ladies and Gentlemen please welcome your Governor Chris Christie [Applause] morning everybody please be seated thank you good to be back here I'm thrilled to be here I to thank legislators who here mayor um members the administration lots of folks here and and mostly I want to thank all of you for for sending the invitation and um I'm happy to come um what I'd like to do is spend most of the time having you ask me questions so I'll just say a few things off the top that I think are important um and then I'll just go to your questions and the things that you think are important if today's the day you decide you want to take the governor of New Jersey out for a walk you know what I mean you want to show off for your friends here then for those purposes we are all from New Jersey and what that means is you give it you're getting it back let's go [Applause] raise your hand who wants the first question yes sir even for the crack about where a bu I had her daughter and right so I grab her shoulders and I whisper to her I sayy mom who look better in that first apartment in Summit huh and she turned around and looked at me and she said sure is Chris it took you long enough [Music] thank you for having me for back up a little bit please good to see you [Music] spech thank you for today but more that people people around this table with me four years and and I appreciate that very very much and have always been grateful for the support that you all gave to me four years ago and the support that you given me every day since then we have so many of the issues in common with each other got some successes had some shortfalls but we're going to continue to push on the things where we fall short and we're going to continue to exploit the advantages that we have um I want I want all of you to know not only how much I appreciate your support but how much I need it you know um whole numbers are great right now but it's all temporary in politics you all know that um you know if we lose our focus on what we need to do you know we want them making this a close race I don't want this to be a close race um I don't think it should be I don't think it needs to be and folks here in l can play an enormous role in helping to make sure that we keep this a a very comfortable lead um and we do the things that we need to do to make an election a statement the more we make the election a statement the more we have the opportunity to be able to even push harder for the initiatives that have fallen short so far um and we have more political pressure to be able to bring to bear on some of the more C folks Trent do not want to get behind some of the initiatives that we all care about so much so um I don't want anybody and I don't think it to be in this room would be but I don't want anybody to be complacent I'm not going to be I'm be working hard um and that's why I think you know having all your support having it so openly and so early is going to be an extraordinary help in us we unifying Lakewood um in a way that will make the margins we get out of here and ultimately the margins that we get out of H County um you know even better than they were the last time and so I thank you for your friendship we are concert with each other on the issues I'm going to sit here and tell you things that you already know um well listen you understand that that and and you probably saw last week we get into a bit of a dust up over the opportunity scholarship act the fact is that it's the single most important initiative that I not yet achieved and I'm going to continue to push and fight for it and and I know um I absolutely know that if we continue to work as hard as we can we can Empower these parents and these children to have the opportunity to go and be educated where they want to be educated where parents regardless of their economic status um have the choice to be able to send their child um as I've said many times you know Mary Pat and I send all four of the bral school and we send them the bral scho because we believe having religious education as a part of every day is a very important part of their overall education so Mary Pat are lucky we have the money to be able to do it um I don't think that's what should determine I think what should determin it is the will of the parents they should have the opportunity to send their children wherever they want to go to school they're taxpayers they're paying significant taxes in the state for education and they should have the opportunity to send their children wherever they believe their child will be best educated and will'll reinforce the values that they're attempting to teach at home and I just think that's a fundamental principle and we're just going to continue to fight for it and there's nothing more important and no matter what kind of push back they they they do on me I'm going to continue to fight for it we saw a bunch of the push back um a bunch of the push back we saw last night um in the last week or so and they'll continue to push back but I don't really care we're going to work together govern please go into the main room govern follow please everybody EX [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] additionally priv honor and humble that the government chose to leave and greet very very first time that we met one of my colleagues and different School leaders had met Governor B his office immediately detected that here is a unique individual that has the feelings of morals that we stands for has the feelings for Education that we stand for D the person we have here with us today it comes time to go this November there's no doubt who will be voting for the same person we voted four years ago and that is Governor [Applause] [Music] Chris on behalf of my colleagues on the bot and the many members of our community here and not here today it gives me great pleasure to announce the v's unanimous unequivocal and heartfelt endorsement of your reelection as governor of the great state of New [Applause] Jersey it comes with a sense of confidence that our endorsement truly reflects the pulse and sentiment of the entire Orthodox community of [Applause] and of course it's such a great honor to be joined in Lakewood by our governor as he accepts the endorsement of very United Lakewood Deputy Mayor Steven Langer just reminded me that the last time around the governor got 10,000 votes out of Lakewood and he won by a 2 to1 margin well in trying to help councelor George Gilmore we promised to bring 100,000 votes out of Ocean County we hope that this year the governor will get at least 20,000 out of all here it is now my distinct honor as mayor of Le lwood to endorse and to welcome to the microphone the governor of the state of New Jersey The Honorable Chris Christie [Applause] thank you thank you everybody in this community being here today thank you specially to our children and young adults who are here today I appreciate so much you being here your enthusiasm your willingness to be involved and I hope that you can stay just as enthusiastic between now and November 5th because we have a big job to do and let's do it together thank Rabbi and members of the community here in Lakewood who care so much about so many of the issues that I care about too [Applause] fact is that I know here in L there's nothing more important nothing more important for the families who live here the families who Moved than the education of your children and we need to make sure that as we move forward the education of the Parents Choice regardless of their economic circumstances is what governs how our children will be educated it should not be only those with substantial means who decide what's best for their children education all of the citizens of our state should be able to make that judgment [Applause] but as you know as you know nothing worth accomplishing in life happens easily nothing truly worthwhile comes to us without extraordinary effort and there will be those who will attempt to and have stood in our way in trying to bring the opportunity scholarship acting to law I can say this that I will continue to fight every day that you give me the honor and privilege of being your Governor to make sure that something that makes as much sense as the opportunity scholarship Act is not stopped by the special interests because the only special interest that I care about are the kids that are sitting right out here in this audience and all the children [Applause] we've accomplished a great deal together and there are so many people in this community who stood with me four years ago before there was any bandwaggon before there was anyone to yell four more years before there was anyone to do all those things the folks in this community stood with me and gave me the enormous wind in Lakewood 4 years ago a wind that helped Propel me to the wind that we had across the entire [Applause] State and I know that that didn't happen by accident I know that happened because of the extraordinary effort that all of you put in in the final weeks and days of that campaign when you so many of you in this community made the decision that we need to change in Direction in New Jersey and you honored Me by giving me the chance to change that direction now now as we've made the progress we've made over the last 3 years we have to have the courage and the enthusiasm to stay the course to continue to stand up for the things we believe in continue to work hard together to send a very strong and clear message throughout the state of New Jersey that the direction that we've moved in in the last 3 years is the direction that is best for the families of New Jersey and that we are not going to let anyone stand in our way over the next 7 months to achieving that and so I come here today not only to really gratefully accept the endorsement of the VOD but also to say thank you for all the support that you've given to me already things we've been able to accomplish we would not have been able to accomplish so far in the last 3 years without the support that I felt from all of you every [Applause] day father a great challenge to head to rebuild our state after Sandy to make sure that our educational system gets better and fairer for every child and family who wants to learn to make sure that our economy gets stronger and more vibrant that everyone who wants to work has the opportunity to work at a good paying job that will help them to support their families for food on the table keep a roof over their heads we have all that work still to do but think about where we've come from we came from a place in 2009 where 119,000 jobs were lost in New Jersey in one year we came from a place where taxes has been increased our families 115 times the 8 years before I became Governor we we came from a place where spending continued to increase debt continued to increase and the size of government continued to increase taking more more money out of the pockets and off the tables of the families of our state and now today in New Jersey setting an example for the rest of the country setting an example for [Applause] as we said earlier we're setting an example across the country we're saying enough increasing taxes we need to be more money in the pockets of set example that telling the truth confronting the difficult issues dealing with people in a straight and honest way will always lead to a better state and a better condition for our people our people are more than prepared to hear the truth our leaders just have to have the courage to tell them the [Music] truth so in conclusion all I can say is this four years has made a huge difference and being here with all of you today in March of 2013 to look at out as the mayor said at a unified Lakewood where people have come together not just behind a person but behind a set of ideals and principles that we all share and we all agree with is what our democracy is supposed to be all about it's supposed to be all of us standing up and speaking out for the things that we believe in and working for those leaders Who We Believe have the best chance to move our community our state our country in that direction and so I couldn't do it without you I didn't want to the mayor rabbis and the great school children of Lakewood and your families who are here and those of you who have families not here but I know who are here in spirit let me tell you you are not going to have anyone who will send the governor's chair who will welcome your health more who will welcome your input more who will welcome your ideas more and who will fight for you harder than I will if you give me the chance to [Applause] hold on stop here for a second hold on if you sit down I'll come in and say Hello thank you guys guys supervision TR [Music]
