in my mind and so I'm happy that with this question we are going to get closure and everything is going to be taken care of and all the other questions that I was going to ask were destroyed together with Hillary's emails I don't know if I'll ever get those back okay a regular un worker and they're many uh people on the bureaucratic level on all kinds of levels he comes home after a long day of work his wife says so what' you do today and he says oh uh we passed 20 resolutions condemning Israel and three resolutions condemning every single other country in the world how does a an official like that look at himself and look at the organization that he works for do they feel satisfied do they feel like they're doing the world's work do they feel the ends justify the means or deep town do they feel like what so uh they they feel like they're doing important work I remember one of my early days in the security Council being at a meeting where something had happened somewhere in the world I can't remember what it is or what what was or what the security Council was supposed to do about it was clear we weren't going to do much of anything other than issue a statement uh but I heard one of the ambassadors as I and I basically said I didn't see the urgency of it I wanted more information and so on and so forth said but the world is waiting for the security Council to pronounce itself and I thought what part of the world is that but that's what they think so the answer is yes they think they are uh they they are doing things now there are other motives too and I can't tell you the number of people that I met and it's not just in the year and a half I was up here as a bastard but in the other incarnations where I've dealt with the UN and I can't tell you the number of foreign diplomats who after you know 15 or 20 minutes of giving a speech denouncing the United States for whatever our latest uh uh mistakes were would come up to me and say you know I've been offered a job at the Ford Foundation can you help me get a Visa that children can be born in America don't kid yourself being in New York has a lot of benefits if you're a foreign Diplomat and it's a wave to them for them to rise within their profession and uh you know it's you can do a lot of rationalization for that that's why the only way to break through uh to get them to address the kind of question you're asking say are we really producing uh something that justifies this enormous expenditure of money is to threaten to pull the money back uh and then we'll find out exactly what is being produced concretely let me let me just say one one more word I I um I really enjoyed this I'm very grateful to Ridge for uh for bringing me here for for taking me over to the Shiva it's uh really it's left a very profound impression and it's great to be here with all of you and uh I wish you all the best and uh enjoyed myself and I hope I wasn't too gloy for you thank [Applause] you all right f
