Lakewood Police Chief Rob Lawson on Boston Bombings

hello I'm Chief Rob Lawson of the Lakewood Police Department and I just want to say a few words regarding the bombing yesterday at the Boston Marathon the Lakewood Police Department is on a higher state of Readiness and we have additional officers who will be checking our critical infrastructure our schools our shoes and other vulnerable places in Lakewood there is absolutely no reason for anybody to deviate from their normal routine go about your usual business there is no intelligence or information that an attack in Lakewood or anywhere else is imminent at this at this time basically just be observant see what's going on around you in your environment and if you see something unusual or suspicious please call the police department immediately I do have some suggestions and some tips from the office of Homeland Security and these are regarding observing any kind of suspicious activities if you see any unusual or prolonged interest or attempts to gain sensitive information about security measures Personnel points of Entry peak hours of operation or access to alarms or locks this is an example of something that you should notify the police department on uh If You observe security drills for facilities that are being observed or if there's multiple false alarms at a facility this may be an organization testing the security and the response times if you see anybody taking photographs or video recording sketching or note taking this is consistent with pre-operational surveillance if somebody is interested in speaking with building Personnel about the structure of the building or about the facility If You observe somebody asking questions about security or about barriers cameras intrusion detection devices um questions about a facility's heating or cooling or ventilation systems um also suspicions should be aroused if somebody is inquiring about purchasing uh precursors for making explosive devices such as hydrogen peroxide acetone gasoline or even fertilizer large quantities uh suspicious activities in storage facilities that could be used to construct an explosive device and finally attempts for unauthorized access to roof types rooftops or potentially um sensitive areas our thoughts and our prayers go out to the victims and the families of those affected by the explosions in Boston yesterday please be vigilant and observant and Report any suspicious activity that you see to the police department immediately thank you
