Lower East Side A Glimpse into Jewish History

If you go to the Lower East Side, even [music] today, >> [snorts] >> there's basically one Yeshiva, I'm talking about boys, one Yeshiva shifted first is like MTJ, that's struggling to survive. >> [snorts] >> And you take a tour of the East Side, you go down to the Lower East Side and you take a tour. >> [music] >> So, there's the one Yeshiva and they see remnants of shuls. There's uh you know, these shuls that um existed from the early 1900s. Many, many shuls. But, how many Yeshivas were there? They didn't really build too many Yeshivas um in those days. And that [music] was probably uh uh the you know, Jews came and they [music] yeah, we davening in the in the heim, we davening in the heim in the in Europe or whatever they came from. And so, we're going to daven here, but we want to become more more >> [music] >> more financially independent, uh American colleges, and so forth. So, uh they built shuls, but not so many [music] Yeshivas.
