such a Gaon like my husband it's very difficult to be, but a mensch with מידות טובות everybody could learn from my husband how to be such a gentleman. I want to say the following story with R’ Tuvia Goldstein, a neighbor, one of the פוסקי הדור in his own right, said over the following story. He once came up to R’ Moshe Feinstein's apartment. He lived on the first floor, R’ Moshe lived on the second floor. And there he sees a Rav leaving the apartment. This Rav had been מבזה R’ Moshe Feinstein publicly about a certain Teshuva that he wrote. So R’ Tuvia comes into R’ Moshe Feinstein all excited, and he tells the Rosh Yeshiva, Look how great Klal Yisroel is. This man came to ask the Rosh Yeshiva for מחילה. R’ Moshe didn't answer him. R’ Tuvia asked him again, Did he come ask you for forgiveness? R’ Moshe doesn't answer. R’ Tuvia asked him a third time, R’ Moshe, did he come to ask you for מחילה? So R’ Moshe says: No. So what did he come for? He came for a מכתב המלצה. He lost his job as a Rav and he wants a letter of recommendation. So R’ Tuvia asked R’ Moshe, And you gave it to him? So R’ Moshe says: Yeah. So R’ Tuvia says: I'm running after him. He has to ask you מחילה. So R’ Moshe takes R’ Tuvia by his two hands and tells him as follows, R’ Tuvia, the Gemara says, Sometimes a person is קונה, he acquires the World of Truth בשעה אחת. Maybe this is the time that I came down to This World for, to be מתגבר on my Middos and give the letter to somebody who insulted me. R’ Tuvia Goldstein was amazed by this story. We're talking about R’ Moshe Feinstein, פוסק הדור, רבן של כל בני הגולה was מחזק thousands of people and this is what he maybe came down to the world for? This is such a Chizzuk for all of us. We all have Nisyonos in our life. We all have ראיות, sights which we have a Nisayon to look at. Could be this is the time what you came down to This World for, to acquire the Next World. Like R’ Moshe said, יש שקונה עולמו בשעה אחת. Let the Aibisther have Rachmanus on us, take us out of Galus, and we'll have the בית המקדש השלישי to be there for Tisha B’Av.
